vaughanmc

Cheers mate :)

It will all finally pay off in May/June time when I'm driving! Can't wait

vaughanmc
05-01-09, 07:39 PM
Got some more 'teething' problems with the Nova lol

1. Exhaust centre section heat-shield is hanging off/on (whatever you'd prefer lol) So that will be ripped off I think
2. Needs a drivers headlight as that one I have just now is feckered - So if someone has a Mk2 drivers headlight they'd like to donate me it would be much appreciated
3. The discs and pads have been renewed but when we've had it out we noticed the pads aren't clearing all the disc and only 1/2 is shiney and 1/2 is kinda rusty... Need to look more into that one
4. The centre section where it joins the Magnex needs a wee weld but that should be sorted all in good time
5. Finally, I think lol It needs a new induction pipe/hose to go from the air-filter to the SPI intake thing. A run to the scrappy soon I think
6. Oh aye! I also need to get 2 tyres for my 2 front GSi 3 spokes

I think that's about it anyway...

Vaughan! :)

05-01-09, 07:57 PM
nothing to worry about mate..

yeah get that shield ripped to ****, none of my novas have had them..

i have a mk2 headlight you can have, you have seen my garage..must have about 50 headlights on that top shelf..lol

also got a welder and i can weld pretty well if you are needing anything welded..

also i might have that pipe you are talking about..remember you looked at it and put it on my racks and said "keep that just now"....

vaughanmc
05-01-09, 07:59 PM
Aye lad if you have a spare Mk2 headlight in good condition let me know and that induction pipe thing I could be doing with that as well

Good job I said 'keep it just now...'

Knew it would come in handy lol :D

Adam
05-01-09, 08:00 PM
Remove the calipers, clean and copper grease the slider bolts

greg1.4
05-01-09, 08:01 PM
if the stuff is there, you are more than welcome to it..

will hunt out a good mk2 headlight, take it you will still be able to use your bulbs ect??

vaughanmc
05-01-09, 08:01 PM
I'll get my dad to have a look at it or get it down to my mate's garage and fire it up on the ramp

Can't be anything serious - Hopefully your fix works Adam :)

vaughanmc
05-01-09, 08:02 PM

Any update's vaughan?, its been over 2 weeks lol

vaughanmc
22-01-09, 09:35 PM
Hmm nope lol

Hopefully get a speedo cable from Ernie soon, have my exhaust heat-shield taken off or put back into place, centre section welded soon before the MOT and a new drivers headlight fitted

Not been the weather to do anything to it really lol

23-01-09, 07:02 AM
if im not mistaken is your car not forsale on pistonheads vaughan:wtf:

vaughanmc
23-01-09, 07:36 AM
Well, me and a mate were bored one night and we put both of ours up on PH to see what kind of offers we would get (My mate's car is the Silver Nova with Softstars fitted)

Just testing the water with that one, it's not 100% up forsale - Just gauging interest and I thought it would be better/easier to do it on there than have it on here

vaughanmc
15-02-09, 07:05 PM
A wee bit of a (xXx_Nova_xXx - Dave) style update here lol

Gave the car a good clean and polish the other week there so it's ready for Knockhill on the 22nd, probably give it a wee wash the morning of the meet before we set off

But here's how it cleans up:

vaughanmc
15-02-09, 07:07 PM
It's on Pistonheads aye

Not really had the right offer or swap for it so it's staying for now

Jay
15-02-09, 07:07 PM
Looking good vaughan, that would be perfect with a unpainted gsi bumper with red pin stripe.

Rich
15-02-09, 07:08 PM
Yeah its not a good time to try selling really, cars looking nice and shiny!

vaughanmc
15-02-09, 07:09 PM
Could be tempted but I like the look of the 'poverty' front end :)

Still, when you look at it from the front it doesn't appear to look like an SRi which is strange lol

vaughanmc
15-02-09, 07:09 PM
Yeah its not a good time to try selling really, cars looking nice and shiny!

I know...

Cheers mate :) Needs a good coat of Wax on it now but it's not been the weather

quoted off msn :)

vaughanmc
15-02-09, 10:32 PM
lol It's true

Once I'm driving it, my thoughts might change but I'd love another car to muck about with

An Opel Kadett or an old Mk1 Fiesta

vaughanmc
27-02-09, 05:46 PM
Opinions on the red boot grab handle ?

Personally I quite like it:

Looks much better mate, as said spray the lock though. Id take the griffin sticker off aswell, will give it a very clean look.

vaughanmc
28-02-09, 07:13 PM
Would look mega bare without the old Griffin I think

Boot lock surround will be painted once the MOT is by ;)

I quite like the look of the older style Griffin on the boot

Always worked well I thought on a Mk1 or Mk2 Nova

Stevo16V
28-02-09, 10:15 PM
Remove the griffin badge i think and get the lock painted :thumb:

Must admit im a fan of the anthracite-grey look tho, nice smart nova tho ;)

Weekend's update/s:

MOT was on Sat. and it failed on the Emissions. Going to put some petrol treatment in the tank and we fitted a new Temp. Sensor to the engine

Also, swapped back springs with my mate from his silver Nova and it now looks a lot lot better lowered that wee touch more

Then for Cle, some better pics of the boot grab-handle :)

Sticker doesnt look right on a mk2.

The square griffin sticker came on the early GSi's so it does fit in with the mark 2.:thumb:

Nova looking well, hope to see it over here during the summer!

vaughanmc
01-03-09, 03:23 PM
Tell me about it mate - It just ties the top half of the back of the car all in together I thought

Was only a wee trial and/or error and its worked out pretty well I'd say

Looks much more impressive lowered that bit more too but can't really take it out anywhere due to having no MOT on the car :(

vaughanmc

Looks very nice matey, unpainted gsi front bumper with your red pin stripe will look good, IMO. I really like the look of your car now, all the little bits on it look good, i personally like the boot grab handle it looks miles better than a standard faded grey.

Jay.

vaughanmc
01-03-09, 05:32 PM
I'll see about a GSi bumper later on in the year ;)

Emissions fail might be down to the cat mate. Especially if the car doesnt get driven much.

Do you have the emissions readings to hand?

AlexW
02-03-09, 06:45 PM
On behalf of vaughan he said on MSN to me that it wasnt that far out (i thought the cat myself)

vaughanmc
02-03-09, 06:53 PM
The reading should be about 1.030 and they were sitting at 1.037 or something crazy - Hopefully be sorted out for next Saturday though

Dougie - I'll let you know mate, not bothering me too much as it is, top work yet again though :thumb:

Adam
02-03-09, 06:53 PM
Aye, but what was it out on?
HC/Lambda/Co?

Edit-Right, so the lambda reading was out, maybe a bad sensor as the ecu should adjust the fuel ratio to get the lambda to 1 (14.7afr)

vaughanmc
02-03-09, 06:55 PM
Not sure mate I'll have a look at the sheet just now and reply back with the info

The MOT tester (who basically rebuilt the car) said it would be the Temp. Sensor which has now been replaced and it needed some good petrol treatment :)

dougie_boi
02-03-09, 08:51 PM
your welcome mate
check the air filter in the airpan that you put on if its dirty it will run a bit rich and could knock the emisions out mate

vaughanmc
03-03-09, 07:37 AM
Will do fella, I'll have a wee squint on Friday before the re-test :)

vaughanmc
07-03-09, 06:03 PM

vaughanmc
14-04-09, 09:43 PM
Not been much happening on the TCS front lately...

It's been getting driven a lot due to my cousin having my Mum's Corsa for a wee while

Just been keeping the car clean and tidy for any time it ventures out

One thing that was annoying me was that round about the number plate had faded badly due to me not polishing it enough so earlier tonight I took the plate off and cracked out the T-Cut...then brought out the AG SRP and then gave it a run over with some Interflon Wax:
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g191/vaughanmc/My%20Nova/BootDone.jpg
Roll on the L plates and also PVS :D :D :D

Jay
15-04-09, 01:40 AM
Would look good on some mint Cesaros in vauxhall star silver with 195 45's :)

vaughanmc
15-04-09, 10:48 AM
It looks good on those Astra Mk3 GSi alloys as well ;)

vaughanmc
21-05-09, 12:42 PM
Some new pics with the 195/45/15's on and the Irmscher Twinspoke alloys

I'll be fitting a new red bumper stripe as I ripped that one off with the pressure washer lol

It needs a good polish and wax as well before PVS

But heres some quick pictures:

I want to keep it looking SRi'ish

Graeme
15-07-09, 10:01 PM
Good to talk to you at Billing mate (about speedlines), love the car I think your right to stick with the spoiler and bumper, but a set of window surrounds would look good imo

vaughanmc
15-07-09, 10:06 PM
I had a wee look round your car again mate, spotted the 5th Speedline (jammy git) lol I also like your back lights as well :thumb:

I quite like the spoiler as I think the wheels make it look more 'fitting' I might fit a splitter to the bumper to make it look lower

Also, GSi surrounds will be on sometime as soon as I can source a set :)

Graeme
15-07-09, 10:08 PM
That was the sixth one, lol , the fifth was in the boot, I'll keep my eye open for one for you

16-07-09, 09:36 PM
Cheers for the comments lads :)

I want to keep it OE but also try and be different from every other Nova

If I had to go GSi bumpers it would be an exact copy of Craig Green's Nova, I'd likely change the spoiler to a GSi item but keep the Speedlines...and I wouldn't want to copy Craig

Another wee update for this thread

Found out that my back beam has cracked round about the passenger spring seat so it'll need to be changed

Got another one there for it so it shouldn't be long until it's on

Cool, I had a digi dash in my old mk2, was hopelessly inaccurate, but I loved it!

Some people reckon they look tat but I'm a big fan. Look proper retro :thumb:

vaughanmc

Needs a black dash mate.

vaughanmc
09-01-10, 08:30 PM
Hmm not really thought about a black dash if I'm honest

Grey works well with it - If I was going black, I'd go flocked :)

SRimon
09-01-10, 08:32 PM
I'm not sure on the logic of grey goes with it?

The whole GSi interior is black?!!

vaughanmc
09-01-10, 08:34 PM
Well...It doesn't really look out of place does it ?

Was going to fit some sort of fogs into front bumper.
Astra GTE bonnet vents,
Vectra handles,
Small stereo install lol

I'm thinking of something like that for the Mk1 Nova - Alpine V12 amps! Niceeeee

Well...It doesn't really look out of place does it ?

I'd say so, IMO the MK2 Grey dash only looks acceptable in a GTE, or Standard SR.

vaughanmc
09-01-10, 09:27 PM
It doesn't bother me that much atm - If I do go for anything it'll be a black Flocked item :)

Just read through your whole thread, pretty cool.

I think if it was my car it would definately have to be lower, and id put a GSi spoiler, but i suppose the spoiler youve used seperates this car from the rest, but ive never liked it.

Other than that it looks good, i hate how common GSi front bumpers are but i hate the standard mk2 bumper so i think id have to use a GSi bumper on it aswell.

keep it up mate.

Why not speak to Sean (srs1) about flocking, the quality is excellent and I have to agree the grey looks wrong imo

vaughanmc
09-01-10, 09:33 PM
Lower - No, Cat catches the ground on speedbumps as it is and the ride as it is is very very bad

Spoiler - Might be tempted to change it to a GSi spoiler but keep a hold of my Predator spoiler incase I fancy a change

GSi bumper - Too common, everyone has it and...SRi FTW

LEWI007
09-01-10, 09:49 PM
Mine used to catch so i jacked it up and put another jack under the exhaust, then lowered the car down and jacked the other jack up, it bent the exhaust up into that "well" and tucked it away, now it doesnt catch anywhere, also bent my downpipe the same way, it was a bit dodgy doing it incase i broke anything but it worked fine..

as for the GSi bumper, yes i know everyone has them, i think you should maybe get some sot of splitter no one else has, and add some small spotlights in the bottom of the bumper, just little round ones.

vaughanmc
09-01-10, 09:50 PM
Something I'd look into is front fog lights but I want to concentrate on the Mk1 Nova and just keep this is a clean daily driver

I've got a Laguna splitter in the hut as well :)

I'll need to get down one day with the digital camera and get some work done to it - Need to get the engine out the orange Nova 1st then get the engine and box down to the Mk1 and put it in then get the loom sorted out :)

You're still missing a lot of bits to be even an SRi rep really tho.

The GSi bumper is popular for a reason, it looks much nicer.

Aye mate the doors were painted later than when the sides of the car were - They've dulled down quite a bit from when they 1st went on but the colour difference can still be seen in pictures

Not that noticeable in person - It'll do for a daily runner :)
