I have a ford Xr2 and interested in putting in a Redtop. Unfortunately the ford boys/??Girls aren?t a great deal of help (love there Zetec's which to I?m not a huge fan of) so I was wondering if people on here knew what sort of processes I should go thought or even if the engine will fit !!.
Thanks a lot
Tom
every engine swap is possible, if you put the work in..
There is a blokey near cannock with a mk4 escort running a calibra turbo motor.
You could get the engine/box & trial fit it in the engine bay, make some mounts, mod the driveshafts, sort out the pipes & wires, magic a gear linkage etc. How it handles & runs would be anyone's guess.
To be honest, fitting a 2.0 zetec from a mondeo would be a load easier, it has been done loads of times & the engine would give a similar output to a redtop. remember this, the redtop is a very old engine these days.....

ah im not the only mad person that thought of doin this !!! its do able try usin the later ford g/box (the one with the starter motor @ the back ) i dont think theres much difference then its a couple of mounts and wirin ! if you got a good selection of tools (hammer, grinder n a welder ) it should be all good!!!!!!!
to be perfectly honest its alot easier to fit a 2 litre ford engine than a 2 litre vauxhall engine.
i even have a guide how how to do it and what you need.
iirc if u use the right ford engine its roughly around the same power as a redtop anyway so for the effort of doing that its not worth i think.
or you could always do the zvh conversion if you wanted..
The cav hubs fit one of the mk3 fiesta or mk5 escort etc bearings, but I can't remember which one. If you can find out, and get the MK3 legs onto a MK2, it's a big hurdle overcome.
I'd say spaceframe the front with vaux struts and make your own rear beam out of CDS with cav rear discs.
good luck if you're actually going to do it :)
thats still too much hassle for what it is i think, fair enough it was a LET.
the money you will end up spending you could spend it building up a decent zvh turbo as previously mentioned or even fitting a rs1800 engine and tuning that.
yeah, suppose you're right. Just follow everyone else like a sheep lol
well i suppose it is different, but fitting a vauxhall 2 litre into a ford with a lot of work to be done just doesnt make sense to me and im sure many others.
and im sure there is alot more problems to it than the fitting, such as ecu for the car and the engine.
