I'm afraid it looks like my 1.3 engine is fucked. It's been dripping oil for a few months now with just over 100k on the clock. I also get like a vapour.smoke coming from the crankcase breather pipe. Sometimes even a liquid (dont know wot it is. suppose it must be some sort of oil). I've just had an exhaust system put on at Ripspeed and the bloke there said my bottom end was going. I had been planning on gettin a new engine for it but was unsure of wot i wanted! I suggested that if I got a 1.4sr engine, wot would I need to do to be legal. The bloke said if I woz to tell my insurance company, I would need an engineeres report, and new engine mounts to pass that at least. Is this guy bulshittin me? Would it be classed as a modded 1.3-1.4. Or just a standard 1.4? If anyone has come across a similar situation. or knows anyway please tell. And if u have a good 1 of the engines i'm after, even better.

Why not rebuild the 1.3 engine with one of the 1.4 oversized bore and piston kits, this way you could run it as a 1.3 still and nobody would know? I think Peter Maiden Components do the kit. Is the breather pipe split or jubilee clip loose? Good luck PJ.

Not a good idea. It costs ?220 for the kit then u have got to get it bored out and rebuilt. The cam will be on it's way out soon, so thats more expense.

If youu fit a 1.4 you don't need an engineers report, the engine mounts are the same on all the nova small block engines. I have fitted a 2.0, all I did is inform the DVLA of the change on the V5 ie new CCs, new engine No. thats it! You would have to talk to the dvla about whether it will be 1.4 or 1.3, see http://www.dvla.gov.uk/welcome.htm

Ok, thanx, but if I do it now surely I must tell my insurance! And they would probably class it as a modified car!! :(

Yes tell the insurance, I don't know how they will look at it as 1.3 and 1.4 are virtully identical cars apart from the 100cc diference. It's not as though youre fitting a 3.0 twin turbo, it comes as a factory option, Ring Adrian Flux insurance and ask about the performance nova group scheme, they know about novas.
cheers Paul.

Another thing on the same matter. I just stuck a full Peco BB2 system on it. Now in the catalogue the 1.3 and 1.4 have the same codes. But in the Magnex catalogue they r different. Is this because of the fitting, or because Magnex think u should have a slightly bigger zorst on a 1.4? Another words is the manifold the same on a 1.4, as on a 1.3. I've gotta get all these things sorted. cause once my block is out, it's gonna be tuff shit if the new 1 don't fit.
