Lol well apparently its because theres an excess of lead or sulphur in the fuel.....Supermarkets are to blame lol !

yep its all the fuel from, asda, tescos, sainsburys, morrisons,
Apparantly not. I heared on the news that it is only affecting "Electronic Type Engines".

No carbs should be alrite because they dont have a sensor telling it that the car is running rich or weak like injected cars do
Not necessarily the supermarkets that are to blame, its more likely their suppliers that are fcuking up the petrol. Not just one supplier either as Tesco are supplied by Shell whilst BP supply Sainsburys (Sainsburys Super = cheap BP Ultimate lol), for example.
RJ, how the hell do you know all of this crap?
I am a fountain of useless knowledge lol
I think they're making it from potato peelings and old McDonalds chip fatlol
according to tonights news it was a contaminated batch that came in on a tanker that wasnt cleaned out properly - cross contaminated with ethanol?!?
causing some major headaches for some people - and they reckon there'll be s shortage of sensors???
bummer!
Apparantly BP Ultimate isnt affected - conventient as thats wack more expensive than normal unleaded.
Petrol selling marketting play me thinks!
Although you have a case under trading standards to reclaim costs of damage from the seller...so they say...
Yeah, saying that there be no lambda sensors available for a while as everyone is needing a new one,Lol.
And it will fook fuel injectors, cat's etc too.
Problems have been reported as far north as scotland, not just southern areas.
Quite weird that i fitted carbs last week,Lol.
ethanol, ehh?? like E85, i always thought you could run on ethanol, suppose you need some 'mods' the the engine tho.
hmmm, my old mans work car has been returning a piss poor 40 miles on a tenners worth of fuel the last few days (hes got a W reg honda accord)
wonder if this has anything to do with it ??
The problem is the ethanol is being picked up by the lambda sensor and its shutting the engines down within a few miles of the garage on most occasions.
All Tesco garages are shut and coned off around Wolverhampton tonight as I drove through going to Wales & back. :S
Sounds like a different prob you've got draper.

lol all you carb people should offer them 40p per litre to use the nasty stuff up as it wont affect you lol
Meh, well I put ?20 of Tesco's fuel in last night and had no problems. Obviously the petrol is ok down here!
....whats the betting now I've said that my car will konk out on the way home from work today lol

Happened in Tesco wrexham a few years ago. They did tests and refused to accept it was their fault then too - but pretty much everyone who filled up that day ended up having problems to some extent. Tesco eventually paid for a handfull of people to have their fuel systems cleaned out.
My other half and I had just met at the time, and it was that fuel problem that took her nova off the road - resulting in its untimely death.
According to reports on BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6406801.stm), Greenergy seem to be involved. That doesn't surprise me - they're the suppliers of Tesco's 99RON fuel (which, you'll note, is primarily sold in the South East, where the main problems seem to be) and there's talk of the fuel having too much ethanol in it.
Related? Well, yes. To up the RON value of petrol, ethanol is used. Unfortunately this lowers the calorific value of the fuel, but the average consumer just looks at the high RON value and (incorrectly) assumes higher RON = better fuel. Greenergy attain a 99RON value on their super duper unleaded (the stuff thats sold by Tesco) by adding excessive amounts of ethanol. Seems someone at Greenergy may have got a little over-enthusiastic with the ethanol!

All prices at non-supermarket forecourts have gone up round here.
I didn't have time to fill up at Tesco as it's always busy this time of the morning so went to the Total garage across the road from work that's run by Ethnic Majorities ;) A couple of days ago unleaded was priced at 84.9p a litre... it's now 87.4p
Looks like their cashing in on the problem.
i filled up the night before this problem occured in essex... so far seem to have gotten away with it....

I would normally fill up at Sainsburys but since changing job it's a bit out of my way... especially in rush hour. I'm saving up my nectar points for a day at the skid pan lol. I've got 4000... only another 6000 to go.
Its times like this where I love my dirty Derv lol
And im pretty sure the SR would relish a bit of ethanol!

My mate went all the way down to Leeds (from Scottish border) today to pick up a BMW he's been wanting for ages.
he left with his BMW happy as larry, filled up with go-go-gas and 20-25miles later engine went pop haha.
More details to follow.
I feel like taking my dads carb'd F reg Nissan van out and drive past the queue's at the petrol pumps hanging out of the window cracking lighters open haha
I got a free tank of petrol out of all this lol
Someone panicing after putting a full tank in, came into our garage to get their tank emptied, out of theirs into mine havent got a problem yet after 40 odd miles

pfff like id spend an extra 10p a litre for a few rons more or what ever makes it so super duper!
I've never bought super, ever,Lol.
I used to buy Optimax, but when it changed to VPower two of my spark plugs failed, one after the other. CBA with it now and just use mostly Sainsburys SUL, or Tescos SUL if theres no Sainsburys nearby. Car seems more than happy on that.
Who reckons this guy contacted Sky just so he could pose with his Porker.
