Its illegal for a manufacturer to insist on a log book to order in parts. BMW do try it with there M sport bits etc but if you questioned the legality they would soon let you do it.

The reason why vaux can apply it in the 888s case is because it wasn'ta main stream manufactured car, it was a specialist conversion if you will. They wanted to do the same thing with the VXR but couldn't.

So, you CAN NOT buy 888 parts without the log book unless you have a friend ;)

Ste L
24-05-07, 11:43 AM
you can buy all the 888 parts from the vxr performance center, sell the interior, tunning pack, wheels suspension and so on....

does it realy matter how you can get hold of 888 parts?

olix99
25-05-07, 02:33 PM
/\ exactly lol

this thread is about the car - not an argument about who gets what parts by showing what and lying about anything else.

EDIT : just found out im going to PVS my girlfriend had booked it on the sly! cant wait to see your car in the flesh as it were joff !!!! :thumb:

Right for all of you who could make PVS here's a bit of an update :-

Needed to finish off the speaker pods/ door pockets so trimmed up the passenger side on first :-

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/pod4a.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/pod5a.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/pod6a.jpg

And then fitted it to the door card and onto the door :-

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/pod7a.jpg

Then sorted out the drivers side - basically similar to above :-

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/pod8a.jpg

Nova was away most of the day last Thursday getting the suspension all set up so got out the Wolfrace wheels :-

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/voodoo1a.jpg

.... and got them all cleaned and polished up ready for fitting :-

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Voodoo2a.jpg

Also concluded that I would have insufficient time to finish off the boot install. I'd already fibreglassed the wheelwell but had loads of work to do so wired up an temporary amp so I had some tunes on the way down to PVS :-

It was then off to PVS first thing Sunday morning (6am departure!). Quite scary really driving 180 miles wondering if something will break / drop off / conk out !!!!

I can confrim all was well (apart from jiggered wiper blades, a vibrating sunroof switch, vents which only work on warm or hot and a offside rear wheel wanting to catch on the inside of the wheel arch (too low basically!)

Got to PVS and was almost mobbed by the Novaload crew !!! Cheers for the reception and all the comments!!!

Got voted best car of the stand by Craig Green & co (cheers) and then went on to win the final against the rest of the car clubs !!!

Pics at PVS of the almost finished item!

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/PVS1a.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/PVS2a.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/PVS3a.jpg

Just need to change the oil for some semi (now done 500 of the 1000 miles run in needed), sort out the above problems and finish the install and we'll be ready for Billing in July.

More pics of the install once it gets somewhere!

Enjoy

The Voodoo's are on a 45mm offset but are 7" wide. The reason why they look a smaller offset is that the front geometry is bang on 1.25 degrees negative camber which does push the top of the tyre out a bit ( it was running 3 degrees of negative camber).

I need to level off the rear better as its lower on one side (drivers) than the other, but apart from that none of the tyres will then catch anywhere.

These wheels are only for mincing around on, I've got the Astra mk4 SXI rims which are 6" wide on a 49mm offset to give it death on .

Dan ,

I did about 100 miles pootling around my local area without any issues, so another 360 in one day should of been OK and it was. I was still driving along listening at every noise to make sure nothing was breaking / dropping off !

Did notice that a couple of the bolts that connects the exhaust housing to the actual turbo unit were looking a bit loose. Need to sort those out before I go anywhere else!

Had a bit of a mince around at the weekend - here's some nice pics on the drive, not really cleaned or polished, just rolled out of the garage ! (just noticed the bonnet isn't closed properly !) :-

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Flux7.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Flux8.jpg

Also sorted out a couple of problems that have developed :-

- Downpipe to turbo housing bolts were working loose - all tightened up
- Sunroof switch vibrating like mad - sorted
- Both digi-dashes started to come away from the shrouds on the way home from PVS - now fibreglassed in properly.
- Handbrake was sticking on - the plastic sleeve on the rear beam had moved - now sorted.

Also changed the oil as I have done 500 miles on mineral oil . Changed to semi-synthetic for the next 500 miles.

I've also raised the rear slightly as the drivers side rear was catching on the arch.

Now need to concerntrate on finishing off the boot install. Have all the MDF sorted so just need some time in the garage to finish it off !

What a brilliant thread and hats off to you and your work on the Nova looks like all the time has paid off but i think the main reason i love this car (despite the very high quality of work and very good choice in parts) is becuase its not just another GSI lookalike Nova with an XE in it (no dis-respect to any of you out there with a car similar to the description, still better than whati got!:(), the boat really has been pushed out, perhaps now the whole oldschool PNG thing is back perhaps people will try new ideas again and not follow others.

Congrats on the great build, i hope you win many awards for all of the hard work any money spent:thumb:

Bit of an update before Billing .....

Now been able to spend some time sorting out the ICE install. This is the first time I've done a proper build as before the ICE has just been a functional affair, hopefully this is now more of install.....

First started making a wood surround and fibreglassing the sparewheel well ...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/ice3a.jpg

After about 10 layers of fibre glass next was to put an MDF top onto the sub enclosure, also trail fitted the amp rack, gives you an idea of the layout ...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice4a.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice5a.jpg

Next job was to carpet the flooring and install the JL 12W6 sub ...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/JL.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice6a.jpg

Also fitted in the 1 farad power cap ...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice8a.jpg

And did a nice tidy job of the fuses ....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice9a.jpg

I then trimmed up the amp rack and mounted my two Philips DAP600 amps....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice10a.jpg

Also put in a chrome fire extingusher "just in case".

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice11a.jpg

Also fitted and plumbed in the nitrous gauge and got the blue LED lighting working ...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice12a.jpg

joff-turbo-nova
04-07-07, 05:02 PM
I then mounted up the Sony active crossover network ....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice13a.jpg

I then wired it all in , had a good hoover out and mounted the Nos bottle on the rear strut brace and job done !

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice15a.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Ice16a.jpg

Gave it a good work out today - can't believe how low the JL sub goes - and there's only on 12" and the garage door was rattling - played my Moby album ("Play") and my guts shook !!!

Quite pleased with the overall finish, just need to clean every where now as everthing has got MDF dust on it!!

See you at Billing - got a spot on the Total Vauxhall stand!

Well Billing has been and gone and a very good weekend it was too !!! It has just left me with some sort of viral infection I have picked up and has put me off work for a week !!!

My Billing pics are in my album here :- Billing 2007 pics (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Billing%202007/?start=all)

However here's a few :-

Just found and read most of this thread joff. Saw your car at BCCC after spraying, whom also sprayed my nova 16V in arden blue. Anyway you mention Bilstein suspension kit which is fully adjustable without having to go to a nasty rear coilover setup. Where did you get this kit from?

Thanks in advance for reply.

Got it off a lad from Kent who was going to put it on a Rio Verde green nova historically owned by Gary Hope , now owned by Rick Marland (from Oldham).

It was brand new, never been fitted and he wanted half the RRP which is about ?1000 .

Demon Tweeks sell them at ?1169 plus delivery now

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=ROAD&pcode=BLSGM5-8189

Another spot here is selling it for ?860 (I think that will be plus VAT & Del)

http://www.motorscope.co.uk/suspension.htm#Bilstein

Hope this helps - have a dig around on the net and see what you can find or maybe wait a while for one to come up on either the PNG website, Migweb, Corsasport or ebay.

Thanks for reply joff.

I have had a quick look around and found a good price on suspension. The prices you give are for Bilsein B14 PSS (dampers are not adjustable) as apose to B16 PSS9 (adjustable dampers). I am not interested in adjustable dampers only adjustable springs for which I have found a price of ?615 inc vat. Not half bad for what is a fully adjustable ride height suspension with a quality name. see http://www.247ppd.com/product~prodID~922626.htm.

I am going to order these ASAP at this price.:D

P.S. didn't mention earlier but I take my hat off to you for putting so much time and effort into the nova. I hate to think what you say when the insurance company asks you to list any modifications you may have.

I am just building my nova 2.0 16V not too far away from you and the project has taken me 8 months so far and that seems like forever - never mind two and a half years.

Quite easy really, 9 core multi cable, a good soldering iron and some patience!!!! The P series Pioneer head units only need 8 cables to get the face plate to work , but these head units were on sale in 1999/2000 . Unsure how the newer stuff connects but basically the more connections the more soldering required!

Quick update on events - had the guys from Total Vauxhall round for a photoshoot today.

Did quite a few tracking shots on a dual carriage way just down the road then did some static shots at a local haulage yard about 4 miles up the road.

This is only pic I took - its a bit washed out - I left it to the experts !!!

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Tv1a.jpg

Aparently due to it being very sunny it was giving them difficulties with light/shade balances so they got out some flash lights !!!!

If the pics come out OK then it will be on the front cover at some point later this year !!

Dan Williamson is doing the write up (ex-Revs) so should be OK !

Watch this space !!!

Quick update .....

Just been sorting out some new spark plugs and a revised fuel pressure regulator.....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/PICT0065.jpg

Also changed the yellow bosch injectors for some bosch red ones from a Saab (which have been cleaned and refurbed by the local Bosch Fuel Injection place)

Sorted an oil change so I am now 100% fully synthetic .... Mobil 1's finest!

All this is in readiness for a rolling road & rechip session this Friday at The Racing Line in Halifax The Racing Line (http://www.theracingline.co.uk/welcome.php)

I have been recommended by a pal who had his Evo VIII sorted there and he reckons they know what they are doing . Spoke to them on the phone and they were asking the right questions about the engine spec ..... so I will scan in the charts when I get back.

Also need to get the nitrous bottle filled this week as well so they can make sure that this is running right on the rollers as well.

Will update once I have further news!

How much nitrous are you using and what type of rollers do they have ?

Personally I'd avoid using the gas on the rollers if its a braked type of setup and from LOTS of testing recently we have seen some extremely strange figures using widebands to tune nitrous.

Myself and Gaz'd with the Corsa have both lost engines due to trusting widebands, usually on gas they show rich when infact its running completely the opposite.

Feel free to drop me a PM, got plenty of experience in this and wouldn't want you to potentially ruin a good engine

Right this thread has now come full circle from September '02 when it was last on the rollers until today, when it has been on the rollers again under the 888 guise.

As mentioned I had a session booked on the rollers at a spot called The Racing Line , in Halifax tucked up on a small industrial estate on the outskirts.

Simon the chap who runs it seems to know how to get the most from these engines , although he specialises in the Evo's (there was a nice Evo X with just a 1000 miles on the clock getting a remap when I arrived)

Pics of the nova on the rollers ....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/RollingRoad1.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/RollingRoad2.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/RollingRoad3.jpg

The session was really a game of two halves ..... got it set up and warmed up and gave it a few run ups and came up with this on standard management....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/RRoad.jpg

I was a bit miffed at this as I was wanting at least 260 bhp - aparently the boost controller on the standard ECU's are pants and this is what was holding it back.

So the nova came off the rollers for a while whilst I swapped over the standard chips for some EDS phase II ones I had brought with me , just in case we needed that little extra .... and I'm glad I did .... the results ......

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/RRoad2.jpg

WOW - 295 bhp and 310 ft/lb torque !!! Simon says his rollers are about cock on and read less than Well Lanes (which are a bit optimistic from experience)

Here's some video footage :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2hCl1wrVk8

Chuffed at that, but you will notice the boost comes in hard at 4500 rpm and at 5200 rpm it starts trailing off again - again due to the stock boost controller . I will be getting an Apexi jobbie which should smooth out the boost curve better.

It's an animal on the road now :D :D :D

Sounds about right. P2 is meant to be 18psi holding 15psi.

I know a lot of people hate overboost but I think its great for normal driving. Generally means you don't have to rev past 5k.

I stand corrected - just looked at the boost graph - peaked at 1.3 bar (18 psi) at 4750 then dropped back to 0.9 bar (13 psi)

AFR was roughly 10.5, peaked to 11.8 when the boost jumped up then came back to 10.5 after 5500

This was my graph with actuator set to 15psi and holding 10psi.

It now peaks at 22psi and drops to 18ish but can fall to 13. Fuelling is fine at 22psi. On standard kkk with a gas flowed head.

Its been a while since I have made any changes but I did a bit more tinkering today .....

I sourced an Apexi boost controller on the advice of the chaps at The Racing Line who set up the car last year. I've had the controller about 6 months so I thought I'd best get it fitted before this years season kicks off in earnest!

I thought about the best place to put the controller and have come up with here .....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Apexi1.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Apexi2.jpg

Seems to nestle quite nicely on the end of the dash and is in easy reach for the all important tweaking when setting up.

Just need to figure out the wiring - the instruction manual says this :-

Apexi Loom-----------GM Loom

Red-------------------Black (ignition switched positive)
Purple-----------------Green (RPM signal)
Green-----------------Earth
Black------------------Earth
Grey------------------????? (throttle signal)
White-----------------Blue/red (speed signal from digidash transducer)

Anyone know on the C20LET which wire to use for the throttle sensor wire (as the C20LET has five wires going to the TPS)

Also have these in the box ......

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Apexi4.jpg

This above is the boost sensor - easy to plumb in from the feed to the fuel pressure regulator.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Apexi3.jpg

Now this part above has me foxed a bit - I assume this will take the place of the amal value (which will be left wired in) but I am unsure which pipes should go where - any advice much appreciated !

OK,
With a bit of searching and some advice I think I now have this sussed ....

The Apexi grey wire for the TPS should be attached to a brown green wire here ....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/C20LEtwiring.jpg

Which on the multiplug is pin 53 .....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/C20LETpins.jpg

So thats the wiring issue sorted ! The plumbing bit I think goes from the standard piping which looks like this ....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Controller1.jpg

To this with the Apexi controller....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/Controller1-1.jpg

Can you chaps confirm this is the correct way of plumbing in. Basically capping off the pipe to the turbo and the controller has the wastegate pipe on COM and the breather pipe on NC.

Sorry Keith , wasn't ignoring you, for some reason I didn't get any emails telling me there were replies to my thread.

Anyway - its a great bit of kit once you get your head round how it works - it really does hold boost well all the way up to just over 6k, whereas before it was just coming in at 4.5 k and off at 5.5k . You can actually tweak it while driving along so you can feel the immediate effects of the changes.

I haven't set up the in gear learning option yet, something to sort in the next few weeks . I think I will get it on the rollers again so I know its set up at the optimal settings.

And yes it needs an MOT shortly - booked in for Saturday morning.

Any updates Joff?

The honest answer to this is no. The nova needs a recon on the turbo as the seals have gone so I will need to pull this off sometime and send it off for some TLC.

However you will see from my Meriva thread due to a few problems with the Vectra I am in need some something that I can rely upon that is not too high maintenance. The Vectra is now on 146k so I am looking to press the new 59 plate meriva into service sooner rather than later.

This coupled with the fact that I have some job dependant exams that I need to pass this year (no exam passes = dismissal from job come January 2012) makes my time even more limited for projects.

Such is the call on my time this year it will be unlikely that the nova will be taxed and pulled out of winter storage this year.

Once I have my exams sorted , which should be (touching lots of wood) by October this year I will be able to resume the trailer project and get the tubo changed over.

Hi,

Not much happened this year - due to work commitments ( I needed a diploma in financial planning) and needing to sort my daily driver out (my new Meriva) the Nova has taken a back seat this year.

I need to get my turbo recon'ed over the winter as the seals have gone. I suspect this may be down to the higher pressure produced by the Z20LET oil pump - I will probably fit a restrictor bolt like the Z20LET boys do to lower the oil pressure.

Otherwise she's wrapped up waiting for next year.

Bit of an update,

You will recall that at Billing in 2010 the nova was smoking like a trooper , well, finally got my finger out in preparation for the 2012 season....

With the help of spud got the Nova out of storage, put some oil in the bores and cranked over for a bit, put the plugs back in and a bit of petrol and she spluttered into life. Not bad for being mothballed for 18 months!

Got the nova into the garage and onto the axle stands and got the front bumper off ....

We then stripped the intercooler and radiator off .....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_8949.jpg

Spud then suggested we used the windy gun on the plugs lollollollollollollollol

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_8950.jpg

We then got the turbo off with lots of oil coming from the exhaust side .....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_8954.jpg

Here's a shot of the wastegate and exhaust blades .....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_8951.jpg

Got the turbo stripped and ready to be sent off for some new seals....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_8952.jpg

The engine bay needs a thorough clean and some of the silcone pipes need changing as they have discoloured due to oil vapour .The whole car needs a valet and there are some other jobs to do like changing the sub to a new JL one which hasn't got a damaged cone and putting the rear view mirror back on and generally giving it a once over !

Cheers to Spud for the assistance in getting things stripped and moved around!

Excellent work Joff, can you link the bolt up please when you've found the right one please so I can get one too, I also be questioning Spud's motives helping you unbolt bits off your car whilst he is still building his lol

Yes, everyone used the Zlet one for the Clet as it lets in less oil, so it wont pool in the bottom and smoke..

Yes, correct its the Kingdom Developments one they made before all the stupid Jap style cr@p came into fashion in the late 90's , GSI Big Mouth , I sourced it still in primer and it had a load of micro bubble holes from the original moulding which needed filling and sanding!

Colour is Europa Blue as found on the Astra G 888's and Coupe Turbo's.

They are a fibreglass bumper from top to bottom. The wide mouth bit is considerably bigger than you would get with an OE GSI bumper with a bit grafted on the bottom.

Ok update on a few changes....

The centre console was looking a bit aged , the Dell Axim PDA has been somewhat troublesome for the last 3-4 years and completely packed up in 2013.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_5775_zpsui79pwu5.jpg

The underlying adhesive had started to crack....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_5777a_zps6rszeqtp.jpg

So it was out with the old.....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_5774_zps6owp3q9l.jpg

Any one wants a free PDA.....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_5776_zpsboevln5i.jpg

And out with the angle grinder. A TomTom Start 60 was inserted and I got busy with the fibreglass filler...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_5780_zpssvilmfaw.jpg

And then some more...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_5781_zpskoecxlwm.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_5782_zpskuweqeyz.jpg

Then after lots of sanding I got the filler out and smoothed things off...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_5926_zpsonggpajo.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_5925_zpsqccgxlfr.jpg

So broke the flocker out and the blue flock....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_6085_zpsq0d5hzbw.jpg

I have de-blinged it a bit as well. And all wired back up in the car...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_6107a_zpsm2nwhonq.jpg

Couldn't resist changing the start up and shut down screens to the 888 logo !

joff-turbo-nova
26-04-15, 10:18 PM
Also did a job I have been putting off since 2013 (as I didn't have the Nova out last year) - the cambelt !

Here is the original one from the engine build - well over due on time rather than miles...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_6102_zpsph61oije.jpg

After removal it seemed in very good condition, but I didn't want to take any chances...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_6108_zpswfascfga.jpg

So on with the new idlers and belt (after a lot of swearing and grazing of knuckles)...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/joff-turbo-nova/IMG_6109_zpswjltlo3h.jpg

Used the special tensioner tool I got a few weeks back and tensioned using the Haynes method of winding on 7 teeth from the marks and tensioning at that point . Seemed to work fine with just under 90 degrees of deflection in the belt.

Suffice to say my levels of patience and good will have been somewhat diminished today - I forgot how much of a git changing belts with an inch and a quarter clearance can be!

Need to change the oil and flush through some new brake fluid and it should be ready for the MOT in a couple of weeks.

Cheers

Joff

Love the new center console. Though youd of gone with a tablet over a satnav. Looks much better. Black knobs are nicer too.

Oh and the smoother and tidier you put filler in, the easier it is to sand out.

Also all your pictures still work from start to finish on the wip which is a total bonus, hopefully this will make others aware of a decent build and give others a winter boost.
