Hi - hope someone can help here. My mate has a 1990 Nova 1.2 Star and he somehow - don't ask me how - managed to pull most of the aerial out, leaving only the bottom bit in (being that it's telescopic), which has dropped down into the aerial body where it is stuck.

It will as usual be down to me to fix, and I have no problem getting another aerial from a scrapyard, but my only access to the aerial underneath is through the wheelarch and although the aerial unbolts from the wing fine I can't get it to come out of that hole far enough for me to see the wiring attachment so it can be disconnected due to the length of the wire.

So, how is the wiring attached to the aerial body and how is best to remove it? My normal answer would be to yank it til it breaks off but since it warrants replacement, that isn't a cracking idea.

Can anyone tell me how it is attached and removed, then? Since I'm fumbling around in the blind I can't actually see it, so any assistance much appreciated, both to get the broken one out of his car and to remove the scrap one when he or I muster the energy to get one.

Cheers

Phil

PS. No talk about beesting aerials etc please! It's a totally standard runabout and he has no inclination to modify it in any way apart from the t-cut, polish and new hubcaps...cheers!

If I remember rightly, the cable's crimped to a ring-tab which is held on by a bolt at the base of the aerial

OK, cheers - got an aerial from Halfords today - just a bog standard thing almost identical to the old one - and managed to replace it. Wire was left attached to aerial and the whole lot was removed and replaced - not as difficult as it sounds, luckily.

Thanks anyway

Phil
