Did you buy this in Bangor? Remember seeing a white mark 1 like that floating about, but could never get the driver stopped to try and buy it!!

Look well anyway, enjoy it.

that looks remarkably clean.... please throw away the 1.0 & fit something decent lol

turbo-boy
09-10-13, 09:04 PM
yes amg that is the one still got the original tyres and stuff for it, i want to keep it stanard but my head is telling me to c20let it

gary_126
09-10-13, 09:07 PM
Please don't let it. Slammed on some choice wheels :D There so retro now, starting to prefer them to mk2's in some ways, and im a mk2 die hard lol

09-10-13, 09:23 PM
Keep it standard, it looks really nice. Yes the 1.0 is not a rocket but it is economic, capable enough for everyday use and simple, if you want a faster car, buy another Nova and let it.

turbo-boy
10-10-13, 07:53 AM
That's the plans gonna get it buffed and polished up and paint the stanard steel wheels and keep it standard for a while

That only works for a while. I reckon I've only kept my Flair standard for so long because it never leaves the shed!!!

I will prob sell it before I get board of it being standard lol

If you're looking for a base for a turbo project, then thats perfect, why would you sell a clean tidy low mileage car, to find one thats not as clean and going to need welding up, before you can weld strengthening bits to it for the power?

turbo-boy
13-10-13, 11:52 AM
ano spudly im going to let, have engine and stuff buy need let ,ecu, loom and sensors, and strenghtening kit to weld into

cheers nick i was reading ur thread lastnight, likin the red machine, u think there would be enough room behide the mk1 grill for a intercooler as i dont want a intercooler hanging out the front, if not i will hav to charge cooler it instead

Cheers, I plan to use a custom rad/cooler setup for mine but theirs definately room for a decent size front mount if the front panels recessed a little. Take a look at Kristan (corsakid's) wip thread as he posted some pics recently of it all fitting nicely behind the same bumper we have without making a mess of it.

You can fit a decent size twin pass intercooler behind the mk1 grill/bumper

I have one fits perfect, no bumper trimming

I recall you mentioning this.... Do you think it would still fit once a gsi spec radiator is brought forward and centralised as per Clet conversion to clear the turbo?

Main plan is to get it all
Painted start at the back and work My way forward then weld I'm strengthening kit, I'm thinking abiut not boxing the chassis leg for the alternator and just heating it up abit where it would hit when the engine is fitted as I have seem ones that people do which are very big and not specific to the alternator hitting the chassis leg

Ah fair enough mate... Mine hasn't moved an inch in months! I'm on with a few small changes for next year but nothing major hence why I haven't updated my thread. It may be sometime before my conversion happens as I can't afford to finish it currently due to other commitments. So for the time being I'll just leave it drive able so I can still enjoy it on the odd sunny day. :)

Progress looks well fella.... I wouldn't bother with seam sealer though as it can look untidy even when applied nicely. I'd clean the welds up prime and paint as the bay will look far neater and superior in my opinion. ;)

Dont forget to get some paint & waxoyl etc up inside the chassis leg where you have heated it as any protection that was on there would have burnt off.
Nice neat job.

Stick with KKK and 280ish Bhp and just enjoy it - So many projects fall down once they stray away from the standardish engine spec.

Rally design, i renwed mine too as they where rounded from people trying to use 11mm spanners on them.
I was told all the nipples are the same too, which i found odd. But they work and fit and all i did was pick the first on the list.

Will F
09-04-14, 07:55 PM
Are you running an ic too? From personal experience those pace charge coolers are pretty useless

turbo-boy
09-04-14, 08:13 PM
benn, i had one so used it just as space behind my 1 piece bumper is tighter compared to a mk2 one and i didnt want to cut it and keep the oe look,

will f ,, what was your personal expiences? have heard of people getting air locks in them , i possioned mine so my outlet is at the top (highest) part of the cooler so its easy to bleed

Kev Turbo
09-04-14, 09:32 PM
Be interesting to put a air charge temp gauge / sensor into the top hat and see how efficient the charge cooler is. I would imagine without an intercooler at all the temps could be quite high.

Love the updates - keep them coming.

turbo-boy

Will F
10-04-14, 08:34 PM
I fitted a charge temp gauge with my c/c and off phase it would get a tad hot under constant load. In summer you could only do short squirts. With the phase button pressed you could literally do one run through the gears before the temp was over 65 degrees! They are recommended to be used with the standard let intercooler...

Will F
10-04-14, 08:35 PM
Ps it's due to a really awful pre rad (get a cinquecento rad) and the fact the heat exchanger is a single core...

I'm very interested in your charge cooler set up as I would love to bin my intercooler. How do you think it will compare to running a frontera intercooler?

Also the water injection kit, will you be running that with standard engine management?

turbo-boy
16-09-14, 10:53 PM
for me to keep the standard look of the front of the car has cost we quite a bit but that was my intentions from the start.yes the cooler should cope well at my power levels and yes i am gonna be running methonal aswel as water to even further reduce my charge temps and give me a lower cumbostion temps aswell helping the whole thing out and to reduce knock, i plan on fitting another turbo aswell but wont be til after xmas

Why not ask Pro alloy to make you a bespoke intercooler, even better run both which i done years ago on C20TBO. lovely little car non the less

Keep the courtney one which i had mount that rad below bumper lever and have intercooler made, looked great and worked perfect on mine, and not too cluttered.

Kev Turbo
18-09-14, 06:32 AM
I believe with the standard turbo there is room for a custom rad and cooler pack if designed correctly which will allow you keep the standard front end look.

As per Keith Robinson, Nick J and Andy Bishops car. However I don't think you will see any change out of £1000?

Kev Turbo
18-09-14, 11:40 AM
The difference between mk1 and mk2 bumpers is minimal. In many respects this setup suits the mk1 more due to having less of a bumper to had any front panel modification.

Cracking job. Just read through from start, you seem amazingly patient and methodical starting from the back and working to the front.
most of us would probably whack the engine in first and work back..especially when it's all built ready to go in....
