16-12-13, 11:56 PM
Just a note on the plating kit, you dont really need to fit the plate on the o/s leg as its a double skinned chassis leg anyway, just a thought

bazzap8389
17-12-13, 12:21 AM
I'll keep that in mind bud ta :)

17-12-13, 08:11 PM
Good work Bazza, what's the plans interior wise once you've got around to it?

bazzap8389
17-12-13, 08:21 PM
Cheers, it will just be stripped. I'll have my carbon buckets, dash cage and harnesses. I've got some carbon trim to tidy the inner quarters up that's it really. Oh and my tank and lines will be inside as well.

Benn
17-12-13, 08:56 PM
Carbon tank? Or carbon skinned tank?

Benn
17-12-13, 09:00 PM
When i talked about welding the seam, this is where i ment. But i did both sides (in bay and inner arch) Have always told people to do both sides if asked too)

http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu329/bazzap8389/null_zps508990c3.jpg

Front end looks great.

bazzap8389
17-12-13, 09:03 PM
The tank is just plastic Benn, i was thinking about just doing the welding in the bay now the seam sealer will hide it anyway, and thanks it's getting there.

nova_stee
17-12-13, 09:09 PM
If your running 500 bhp welded every seam and fit every plate. The cars hardly going to look stock anyways its 80% carbon fibre lol

If done right, seam sealant can be very neat and tidy. Just practice a bit to get it right (on something old)

And if it's plastic, i'd deffo get a carbon skin made.. Would look frigging lush.

yeah think I will, just want it to look reasonably standard except for the carbon really.

Ah ok I'll give that a go. Never thought of that tbh I'll maybe have a word with Chris see if we can sort something out.

18-01-14, 08:15 PM
Not an update but looks like I'm getting a wider set of wings made so I might part with the carbon ones I already have.

i should have a good update in the next 2 weeks or so!

dgbnova#1
18-01-14, 10:03 PM
You going wide track then so doing the rear quarters then?

heds
18-01-14, 10:23 PM
ive just been through 52 pages and can only see a carbon bonnet, you removed all the pictures of carbon parts?

bazzap8389
18-01-14, 11:01 PM
Think I'll be putting wider wheels on it not 100% sure yet,and I'm just keeping the rear arches the original width in only wanting wider fronts so I can get wider wheels on.

have a look on page 3 mate there is pics of my bumpers, skirts, wings, doors, and grille my mirrors and dash are somewhere in the thread aswell. I'll have some pics of the boot and quarters and roof soon hopefully :)

I've got some free time at work just now so thought I would strip down the rear brakes. I'm going to give the callipers a lick of paint, what colour? Red or black? Will Hammerite be ok? I've got some new discs and pads as well.

Get Wickes "direct to metal" paint if you can, much better than hammerright (if your spraying for a nice smooth finish) Car staying red? Dark bumpers? If yes i'd paint them red.

Cut the dust guard off to save some weight; black all the way.

black all the way.

Heres one I did a few years back. Had the whole beam shot blasted and then powder coated black also. New everything, even bushs. On a Corsa but same thing...

I ended up nipping out on my lunch break to get Hammerite. I got black but it's the hardened one I think and it's came up really good! It's like a metallic black/ really dark grey looks good. I was going to go red but the front brakes will be black so I'll keep them even. Only the a,b and c pillars will be red, the rest is carbon.

No problems doing this at all?

The rear turrets and tubs will be getting started next week :)

Benn
31-01-14, 04:40 PM
The chassis on the floor looks much better. I did the same with mine.

MARTIN KELSON
31-01-14, 06:59 PM
Did you make those floor plates?
must do mine when next in bits. Knackered by years of jacking & looking ropey.

bazzap8389
31-01-14, 07:06 PM
Yeah Benn looks much better than before.

Martin, yeah the plates were made to suit. They are solid! Won't be be knackering them in a hurry that's for sure.

Benn
01-02-14, 09:37 AM
Are you welding around the turret too? With how nice your welding is, you'll barely see it after a coat of primer and paint.

SRimon
01-02-14, 09:45 AM
Some nice fabrication there..!

Where about do you mean? At the bottom of the turrets or around the plates?

Some nice fabrication there..!
Thanks, i can't take the credit for it though!

also I've found a pic if how i want my tubs to look, my turrets will be slightly shorter though.

On the main body of the turret, the seam that is kinda looking at you in the pic... (turret to inner arch bit)

Love the look of the rear turns and turrets. Be able to go mega low with that..

BRoadGhost

You'll be bending the floor with bombproof chassis legs. I did my arches in a similar way:-

bazzap8389
03-02-14, 05:18 PM
I'll have a think about that Benn. That looks good brg!

I've had a member asking for a few pics of my carbon bits so managed to dig a door out lol my thread has been missing the carbon recently so here a few pics. They weigh in at around 5.5kg each

http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu329/bazzap8389/1555CBB7-756B-46C1-828C-A3D2B5B9EEC6_zpspkdlm0qa.jpg (http://s660.photobucket.com/user/bazzap8389/media/1555CBB7-756B-46C1-828C-A3D2B5B9EEC6_zpspkdlm0qa.jpg.html)

Funk me that door is very sexy!

5.5kg? Is that right? Doesn't seem that light? A totally bare nova door isnt that heavy....

Les Frangins
03-02-14, 06:17 PM
I would have thought that the carbon doors are lighter !

A fiberglass door (http://www.cmcomposites.co.uk/nova-fiberglass-doors.php) weighs only 5kg.

bazzap8389
03-02-14, 06:47 PM
The inside of the door is fibreglass, I'm not convinced they weigh 5.5 tbh I'm taking a door to work tonight to weigh it lol

Thats the nova off the spit now, getting ready to cut the floor, roof and quarters off soon!

Benn
07-02-14, 09:14 AM
Surely you want it on the spit to be working at head height and the ease of turning it where needed..

bazzap8389
07-02-14, 12:45 PM
Hmm not sure what we'd attach the spit to with the floor and rear panel etc cut out....

bazzap8389

no chance on it being ready rob I've still got lots to do yet, I haven't even sent Phil my engine yet lol

Southie
09-02-14, 07:38 PM
Getting there Bazza, what's left to get carbon wise and will it be structurally sound with you chopping so much away?

bazzap8389
09-02-14, 07:41 PM
Yeah slowly but surly, I'm waiting for the roof and quarter panels to be made as far as I know the quarters are almost complete.

Yeah ah it will be good and strong, the guy that's doing it does body work on lots of rally cars etc he knows what he's doing and had assured me it will be strong :)

bazzap8389
14-02-14, 07:11 PM

Erm the above pic.

Do the m/c replacement bit and servos not still fit in the std Nova place? Look lie they do, but you have a modded pedal box with no thingie bar.... How's that work?

bazzap8389
15-02-14, 04:12 PM
It's a modified corsa one, it will be in place where the battery would
usually sit and the battery will be relocated to the boot :)

Awesome.

But i was hoping it would be custom tubs and a flat floor...

bazzap8389
26-02-14, 12:10 PM
I'll still be using custom tubs and flat floor :) just using the calibra floor as a base since it has all the mounts etc that are needed but we will wait and see when I have the calibra in my possession. Should be some good updates coming soon!

Best/neatest Nova I've seen with GM 4x4 is that white MK2 that was at PVS last year, everything looked like it was meant to be there and OE

Maybe worth looking at few pics for inspiration

That was the plan but after seeing ste's one we might make out own now. was going to use the axle etc aswell but I think we're going to make something up instead because it's really heavy for what it is but I'll wait and see what happens as we go.

Exactly where my thought process went with my car with using vauxhall stuff and why I ended up nissan gear in the end.

Make sure you take loads of measurements off the cav, especially in relation to where things mount up and there pick up points etc. If I was starting again I'd probably look to make a "negative jig thingy" like they did on Project Binky.

I'll defs be using the diff etc but I might even make up the axle and wishbones etc in alloy at work to make it all lightweight and the bodyshop has a jig to out the car on already so it's all good :)

dgbnova#1
12-03-14, 09:59 AM
You gona machine your own wishbones up that will be awsome me likes the sound of that

bazzap8389
12-03-14, 10:27 AM
Ill wait and see, it's defs something else to think about. I'll just order up billet alloy through work and take it from there. I'll see how heavy the original stuff is when we remove it.

dgbnova#1
12-03-14, 10:53 AM
Yes well if it's built from original spec you have options to change later plus a little weight not the end of the world at that particular part of the car plus you only need to copy the oe arms for machining then

That would be a good plan just build it to the original spec then machine parts to suit. Don't know if alloy would be strong enough unless it's some sort of aero grade.

Ordered the fibreglass nova wings, paid with paypay; after 4 weeks of nothing got in contact, that took about four days to reach a response, got told it would be following week, three weeks later nothing, got in contact; that took over two days, got told they weren't laying up right & he didn't want to do them, I said if it takes another week so be it, two weeks later nothing, got in contact; was told I'd have them week on wednesday, three weeks later nothing, got in contact after four days of messaging and here we are at last week. Got told they weren't happening because the molds are old and I would be given a refund.

I offered you a refund weeks ago and you said keep trying so I did I pulled another 3 sets out which I still wasn't happy with so I gave you a full refund!!

Sorry for putting this on your thread Barry and I hope a member of admin can remove these next few whinging posts!

There's a distinct difference between "slagging off" & stating facts.

If you read what I typed last I've already said you didn't want to do them after eight odd weeks & my response was if you needed another week then so be it.

As a business you're ill advised to advertise something you can not produce / sell, yet you have done and still continue to do so.

I could not care less about a flat piece of carbon you want to throw at me free of charge as a goodwill gesture to cover up a scuttle / bulkhead I don't have. You just assume it's something I want in my life. Stringing me along for months has resulted in me now having to pay for storage for, as ironic as it sounds pieces of carbon, metal, glassfibre parts because my landlady doesn't believe a word I tell her, so they whole lot has to be removed from her property; including a car missing a wing to finish it.

Maybe some other customers of yours should give a frank account of how you like to operate.

16xe_chris
22-07-14, 08:42 PM
I honestly could write a massive reply to that but I have better things to do in my life!

I ordered a pair of fibreglass wings for my nova and paid via paypal , after nearly 2 months of not receiving them i contacted Chris who said his website hadn't passed him the order - it processed the payment fine though!

i was then told it would be done first thing next week, 3 weeks later they did turn up but the fit wasn't great - and it's not down to the fact they are fibreglass as I took off a set of wide arch winga which fitted perfectly,

Played about with the cav chassis legs, need to shorten it in the middle and build a floor around it. Hopefully have a new floor built soon and have the diff and shafts etc set up! We've got a plan for the rear set up so fingers crossed it goes well!

That's some work to be done baz, who's doing all the alignment on it when it's put together then?

Should be fun though when completed and will look stunning I reckon, bound to be a mag feature ;)

I know it's a while away yet but what interior is this going to have in it?

bazzap8389
01-08-14, 07:58 PM
Unsure yet, this guy has done lots and lots of 4x4 conversions though so should go pretty smoothly!

Interior, nothing lol just be my cage seats and a dash.just the essentials really. Hoping to have it rolling this year though.

Well I'll have my carbon buckets, carbon dash and harnesses. Prob put in the carbon door card bits aswell. I'll see what happens I want it to look good though. Need to get the cash together to get this engine built up too, also need to buy a new exhaust manifold as I've changed my mind on the side exit one.

Can you not make up some mounting points yourself mate? You running a rear cage? Can maybe tie that in to it? Seems silly to still have to go through all that work fitting a rusty cav frame. Probably be quicker to make your own!

Certainly not a show car, just a fast street car that I can take to the track/strip really.

Well I wasn't going to say anything but were making a cradle up for it just using the diff and a few bits off it and making up my own rose jointed wishbones etc and potentially a push rod suspension set up. Time will tell over the next few weeks. I'll have to machine a few parts myself just quite busy at work at the moment. And yeah got a full t45 custom cages one to go in, will need some modifying now though!

Still lots of working out to be done yet going to try a few things before going and making the new wishbones etc first to keep it simple.

dave that cav was a rotten piece of ****. Holes were filled with fibreglass and seam sealer to hide the holes. The repair panels were basically grafted onto rust lol guy at the shop said it would have been more work repairing that over my nova when it first came in!
