Right if you wer to pick a smallblock 8v engine to tune which would it be, 1.3,1.4,1.6
Just interested in which are the best to tune and so on realy, cheers
Why are you limiting the choice??
The smallblock 16v engines are pretty good as standard, and the x18xe1 1.8 small block will have loads of potential, simply because it has 115-125hp as standard.

Well best off to start with a 1.6 then, if power is the main concern. You can get 100 BHP out of a 1.3 with twin carbs, cam etc, but thats your starting point with a standard 1.6
You can do the same modifications to a 1.6 as you would a 1.3 or 1.4 - exhaust, cam, twin 40's or stick with the injection system.

After going smallblock 16v I wouldn't even consider an 8v anymore. More power per pound, newer engines and more of them
a) bin the text typing.
b.) whats the budget (for tuning and insurance etc), whats the intended use, and so on....

Would the best form of tuning for a old 8v engine not be a full rebuild ?
just relapping the valves would probably give a 50% increase on current output lol
