My Mk1 Nova Fling

Here is my MK1 Nova Fling , which is my first car and only had 1 owner , I brought this from a bloke from a little village , which he brought it from an old women , she brought it from new and then it was left in a heated garage for 7 years and only covered 10,000 miles !.The car is in excellent condition all the arches are in excellent condition as well. I have about a year to go until i can drive , so this can give me time to do what i want.

The plans:

Removal of front suspension
Cleaning all inner arches and painting white and wax oil
Cleaning all suspension parts and painting black
Refitting suspension with powerflex bushes
Replacing front brakes with cav 2.0 liter 256mm calipers and discs and braided hoses
Replacing with coilovers
15" white pro race 3 or 15" white compomotive MO alloys
2" or 3" stainless steel back box exhaust
Removing fuel tank, cleaning paint and wax oil
Removing rear axle , cleaning, painting
Refitting with powerflex bushes, plus braided hoses
Removing door cards , wax oil

I will be mostly doing these on many weekends.

Right today i have some time to clean my bottom arms, tie rods and hub assembly , then i went over them with some black paint .Also i have had some time to clean up the arches abit. Looks good :)

Will be doing some more cleaning and painting tomorrow and will be posting some more pics up

Perfect base :) personally I'd stick with some Vauxhall wheels...there are plenty to choose from, fairly cheap and most fit over 256mm brakes no trouble

Right , i finally finished cleaning , painting all of the parts and ready to go back on the car , i haven't had chance to do much as i have be ill all week :( , i have painted some of the arch aswell will get some pics of them later :)

Right this week i was scrubbing the inner arches, brake lines, inside the turrets etc to get all the crud off with the wire brush , which took ages ! , Then waiting for them to dry out properly , i painted all around the arches with white hammerite paint. I have only had the chance to paint the one arch but will do the other one this week probably :) . I think it has come out quite good . Comments please.

Right i havnt had much chance to do anything with the car the , so today i had chance to clean the bulkhead where the battery tray area , I am quite pleased how it come out , Only a little bit of rust but i will be painiting over it this week some time :)

Right took all the rear suspension , fuel tank and rear axle off this week , and i am talking about vinyl the boot and under the doors so its looks like an SR , i am struggling which colour to go for will get pics of the vinyl colour , and will only cost £40 for the lot ! , Also got some orange bumper stripe off eBay to change from the red

Trail fitted my new front bumper , now just need a snowplough to finish the front , also i have polished my rocker cover and just brought a chrome front strut brace , also wax oiled the rear arches

Right people put the rear axle on today , put the rear powerflex bushes on , all new drums and shoes etc , also put the rear coilovers on , haven't put that low because i will have to put back up when the new alloys go on next year , Here are some pictures

Just flicked through this thread and i have to say i think to 'SR rep' it, you will be doing the car an injustice, to fit vinyl over the lower half and to fit a plough on it to hide how clean and shiny the lower half is, would be a crime in my eyes!

I know yhh , but i think the SR rep will look goood , and i can also take the vinyl off if i dont like it , and i dont think the alloys i got will suit the car how it is now but if SR rep look good, But dont worry i am keeping all the parts that i have took off

I think it will look ace tbf, id try it on your new wheels before you commit to the SR idea, as although it will make a good one, and it will be good to see an SR rep rather than a GTE or GSi as most do, im really coming around to the less is more approach, especially on a car as clean as yours!

Big Update - Well i got a call to say my car is finished in the paint shop , Which he has made a brilliant job of it ! , He has painted the front valance , boot , Passenger wing , door , Rear quarter , Will follow will pictures tonight or Tomorrow , Then hopefully will be picking it up on Saturday or Sunday . Then the next thing to do it too paint the rear drums and Fuel tank and stone chip underneath , Then the last is too get sent to get a Stainless steel exhaust made , Or hopefully someone will sell a Magnex One !

Renault 19 TDI 1.9 there WAY quicker then the 306, cheaper, and i bet easier to insure, i had one once, think it was as fast as my GSi with E16SE in.

Nice buys mate.. like the new system, also if that manifold is a sportex one, as it looks to be, DO NOT heat wrap it, as it will just trap moisture in and rot it under the wrap etc and then fall apart..

Never wrap a mild steel paint/coated manifold, the only good manifolds to wrap are one's that are stainless or been ceramic coated, google it all guys.

Fitted the mats today and got all the alloys on and the rear axle to jet wash underneath to get rid of the degreaser and then going to take everything back off to start spraying underneath and then on to the rebuild :)

I degreased the fuel tank yesterday and this morning , ready to take it to a mate , who is going to spray it red ,

Also the yellow straps are starting to peal of , who else could i use or can i get some more straps ? , Or can you not have them ?

Today i went down the unit to get the car out to jet wash underneath to get most of the degrease off , then i fitted the chrome brake fluid cover , then i put it back in and ready to be painted underneath , will start in about 2 weeks as going on hoilday next weekend ,

on my fuel tank i used strips of foam with double sided tape.

Think you can also use some 5mm thick EPDM strips, sorry the link is in Dutch but you'll get the point. They have an adhesive back so you just stick them on the tank.

Wired all the wireing loom for electric windows and everythings works , will fit them when everything else has done , also sending the tank to get sprayed on Saturday will get back in a couple off weeks :)

personally i wouldnt fit foam, as it holds mositure. Ive used "flashband" its normally used on roofs etc, its foil backed bitumen, can be purchased from any builders merchants.

Update - Went to get my tank and straps from the sprayers , I am pleased how they look and will be fitting in a couple of weeks , Tomorrow i will being spraying underneath and then it is just putting everything back together , Hope you like !

Update :

I crack on with it today , I got all the pipes and tank on and the fuel pipe back on , Also got the magnex exhaust on with the new bushes and the sportex four branch manifold on , Tomorrow i will be putting the braided hoses on and the rear axle back on , It will be starting up for the first time tomorrow , then get the alloys back on ,

Update - Today the car was finally started up , The exhaust sounds amazing ! , Get the braided hoses on and also got the rear axle back and on the alloys , Next week will be putting all the bumper back on and its going back home to set up the coilovers and put the new handles on and the electric windows :)

The two small ones were easy but the other one was a nightmare it took for ages to get on , The exhaust is not sitting right so ill have to sort it out when i go down to dad's garage on the ramps , then it will be much easier

Update - Finally finished the car today , got all the bumpers back on and back onto the alloys , Just need to set the suspension up , Had a little go at driving for the first time , Not bad to be fare lol , Going to clean it will get some proper pictures tomorrow , Just need to put handles and electric windows in and all done

Update - Right i've tried to set all the wiring for the electric windows today , what a nightmare , but got there eventually :) , I've got it all wiredup and all the motors work , Drill the holes to get the wiring to the motors Etc , just need to fit the window regulators now
