Well done to Andy and the guys at RS Tuning, I hope tomorrow goes well for him.

Looks like it wanted to escape off the roller, awesome power output, I wonder how many mpg he gets lol

strange shape power curve :/

Correct me if I'm wrong but, Isn't it where its hitting near full power quite low down the rev range?

claire6069
28-03-11, 02:35 PM
hasnt he managed to crack a block before though with alot less boost running through it?

NOV4_SPORT

Wow, looks well impresive, power low down in the rev range, most likley due to it only being used for quarter mile times and sprints iam guessing ?

Apparently ran 9.93 (iirc) down at santa pod yesterday before popping the head gasket.

some more info from aoc it got 620bhp on the rollers at the end of the night and his suspect head gasket is not it a lot worse.

and for those that was ask about the graph and the damage he has done

There is a flat spot on the graph and you can hear it on the vid, did that get sorted (been asked about it elsewhere)

it was a boost spike but we sorted it out..

its cracked the block so time for a rebuild doh

and hear his run at 620bhp

Can anyone explain how it grips so well of the line?

Combination of good tyres and a diff or something else?

mowgli
31-03-11, 02:07 PM
drag racing tyres run at stoopid temperatures, they also run quite soft, so they put down a huge footprint, then the shear speed of the spinning wheels combined with the rubber create grip. the trick is managing the wheelspin to maintain maximum traction... and totally flooring it is not necessarily the best idea.. until it is moving that is

New doner engine for a nova maybe?? lol

MK999
31-03-11, 03:38 PM
Drag tyres also pull in a pure newtonian impact force into the equation, if you've ever watched them in slow mo the leading edge literally smacks the floor and you can see it rebound/ripple on the back of the tyre. Being that fat, soft and generally huge they'll also balloon out as the car gets quicker, so it starts running on less tyre at a larger diameter towards the end of the run.

Lighter + more aerodynamic than most other Vauxhall's = obvious choice

tigras weigh tons compared to a nova.... that back window affair is about 50kg

Nova isn't really aerodynamic though is it, even by yesteryear's standards. I'd imagine Specky has saved weight by replacing the rear window with a plastic one.

i wonder if his class allows for ice packing the i/c? that would release some more hp... his fastest time was on a night run at the pod, when the air is much cooler.

MK999
31-03-11, 05:07 PM
if you watch the video, it doesn't have a back window... at all lol

Andy
31-03-11, 05:11 PM
a tigra is better aerodynamic and weight distributed compared to a nova, which shares its aerodynamical characteristics with these........

So on road tyres, he would be no where near 9s?

Didn't he do a 10 on road tyres?

I thought so.

i think you'll find he runs on those massive comedy wacky race type wheels up the strip, cos of needing high gearing.. he probably has a set with a few grooves cut in them for class rules.....

Would love to see what figure that engine was making on a proper dynomometer (minus g'box etc), should be quickly approaching 660hp now?

Sorry mate that cannot be said (due to so many variables in gear clusters, clutch slip, bearing friction etc ), the only realy way to get a true figure is a direct fit dynomometer ;)

Another point is that is a duel roller dyno, this also increases friction beyond what is seen in real life situations, dont get me wrong it may have been very recently calibrated leading to a good figure, but it still wont be exact, thats all im saying ;)

Jonlem
01-04-11, 10:21 AM
To be fair the DD setup is very accurate within a few hp of dyno figures.

They all run the same calibration so if you took the same car to 3 different garages the figures should all be the same pending that the air temp hasn't changed ( which ofcourse it always will of )

The engine is 620 @ the fly, it won't gain much on a dyno at all, if anything, nor should it.

01-04-11, 01:42 PM
correct me if im wrong here, but having the bonnet up whilst on the dyno releases alot of heat from the engine bay and so would affect the bhp as it will be running cooler than when its actually being driven - with the bonnet down?

Adam
01-04-11, 04:06 PM
Impressive as ever.
Does anyone know what sort of weight the car is?

And crossing the line at 140+ mph will mean aerodynamics will be having an effect on things, so probably wise that it aint in a nova tbh lol

Not really, just help account for the fact there's not a 140mph wind cooling it, not to mention the ram air effect specky will get having his filter sat in a high pressure area.
