Seeing those has made me glad i got my hoses in black as yours just stand out too far for my liking, they seem to sit there with a massive sign saying 'hey look at me, here i am' lol

yeah kind of obvious looking back, but i removed these hoses from another xe nova plumbed in like this, so gave it a try. turned out to be a bad choice lol

Your's really fit with the look you were going for whereas I want the outside to look like a nice standard SR, and under the bonnet to be all 'ooh shiney!'

Got to agree with spud but they do look good nevertheless :)

Cheers mate :thumb:

If I'd spent £70 on 3 hoses I wouldn't wanna hide them lol

This is exactly it lol

MK999

Actually I'd want to hide them from the parents, or at least say they cost me a tenner at a show 3 years ago lol

Lewis.
22-04-12, 09:10 PM
I'm not sure my purchase of silicone hoses is anything to do with my parents lol although my dad does reckon they look pretty good lol

22-04-12, 09:10 PM
Parents never need to know what it actually costs to mess about with cars lol

Lewis.
22-04-12, 09:14 PM
my old man and I regularly discuss the spiraling costs of these money pits, then laugh when we realise I've spent enough to have bought a proper car by now lol

Lmfao, i certainly aint telling the rents how much i spent on my hoses, and it wasnt £70 ill tell you that lol

She's been tucked away for a month now, so it's time to give her some pre show loving :) wheels were removed and delivered to the bodyshop to be returned (colour is still secret lol) and I'm expecting them back Tuesday, so in the mean time, we flatted the paint prior to machine Polishing it, as it's still full of orange peel from when it was sprayed last year lol

I'm on my iPhail and have no idea how to put Photos on so they will come tomorrow lol :thumb:

thanks Dan, saves me the hassle lol

yes Benn, it's a strange sensation washing your car with wet and dry lol

Today I bought some more 2K thinners and a bit more wet and dry so I can paint the tailgate and underside of the bonnet (then it's all been done) and for once that's done, a new polishing mop head, and found my G3 and G10 so I can give it a proper polish and have a shiny car again (exactly a year this coming Sunday since it was sprayed lol)

right, first real update for quite a while.
Dan and I have realised that it seems to have become a tradition to wait until the weekend before PVS to paint our cars, and this year is no exception lol

went round to his on Saturday and started to prep the tailgate. got screen out, spoiler, wiper, handle off, and Cookie machine polishing it
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/IMG_0086.jpg

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/IMG_0088.jpg

then Dan got a bit rough with it
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/IMG_0089.jpg

blocked it down and it made an attempt to rain, so chucked the glass back in and went home
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/IMG_0090.jpg

then yesterday, Dan came round and we got the tailgate in high build
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/IMG_0091.jpg

then today, I blocked the high build down, and Dan put the top coat on. Had to do a couple more areas too, so masked them all up
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/IMG_0096.jpg

Are you spraying a cm deep line across the top of the door? Interested to see how that turns out. Nice work though, cracking on with it.

Lewis.
04-06-12, 01:50 PM
Thank you :)

And Yeah we are, it was missed last year and primer isn't a good look lol

There's Plenty of paint on the edge so we should be able to blend it in. I hope it comes out okay

Balley
04-06-12, 04:38 PM
As lewis says, it should blend in okay, If not we will do the hole door.

Lewis.
04-06-12, 10:12 PM
Just got home so unmasked it to see what it was like. Pleasantly surprised with the results. the top of the door and the bonnet wont be any problem, the tailgate will be okay, but the wing has some rather enormous runs right across all the swage lines, so will require some attention
(sorry if the pictures are a bit enormous, but having 'upgraded' to an iPhail, the camera is utter shoite, so I used the SLR instead. long exposure and no tripod ftw lol)

Oh, and I got my wheels back last week, they've been on a day or two now, and I really like the colour, Will look even better once the car is polished, as they look odd with the matt paint lol

And Balley got me a new tailgate vinyl for my birthday (cheers man!) which will of course be going on once the tailgate has been flatted and polished.

It's fast for a 1.4 ;)
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/DSCF0414.jpg

I'll see what the weathers like tomorrow before I say what I'm going to do!

Lewis.
08-06-12, 10:46 PM
a picture-less update, but one full of win lol

Took the Nova to work on Tuesday afternoon, and have spent the last 3 evenings on it until about 11pm after work. I'm nackered, but it's done! My boss has resprayed the wing as it was just shoite, and I've machine polished the whole car, and it actually looks pretty good now. I've fitted the new tailgate vinyl, and my recaro's.

so all I need to do in the morning is wash and wax it, and she's ready for PVS :)

Connor

Tbf, if its the same guys that were there last year and ran Porter's cav turbo, theyre actually pretty good, and they strap the cars down underneath, granted the dyno isnt fastened to the floor, but the cars are at least, secured to it!

And they gave pretty accurate figures on his cav, and also identified a few boost problems for him which he then rectified at home after following their advice:thumb:

But nothing would actually please you though would it? something would always be wrong :p lol They seem pretty accurate tbh, all the brand new standard VXR's were producing standard power, how strange eh?

I see where you're coming from, but they were strapped down underneath, and it didn't move a bit tbh. and I hardly think the whole lot is going to fall over.

yup, boost is coming

Jake, it will be run with the current F20

and only Benn has spotted the vital clue - the 5th injector

LET's go for absolutely ridiculous money, so this seems the logical solution. 5th injector runs with it's own ECU, based on a rising rate boost pressure switch.

So I had a little hole in the bottom of the O/S/F chassis leg near the out rigger. As the MOT is fast approaching I thought I should get it sorted. So today I cut it out and replaced with some 1.6mm steel sheet. Nice and strong now and I managed to get rid of 99% of the rot doing it this way. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170522/6a0d09608ac2eb86eef13464b4a2359c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170522/0bedaf09c608c86d142bc630e1a77473.jpg

I bought a Kemso off eBay. I know they are not the greatest name but they make good pressure and performs well for the price. It was listed for a BMW 325i. The old one was the cheapest Chinese pump on eBay at the time and it has lasted three years with an XE just fine.

I had a damaged O/S head light on the shelf, so instead of scrapping it I put it to use by making a cold air intake for drag racing.

Finished in Upol Etch primer lacquered as it was the nearest thing I had to my bumper paint! In fairness it came out well so I can't complain. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170529/532c6cfbceee0ae8cefe7400078990c7.jpg

Today I set to making a custom strut brace.

Drilled the holes in the strut plates. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171125/56b6674249acb077f2945e8ea0f3c054.jpg

Welded on the reinforcement pieces.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171125/29227f6986be2ad2d62efc2b74d3e7bb.jpg

After a bit of cutting and welding I was left with this. Tacked onto place ready to be welded up properly.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171125/f071574d5e62f2f556aa2828caf74eaf.jpg

Trial fit after being welded up, and ground down ready for paint.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171125/44cea0999d5321a2356549ba1a730b49.jpg

And painted in the same wrinkle paint as the cam cover. Very happy with the results.

So it's been a while since I last updated. Basically I have been very busy with other hobbies, commitments and work.

Some already know I have still been busy rectifying faults and improving the old girl.

I wanted a different exhaust and the only way to do that was to fit an internal shifter. So that's what I did.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180320/6c4970dc0b805ab5950e39681912e620.jpg

While doing that I found this..

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180320/7c695a4975769c7c658ebe34e7852ea1.jpg

But I got on with the job in hand.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180320/e8cc8a6cb9fe3591c7c552d43760ccdc.jpg

I wanted to raise it slightly to help with gear changes etc. I made this little platform that did the job nicely and also makes it easier to put back to standard if I ever choose too.

Now it's fitted and works, just ordered one last bend to make the loud part point downwards.

I am looking forward to trying it on the road, basically when the valve is closed the exhaust runs three boxes and slowly tapers down to a two inch system.
With the valve open it runs from a three inch down pipe through a 2.5x12 inch box and then out the valve and that's it.

Performance should increase and if nothing else it will sound mega.

Dan.

So, it's now back together at last. Quite happy with the overall look of the internal shifter.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/07ab85f069d6041fb6ea77d9aa519b71.jpg

And I haven't had to cut the carpet at all. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/e0cb1fec3e21ba25f2940d5bc4de62cd.jpg

The shifter feels nice and fairly direct. Being higher helps too!
I am having an issue with the rose jointed linkage catching the steering rack in 5th gear so I will need to modify that slightly.

I have since taken the car to work and cleaned up the underside.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180330/1d1d848d864e6e5e1376e48d7fde2c67.jpg

Once cleaned up with a wire wheel and sander I etch primed the underside.

So I have been busy once again.

Since my engine has been on solid mounts the gear linkage has caught the steering rack going into 5th gear. This was making it very hard to select in anger. Not good for 1/4 mile times!
I looked into this and decided my best solution was to shorten my linkage by 3mm.
Out came the grinder and welder again.

Next up was the gearbox, I wanted to ditch the WR 5th gear in favour of a standard set up. So while doing this I fitted new seals and gaskets.

And back together. Not the best job but needed doing.

A little trip to my Dads

Machined to an interference fit,

And pressed together making it exactly 416mm long. Perfect!

Out came the welder again. Plug and seem welded, I can't see this going anywhere.

Built back up.

Refitted and tested.

Gears feel loads better now, steering is nice and direct and best of all it drives so much better. You can accelerate hard now without massive amounts of torque steer pulling you all over the road. Very happy with the overall results.
