Skirts should be ok once cleand.

02-06-11, 07:36 PM
I have a full set of clips, if you want them?
No updates????

zeifer33
02-06-11, 08:07 PM
Sure Matey, no updates?

Lewis.
03-06-11, 07:39 PM
sorry about the lack of updates, but its because i havn't actually done anything, as i've been seriously lacking in motivation :( to the point where I very nearly sold it this week.

the paint is hopefully being finished this weekend, as i've managed to borrow a huge workshop for the weekend to do it in.

I now hate the bike carbs, its now running like a bag of sh*te, and wont rev past 4k, feels like a bloody 1.0, and is down to about 20 mpg too  so the pierberg is going back on just as soon as I can find the parts i 'doctored' to fit the bike carbs lol so if anyone has a throttle cable, upper alternator bracket, and servo pipe, please let me know!

so this weekend the plan is to realise its only a week untill PVS, then panic and work like a mad man to get it done in time lol

oh and Tom, i'll have those clips, PM on its way :thumb:

zeifer33
03-06-11, 09:27 PM
Quiet friend, why not start over again with different settings for bike carbs? I do not know if 20 mpg is high, because here we use another measure but perhaps too much gas is coming and the engine floods. I see you unhappy with your car, but Do not sell the nova, everything in life is hopeless. Just need to keep looking for the bug and have patience.:thumb:

tom reid
03-06-11, 09:29 PM
Don't give up on the carbs too soon, of course you'll have problems, as you do with anything mechanical, bring it over and we'll have a looksee.

Lewis.
04-06-11, 10:16 PM
cheers fellas, the enthusiasm comes in waves, and today i'm tripping lol got a mega update coming as soon as PB works

zeifer: 20 is pretty poor tbh, nearer 30 is average and would be more acceptable. the bug is back though, and i'm beginning to love it again lol

Tom: i've found number 3 slide isn't lifting again, so i'll attend to that asap and see how we go from there. if it doesnlt improve i'll pop down before PV if there's time :)

Balley
04-06-11, 10:23 PM
Might want some panels before you go to toms..

Lewis.
04-06-11, 10:35 PM
so today was panic day. with just 6 days until PVS, 4 of which i'm working I decided to get on with the respray lol

To make life easier, I called on a favour from my Boss. We (as in the company I work for) have just moved premesis, so our old building is empty, so he has kindly let us use it for the weekend to get the Nova done. Win

So I got the old girl in
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011618.jpg

strippy strippy
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011622.jpg

removed the shoite aftermarket leccy windows. keep you fit windows are the order of the day!
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011623.jpg

sorted out the variable height bench
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011620.jpg

glass out
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011624.jpg

windscreen out
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011630.jpg

glass and trims out the doors
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011631.jpg

then balley came along to help, and spray his wings and bonnet
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011632.jpg

made a door hinge pin punch from a bonnet prop. ghetto vice ftw lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011634.jpg

started getting the doors off. and worn hinge gen? lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011635.jpg

and with a lot of hammering and grinding, both doors came off

hinges are not quite intact lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011638.jpg

then we did some more sanding, and decided it was time for tea. PNG mini meet
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011639.jpg

didn't have any cooking implements. so improvised with a filler spreader, and 2 screw drivers lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011640.jpg

back to work, and sanded the roof and pillars. quarter is being filled tomorrow

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011646.jpg

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011649.jpg

and this is how she stands now
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011647.jpg

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/04062011648.jpg

So far we have done:

removed doors, wings, glass, tailgate, bumpers, lights, dash.
rubbed down bonnet, roof, pillars, quarters, and doors

still to do:
fill NSR quarter
prepare wings, bumpers, quarters
paint dash
mask it all up
paint
then try and remember how it goes back together lol

I've got the building until I go back to work on monday, so Sunday is going to be a fooking long night :( it may have to be re assembled on monday night, but i'd rather avoid that if possible

anyway, more pictures tomorrow, hopefully showing some nice black paint! :d

P.S. my lungs are full of dust :tard:

Thanks you everyone :) its responses like these that make it all worth while :)

Scott, no i've not painted the skirts, they will go on in their natural finish for PV, then when i get time i'm going to paint them, the front and rear splitters, wheels and spoiler in a nice anthracite to tie them all together

Curt, thanks mate, i'm just really glad i could rescue her! looking forwards to PV even more. what days are you gonna be there?

Lewis.
08-06-11, 12:31 AM
so heres last nights, and tonights updates, i was so fooked when i got in last night i couldn't write a thing lol

MONDAY
went round the unit, and unmasked it, was the first time i'd seen the paint in daylight too
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/06062011700.jpg

put the front end back together
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/06062011704.jpg

also refitted the dash, looks so much better in black. Deano came round to fit my other windscreen that i bought last month, but pointed out that it was govered in grinding spatter so was fubared. pissed as i never noticed when i bought it, as it was dark.

also got both doors on the hinges, then went home at about midnight

TUESDAY

got the tail gate on. its not been painted, as its only got 1 working heater element, so i'll get a new one and paint that up later.
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/07062011705.jpg

all the glass back in. I reckon there is more work in just refitting all the trims and glass channels to the doors, than in everything else i've done lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/07062011706.jpg

Dans was lonely outside lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/07062011708.jpg

decided to call it a night at that, and went home

I ordered a windscreen this morning, brand new, top tint for £65+VAT and they keep them in stock :d win. so Deano is coming back to fit that tomorrow night.

other than that, it just needs the wing mirrors fitting, door cards, and rear quarters with their new speakers, and wire up the amp, then she's done! It will just need a polish then.

so hopefully it will all go well tomorrow!

My brand spanking new windscreen was delivered this afternoon, so as i was terrified of touching it, I asked a mate of mine who's a windscreen fitter to fit it for me. I'm well pleased with it.
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/08062011712.jpg

I also fitted one of those internal arials, which is nicely hidden behind the top tint, and hid all the wires in the screen seal.

Also fitted the amp to the back of the rear seat, and wired it all in, just need to fit the rear cards tomorrow and the speakers and were all done :)

Fankoo everyone :d Balley and Robert came over again tonight, and helped get it done :) between them they have given it a damn good polish, and its looking pretty respectable now.

Whilst they were doing that, I've trimmed and fitted my new rear quarters, fitted the 6x9's and wired up the amp. so for the first time since I've owned the car, I now have a working stereo :) win!

So now the final list before we leave for PV at midday tomorrow is:

Wire up the fag lighter
attatch front number plate
hoover it out
wash the wheels
pack all the camping crap into it

I am so excited for PV now :d :d :d

we will make it, you forgot you need to make it run on all 4 LOl

oh yeah, quite important that lol

Lewis.
13-06-11, 07:44 PM
was up at 7 on friday to get it finished before PVS, it included fitting the center console, painting and fitting the dash shelf and kick panels, sill trims, mirror casings, wiring up the fag lighter, and making it run on 4 cylinders lol

finally got finished at 11:15, and left at 11:30 lol

it made it to PVS with no problems, and looked reasonably presentable on the stand too!
took a few pics of it with Balley and Cookie's Nova in the Campsite on friday

Ran it down the strip on saturday, and got the slowest time of the weekend lol a 21.56 with a terminal of 58mph lol  thats slower than the frontera that ran in the evening lol

So the plans for the future of the Nova: remove 1.4 engine and place in bin. purchase XE and fit into Nova :thumb: just need to sort out the appropriate funds and I shall be on the look out for a decent XE :)

Your right they might benefit from a tweek on the rollers, but I've already improved it no end by replacing the silicone hoses (see below)
It was nice to meet you too matey, and thank you :)

Lewis.
14-06-11, 09:05 PM
Whilst messing about at PVS, Balley discovered that I still had a major air leak somewhere, which may explain the 21 second quarter lol The silicone hose I got with the carbs was not fuel proof, so the petrol had attacked it and made it go porus, so I popped into Roose Motorsport (It's great having them so close :d) and asked for some fluro lined hose. They didn't have any in stock, but said they would make some for me there and then! hows that for customer service? lol :thumb:

but most importantly, it goes far better now its not drawing in all that air. its still got a flat spot between 3500 and 4000rpm, but it now pulls much better over that. all in all, money well spent :thumb:

That because I went to Allwoods last night for them, as I forgot to get some before lol 40 mile round trip, took 40 minutes in the bike, including a 5 minute wait to be served :thumb: no messing lol

Thanks mate, was nice to meet you at the weekend :thumb: They were £18, which I reckon is pretty good, especially as they were custom made.

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/28062011831.jpg

so first off, a nice easy job...

flip key time!
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/28062011825.jpg

pulled out the blade
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/28062011826.jpg

chopped off the ears
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/28062011827.jpg

files the end narrower, and thinner, and fitted to the fob. the original is a loose fit and is retained with a roll pin, i thought that was unnecsasary, so made it an interferance fit and pressed it in.
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/28062011828.jpg

then it just needed a bit of careful trimming of the case to allow the blade to fold in
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/28062011830.jpg

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/28062011829.jpg

shame its an opel key, but I bought it over a year ago for my corsa. dont think they do this shape key with a square griffin on it lol

29-06-11, 09:18 AM
R click do the kits, but on them you can use the blank key and get it cut to match yours.. Like what you've done tho.

Lewis.
29-06-11, 09:28 AM
cheers dude :) i'd never heard of them before, might look into that in the future, remote C/L would be nice. i do prefere the shape of the vauxhall fob though

Benn
29-06-11, 09:48 AM
R click kits use the Insigna looking fob, and do all the remote c/l too.

Lewis.
29-06-11, 10:01 AM
ah didn't see they did different ones, only saw the massive brick looking one first lol other ones look audi ish http://www.rclick.co.uk/popup_image.php?pID=672

ooh it even works with existing C/L :)

Benn
29-06-11, 11:09 AM
Ah they've changed them a bit. Did look my GM style. You can pick the badge for it too.. Sharon SR has one for her Nova, works on the remote cl and pops the boot.

Lewis.
29-06-11, 01:52 PM
ah fair do's mate, thanks for pointing me in there direction though :thumb:

another nice easy job today:

gayhat coin holder:
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/29062011832.jpg

replaced with a clock :)
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/29062011833.jpg

all the wiring was there waiting too, even though it was down by the clutch pedal because i've had the dash out lol
only problem is that the clock doesn't actually work  so i'm going to throw that at the person I bought it from, and get another lol anyone got anything?

Lewis.
02-07-11, 12:15 AM
This is where is starts to get interesting :thumb:

Went and picked up a Calibra today, it will make a lovely donor lol
It's actually a Tickford Calibra, its number 4 of just 25 made, so I do feel a bit bad about killing it, but it's only a barge so meh lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/01072011837.jpg

going to rape it of this
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/01072011842.jpg

and this
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/01072011841.jpg

engine seems a really good one, sarted first turn after 4 months of being stood, and another year before that. no rattles, no leaks, no smoke :) It does rev to 8k RPM though, and revs up like a 2 stroke, so I dont know if its had something done to it before, but I will find out when i get it stripped.

Lewis.
03-07-11, 08:16 PM
Had a good look over the Donor yesterday morning, and i'm even more pleased with it now.
It is actually an early 20XEJ so forged internals, already has a single V bottom pulley, and had a metal plug cover too :d lol so much win

it's also rotten as ****, so nobody tell me off for cutting up a Tickford lol
just one example:
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/02072011846.jpg

I also fitted my skirts yesterday afternoon, I think they really set it off :)

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/02072011847.jpg

then i washed it, waxed it, polished the glass inside and out, and set off for Billing this morning. proper good day! saw some lovely cars, took some good pictures, and even spent a while talking to the guys from total vauxhall, who took some pictures and seemed pretty interested :) good times

Paid £300 for her Connor, so I'll get at least £200 back in scrap, possibly sell £100 worth of stuff off it, and It's paid for itself :) then I've got my bike carb setup to sell, so this conversion should actually see me make a profit lol

well the engine nwill be out friday night, then i'll weigh the shell in saturday morning. then I reckon i'll get the 1.4 out next week (cos i'm still off work :d) and get it stitch welded etc.
my deadline for it to be on the road, and completely done is 30th July :tard: i'd best get cracking then!

ever heard of a Tickford Capri? Well it's done by the same people. This is number 4 of a run of just 25. It's essentially a normal early cally, with a shonkey grey and cream alcantara interior (which has been replaced with black leather at some point, as someone obviously had more taste than Tickford lol) so its now not really any different to a normal cally, other than the log book says Tickford Calibra, with no mention of Vauxhall.

nah these seats will fit fine mate, Balley had cally leather in his for a good while, the only issue is a slight loss of leg room in the back, but thats not really a problem

time to join the mega-understeer-into-a-wall-and-die club then :thumb:lol

Fabulous!

So there will definitely swap?

thanks mate, and yeah It's definitely going to happen, hopefully within the month!

ryansnova
05-07-11, 03:18 PM
cars looking good now mate ;)

hows the hand?

Lewis.
05-07-11, 03:34 PM
cheers bud :thumb: :)
The hand is coming along nicely, its only 2 weeks on now, but its healed well, the stitch holes are the most visable thing.
But having said that, even though it looks okay, i've got almost no grip at all, as my thumb muscles were quite badly wasted as it took so long to have the operation done  It might be up to a year before I get any real strength back :( so i've done everything left handed today, which has been very slow...

ryansnova
05-07-11, 04:26 PM
thats sh*t mate, i hope the hand gets better ;)

i like the plans of the nova but everybody is puting ex's in nova's now but i would have stuck with the bike carb'd 1.4 but thats just my thoughts lol

Lewis.
05-07-11, 04:43 PM
ta, me too

yeah I know it's the most overdone mod for Nova's, Like speedlines and GSI kits (lol) but there is a reason for that, which I never understood untill I went in one a few weeks ago: they are silly quick, and totally lethal lol I thought the calibra was fast when I drove it home, so I can't wait for that in the Nova.
And in all seriousness, the 1.4 was dog slow, and bike carbs are awfull things, quite possibly the worst thing you could do to your car (IMO) unreliable, thirsty, and worse performance than the pierberg lol (wanna buy them? lol)

Lewis.
06-07-11, 11:33 PM
oh really was it hard? did u have to screw into the sills?

nah its actually fairly simple, just offer the shark fin up and mark where its clip needs to be along the car, bearing in mind you have about an inch to play with, fit the shark fin, then do the same with the skirt. just line the bottom edge of the clip up with the first corner on the sill and its spot on. only took us/them 20 minutes :) and yeah, I used tec-screws cos they are easy. at least the sills and arches are solid enough to screwinto now lol

Thanks buddy :thumb::) I'll be honest, my initial reaction was to scrap it, then I saw sense and just got the welder out. and now I know that it is completely solid, and will last me a good few years :)
and thanks, I cant wait to get it in, and XE's are definitely ftw, smallblock lovers just dont know it yet lol

i'll keep the updates coming, hopefully get the engine out friday

its currently running -40mm fisher price, my first springs and shocks, and 256x20 corsa sport brakes. when the XE goes in i've got some 2 litre calipers and green stuff pads to go on with these discs. i'll probably keep an eye out for some second hand coilovers for the front, spax or gaz or something good, and get some correct poundage springs for them too.

its great isn't it? couldn't chop it up to much because we had to tow it to the scrappy lol it looks well rough when we were towing it, and the chopped drive shafts sticking out the cv's were banging about the whole way there lol

looking good bet you cant wait to get it in the nova :)

really cant wait now, just need a few more bits :)

Good stuff :) Bang for buck, you can't beat an XE imo

thanks :) and exactly why i'm doing it, for about a £200 spend, there is no other mod that will give me a 200% increase in power lol

You left the alloys on

There's loads on that you could have taken off and sold on...

I know i'm pissed off about that. it had some stupid allen wheel bolts on it, and at 9pm the night before it was due to be weighed in, I had nothing to take them off with, so they had to stay on.

what else was worth saving?

ryansnova
11-07-11, 04:45 PM
you should have put some steels on it mate and got an extra £45-£50 for the alloy wheels

Lewis.

Mike
11-07-11, 05:03 PM
Rear disc's if it had them, worth a few pennys. ATEs if youve not already robbed them, probably the headlights & maybe some panels too?

Lewis.
11-07-11, 05:14 PM
the problem was having to keep it towable, and i couldn't get the wheels off, so couldnt have the brakes, otherwise i would have. every panel was manky and nobody really buys panels or lights in my experience, so they would just end up hanging about for months then being thrown away lol

Dervy

11-07-11, 08:58 PM
Nasty wheels lol the crusher was too good for them lol

Pity you didn't get the brakes tho, hope you got a set of ATE's on or to go on, or you can add not stopping to cornering to problems when the XE is fitted lol

Lewis.
11-07-11, 09:05 PM
i've already got a set of ATE's sat in the shed, but they have EBC pads in them so they'll still not actually stop me lol. hopefully they will fit under the SR 3 spokes, at ET47.5 they should do :)

zeifer33
12-07-11, 09:17 AM
I think that the 15´s are the best wheels for a nova, behind these are much space for a brakeslol

Lewis.
14-07-11, 10:53 PM
aye it would be far easier with some 15's, and when funds allow it may well be wearing some comp MO's :) but the way things are going, that looks fairly distant

Lewis.
14-07-11, 11:26 PM
did a bit of work today, but not much as my wrist is giving me problems still

first slid the engine to the waiting crane
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/14072011992.jpg

and got it on the crane
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/14072011994.jpg

inspection plate on an F20? didn't know such things existed
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/14072011995.jpg

drained some oil
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/14072011996.jpg

box off
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/14072011998.jpg

clutch is foobared, which is annoying as its another £80 i don't have
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111000.jpg

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111001.jpg

so bolted it up to the stand. the arms I made a couple of years ago came in handy again
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111002.jpg

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111003.jpg

and done. took me ages with one arm lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111004.jpg

then got the manifold and loom off, and starter and water pipes

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111010.jpg

cleaned it up a bit, and fitted an 8 valve sump gasket. never seen the cork XE one before, it's a sh*t design! no wonder they leak lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111011.jpg

back on and shiney :) hopefully oil tight as well
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111012.jpg

degreased the block and wire wheeled it. ready for paint tomorrow
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111013.jpg

doesn't look too bad under here, considering how long it's been stood :)
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/140720111014.jpg

thats all for now, got plenty more to clean tomorrow, including the gear box

Progress is going to be slow from now, as my wrist is still giving me problems, so I'm unlikely to be returning to work next week, that means SSP for a while, at best. worst case is up to a year to get my full grip back, in which case i'm out of a job :( life sucks.

redtop ftw awesome thread mate

oh yes, can't beat a valver :) and thank you

16-07-11, 10:53 PM
this is yesterdays work, as I didn't do anything to it today

firstly, went to get the bottom pulley off. and theres always one stubborn one  it resisted all attempts of chiseling too
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111015.jpg

so drilled the head off
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111020.jpg

then it just unscrewed with my fingers. bloody thing
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111021.jpg

then took the belt off, looks plenty old
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111024.jpg

tensioner and idler have chucked all their grease out
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111023.jpg

back plate off, and then painted the head
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111025.jpg

and painted the block. much better :)
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111026.jpg

cleaned the back plate up, no need for paint which is nice
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111027.jpg

stuck it back on, painted the cam pulleys too. they are only for my pleasure though, as the cover has no windows lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111028.jpg

painted and refitted the starter motor and alternator bracket, and the water pipe
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111029.jpg

spent 2 hours with a toothbrush and a spray bottle of brake cleaner and got the inlet manifold looking spanky clean. who needs soda blasting eh?
wopped it back on
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/150720111031.jpg

also fitted the throttle body, alternator, ICV, and the loom, but i don't seem to have a picture :tard:

just need to buy a cambelt kit and a clutch and i can get on then, but I don't dare buy them yet as its uncertain if i'll be back at work so if i'm still gonna be on SSP they will have to wait.

got my covers back from being sand blasted today. they came up pretty well, much better than trying to sand the feckers lol

also took the breather baffle out the cam cover, and had him blast the inside while he was at ithttp://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/210720111047.jpg

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/220720111054.jpg

bit of a wierd pattern where the original paint was bubbling, but a bit of 800 grit has sorted it out nicely.

I also got James at work to machine the vee for the PAS pump off the bottom pulley. only cost me £2 as I pay him in sandwiches lol
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/220720111055.jpg

thats pretty much it for now, as the cam belt kit is wrong so cant fit that. I asked for an early XE kit, so they supplied an X20XEV kit, with one idler missing lol lol lol they really are spastics sometimes :wall:

gear stick gaitor? i've got one, but it has a rip, so probably no good.

clutch was juddering as it was soaked in oil. there was next to nothing in the box, when I pulled the shafts, nothing ran out lol input shaft seal has gone

oh god i've almost forgotten about this

things are happening, but slowly.
theres a fair bit more rot than i thought, and there are far too many distractions so nothing seems to get done for ages.

NS leg is repaired and stitch welded, but cant find any pics

bought a sheet of steel on wednesday. its 2mm, a choice i'm beginning to regret as its so fooking thick
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu307/hay_lewis_68/cars/Nova%20rebuild/180820111412.jpg

made a cardboard template, and cut some steel for the alternator recess and tacked it up

welder is now being gay again, either the wire snarls up, the gas trigger jams or it starts doing sh*tty welds, cos it gets too hot as its only got a 0.1% duty cycle or something crap like that

dash is also out to weld the battery tray and bulkhead, which looks like an absolute b*stard to repair, so i'm all :d.

cheers mate, I'm just being held up by my sh*t equipment now :(

my el-cheapo welder has now packed up, I suspect the transformers are breaking down, as it is okay for about a minute, then the moment you try and put any heat into it, it stops beign smooth and goes all spattery. moral of the story: don't buy cheap welders lol

so a mate at work who is our tame welder, is going to finish off the job, so this week i'm gonna get it rolling and get it over to his workshop. just need to find the cash now :(

Looking good mate get a shift on with it want to go out in it before winter comes lol or you driving through winter to? I might be totally wrong but you might need to take the top lip out that bit you welded in on the chassis leg coz mine still catches on the top lip of it a wee bit! Might just be mine but it's an easy fix if it does catch! Oh and my brother wants that manifold if you still got it don't know we're he mentioned it to you lately?

I was going to say the same as honie5, grind out that top part of the box section so it's flush to the RH turret for more clearance. Looking good tho!

scott.parker
22-08-11, 09:10 PM
Yeah it's mainly that top edge that would catch, looks alright dude, if i was you i would just lob the fire wall out permanently, BUT if you like them then get some new thin steel 0.5mm/1mm and make a new one imo then reuse the old?

I was debating weather to lose the firewall, but the only thing stopping me is the wiper motor, as i donlt think a single wiper would suit the look i'm going for. i reckon we'll work around it as necassary, and repair what we need to. cheers :)

continued with the last of the welding today, did a little patch on the corner of the top panel, finished the battery tray, did behind the passenger side turret, and did the passenger side splash guard.
didn't take many pictures for some reason
