ha i just done this, you need contents cover, building the landlord should have
I think it varies greatly, your best off asking your landlord what cover, if any, he already has arranged, then take out your own cover accordingly

Private or through an agency?
As said, contents cover if you decide you want it. Worth having though really.
Don't forget trivial stuff like TV license!
[edit] Whens the house warming party anyway lol

The misses and i rented 3 different places before taking the plunge and buying.
Take meter readings the day you move in, just for the record if the utilities companies try it on. If you get a checklist for damage, fixtures and fittings etc, check it over, make notes and keep a copy.
As said remember TV license, council tax etc.
Basically cover your ****, then enjoy being in you "own" home!
Good luck.
Good luck with it all, hopefully me and my girlfriend will be buying our first place this year. Excited already!

Good luck.the estate agent does an inventory and meter readings on the day we move in. not that there is fack all there, theres no damage either as its fully redecorate, new carpets, new kitchen, new bathroom, new conservatory lol

found it through an agent, wether the contract is then with the agent or landlord i dunno yet
Dont NEED any insurances.
Just Ring Tv licence (w4nkers)
Council tax,
Electric, gas and water and give the reading as soon as you arrive.
Other than that, enjoy shafting where and when you want, also crapping with the door open etc etc lol

Contract may well be with the landlord but via the agency. Our last place was done this way. We paid the agency a fee, then dealt with the landlord. Worked out well. Hope it does for you too.

seems simple enough then :D. well with the little one being due in 8 weeks it will be a case of shafting simply when we can lol.

They are rich as fook tho so im hoping if im really nice they will let me holiday in their house in the bahamas! :thumb:

Internet! Find out if there's a BT landline there, or if the previous residents had one as then you could wangle out of the connection fee.
from my experience of renting, take a stack of photos of every room & get them printed off...
then when it comes to leaving, you have everything properly sorted.
i had a landlord try to stop my deposit because of cobwebs, dust & an overgrown lawn.. they checked it 3 weeks after i'd left, and guess what, the grass had grown, and the house needed dusting & hoovering...
