Nova XEs are quick compared to a "normal" 1.2-1.6 car.
A lad i work with drives a 1.2 corsa C, so with 3 times the power, no interior, and a sheet load less weight obviously my nova xe seemed quick as fcuk when i tool him out in it....

Its all about comparison.

I think they feel faster than what they are simply because a nova is bare minimum.Put that Xe in say a vectra or an Astra mk4 and it will be a bag of sh1t.Against more modern/refined cars they have to be driven very hard to win or keep up.Gone are the days where you could rip most things in them.

what you have to ask though wudgey is was the other car trying i have had many people overtake me in the loon trying to race but i cba, spud will confirm this from our runs to shows when he has been egging me on to race people in chaved up corsas, but i know i can beet them so theres no challange, but i will have a go against posh stuff porche 911 turbo in the loon and i shoved it down the road to 140 on the clocks then went round it and i can definatly say he was going for it as he gave me a thumbs up when i pulled along side and spud can also confirm this, but im sure some people think they have done me in the loon and say they have done a turbo nova in there ccrap corsa but truth is there were giving it everything an i wasnt trying lol

I thought the XE would have been fast and to a certain point it is but nothing like what they were in the mid to late 90's....now it's an old engine and even diesels will put them to shame.

My xe is an early engine and to my knowledge has not been re-built but is still showing 159 on a rolling road.

I have raced a Civic Type R down some twisty roads and he was right on my tail, we joined the motorway and again he was right on my tail but I don't think he could have got passed - we both stopped at around 130 and at this point the Nova wasn't really going any faster but felt like it was hopping all over the road and I bet the Civic was nice and stable - also unsure if he could have continued to stay with the Nova past 130?

What did show the xe up as being slow, relatively, was Knockhill - on the back straight all sorts were going past the Nova - 205 1.9's, Imprezas in standard format etc. Fair enough the Nova had full interior and hadn't been stitch welded at the point to help in corners and was without coilvers, but what it does do is give you a giggle - far more then my Impreza did or my R6, so for fun factor and a car that can be used as a daily and keep up with most modern cars I give it :thumb:
