View Full Version : Stoo's DC5
Hey up peeps.
Well yesterday I made it official.
I picked up my 4th DC5 off Stephen off the DC5 Forum.
A beautiful Arctic Blue with Black Recaro's, 2003 MY with a whole host of desirable mods and a huge wad of history!
Took a flight over to NI from Gatwick on Friday, Stayed with a friend overnight, collected the car Sat AM and then had the pleasure of driving from Stranraer once off the ferry, all the way down to Guildford! . A good 500miles in total.
What a dream, so nice to be back!
Picked up a few bits en route too, and i fitted a BuddyClub short shifter to her already :)
Ill get some pics up ASAP, but for now, here's a few of stephens pics.:)

I have to say, from my last one without RBC, to this one with it, there is such a big difference in torque!!
I'm looking forward to enjoying every minute of it :)
Stunning example and a tasty spec list so far mate. :)
There's not enough DC5's around in this colour! Does this one have electric PAS then?

From the outsides i really like that! Where's the turbo?
Insides like most jap cars lack a lil tho.
Definetly gotta get my hands on one of these some day!
Benn, No turbo, 270ish BHP N/A, 2.0 16v!
Limpmynnmany, No, Hyd PAS mate!
I think its a nice place to be inside.
Very driver focussed

thats the business, no idea it was so spec'ed up.. looks awesome panned on those coilies
Om nom nom lol
Peester, struck gold with this one tbh.
Theres £2k+ in the ECU/Induction side alone!!
Sticky plate arrived today
Also fitted a buddyclub gearknob, ordered the Kenwood iPod lead (35 bloody quid!!) and got the software and lead to be able to datalog the ECU, send the files to a tuner and have it tweaked to run perfect.
Road mapping ftw!!
still going to charge this one?
Probably not tbh.
Its £2k for the charger. Plus fitting/mapping!
Although i could fit myslef and have it mapped relatively easily using a base and datalogs
Still, alot of money!
£2k for 30ish bhp?
Surely you'd gain a shed load of torque from having the 'charger?
Never seen one in blue but looks
:thumb:
Not as much as you think mate.
I do love the Blue, it is growing on me so much.
I think white looks rubbish now lol
Theres £2k+ in the ECU/Induction side alone!!
or actually about £100 in parts real world price and the £2K for the aftermarket fisting we all get :(
They S/C well for the elises :) gowan
Can this be moved to projects??

Well, after a beautiful wedding and an amazing honeymoon, i landed home last tuesday morning.
Straight back in to it, wednesday saw me visit TGM and do the following
Raised the suspension by 10mm Front & 15mm Rear
Fitted some Eibach SPC Camber Arms
Had a Fast Road Set Up done.
Awesome.
Now handles like it should, and its at a ride height im not afraid to throw it about at!!
Then this week saw a little cold snap
Couple of blue thunder with its winter coat on.
Trying out my new camera too, so excuse quality!
Un-edited too yet, no software - suggestions??

RR Meet at Surrey Rolling Road today
240.8FWHP/202.2WHP @ 8650RPM
172lb/ft FWT
Happy with that.
Running a tad lean at the moment too, so with a larger bore TB and a fresh map to richen it up a bit, maybe 250 is on the cards
I WILL get some new pics up ASAP!!

Ordered some Lamin-X Red tint film to 'red-out' the rear lights today and I've got a Js Racing 70mm Throttle body coming too
Also got some other bits in the pipeline :D
Paul G 2 Piece discs & DS2500/1144 pads
New OEM Rear discs & pads
Braided hoses
Motul RBF600 Fluid
Get that little lot on and then finally get MASE'd when he's next over!
MASE-Renowned US tuner, famous for working his magic with Hondas!
eg A JDM S2000 (240bhp std) mapped by a guy in the UK made 242bhp with a whole load of goodies on it!
MASE came over and got 263BHP!
Hopefully i'll see somewhere around the 255-260bhp mark :D
Which pads are they you have, the DS2500's or the Mintex 1144's? I'd say the 44's are just too soft for hard road/track use... They are epic pads but last all of 5 mins :( the DS2500's last better but arent as 'good' imho compared to say the 1155's.
peester
18-01-11, 07:34 PM
all nice; but hang on - a 240bhp std. s2000, then with 'goodies' made just 2 bhp more?
Then MASE got 23 bhp more..?
Not much gain for lots of goodies is it.. :-s
* i know nowt bout hondas lol - i take it theyre tricky to eak power from..? being so highly tuned; o.e..?
afaik that normally makes it easier, they just have very well ported heads etc, so you chuck a chav filter on instead of an oem panel and it goes yay thankyou, have 20bhp. lol
Stu I haven't bought pads yet. Still researching.
Lolz at air filter =20bhp!!
With a map maybe, not bolt on!!
My engine mods are worth in excess of £4k+
Airbox is nigh on £1k now
Peest, it's all in the mapping bud. It's magic! I don't know how else he does it.
MASE is a legend!
If they are available for the DC5, get CL 5+'s They are fooking mental. And then just use cheap and nasty discs as they will wear the discs hard :)
CarbOn lorraines yeah?
I'll have a look
I want fade free!! Lol
yep carbon lorraines. Try giving hoffmannnns a call in kingston upon thames (might be one f or one n, i can never remember lol)
Cant find this hoffffmannnssss you speak of stu....
Well, The Trust TI-C is on!
God Am i glad to have my hearing back!!!!
Think it needs to be manipulated a little in the opening on the bumper.
Sounds lurrrvely! http://www.itr-dc5.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I think the map may need a tweak though, but i'll get that done when the TB is on and Mr Mase is here!
Also Applied the Lamin-X to the rear lights and gave the interior a clean this afternoon http://www.itr-dc5.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Gonna give it a wash/polish/wax over the weekend

Black leather/Black Suede

Black Leather/Blue suede

Argghhhh.
I'm definitely swayed towards the Leather option, but i'm not sure if the blue will be too garish!
Velour imo, leather buckets look weird/cheap to me. Reminds me of the cheap vinyl clubman ones monaco do that pop up 2nd hand a lot.

LOL These are FAR from cheap leather trimmed!!
LOL These are FAR from cheap leather trimmed!!
I didn't say they were, I said they look it, to me at least. I'm sure they run a good couple hundred more trimmed in leather, but you get negative value for money on it imo lol
They are night on £1k each for leather trimmed!
These are only Faux leather, but they are a damn site cheaper!!
Like £400 a seat cheaper!
Gave the old girl a little wash this afternoon
Used Dod Juice Born 2 Be Mild!
Love the smell of it :)
Excuse the lack of tyre shine/dry wheels etc.
I'm giving it a polish/wax tomorrow and will finish the wheels tomorrow.
Will also do under the bonnet and report back with moar pixors.....

With regards to the seats, all black velour gets my vote. Blue/black will hurt the eyes. IMO.
64>70mm J's Racing Tapered Throttle Body recieved today.
Not sure if i'm gonna fit it or sell it and buy a true 70mm through TB and 70mm Ported RBC Intake from BuddyClub.

Tapereds generally produce more power/torque across the rev range with a better throttle response. Backed up by SBD here also: http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Tapers_Over_MT.htm
Venturi effect is a powerful one not be missed out on imo!
Maybe on Individual throttle bodies.
Not on a single into a plenum.....
Maybe on Individual throttle bodies.
Not on a single into a plenum.....
Aha! Didn't notice the "body" rather than "bodies" that'll teach me not to read properly lol
...but yeah I would imagine the effect is somewhat lessened when you go back out to a larger diameter, can't see that flowing as well!
God, I wish i had ITBs!!
I would imagine the noise is rather darn sexual on a nicely set up Honda lump  must be easier to get 2nd hand and roughly the same price as C20XE ITB's surely? Although it's not like they're in the same price range as what you're paying for a single TB upgrade I guess lol
Very Rare to see ITBs on the K20 really.
The standard intake is very good and awesome gains can be had by just fitting the RBC intake manifold (along with a map tweak) from an Accord Euro R, which I have.
ITBs are very expensive. c.£2k for not a lot of power.
RBC is £250 (70mm Ported RBC £350)
70mm True TB £300
You do the maths for similar gains.....
Only the Japs could chuck an intake nearly as good as ITB's on a road car lol
It's not perfect, but its good (RBC)
The 70mm port match to the 70mm TB is sufficient for the BuddyClub DC5 Race cars running 300bhp NA anyway
Well my innovative mounts turned up today. Will post a pic tomorrow when I'm at home.
They have sent me 75A durometer rating.....
Looking forward to getting them fitted but may be a tad vibey!!!
Won't need the J's ETD anymore!!!

Ooooooowwwwwww yesh please :)
Ordered today
Should be on and mapped in a few weeks
Aiming for 280-290 :D
Well I got the driver side mount in easy.
Pass side.... Grrrrr
Came out simples. Going back in is a nightmare. I've only managed to get 2 out of 3 bolts to the frame back in. I think the bolt hole on the mount needs elongating. I'll get it off and done this week hopefully.
While I'm at it I'll do the front and rear mounts.
I took it for a little drive, nothing balls out cos of the gearbox mount, but the first thing I have noticed is the increase in noise!!
Faaaack!!
! Its Like having the prospec back on!! It's quieter on the outside than in!!
The other thing is vibes. Lots and lots of vibes. It's not too bad when rolling or wot but at idle it's quite bad.
Still got the ETD on ATM though but that's coming off asap.
All this aside, no more movement, kangarooing etc.
Much more precise. Gear changes are smoother. Very happy. Can't wait to get the others in.
On a side note, when the Ti-C was fitted, there was no b-pipe/backbox gasket, so it got liquid gasketed which has now blown thru! Easy fix, motorfactors tomorrow.
I re-did the Passanger side Gbox mount this morning.
Took it off, opened up the holes and jobs a good un.
Solid! Happy Days http://www.itr-dc5.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Got the ETD Removed this afternoon.
Also fitted the remaining 2 engine mounts!
All i can say is....
AWESOME!
Absolutely no wheel hop, kangarooing, engine movement, and best of all......
now the ETD is off aswell, the vibrations aren't half as bad! PERFECT!
Well worth the money, although i reckon the red (60A) compund may be less harsh for pure daily driving.
These little beauts also turned up today...

:D
Charger arrived today :D Wooooo!
Just a few things i wanna freshen up/renew and then ill look at fitting it and getting it ready for MASE :D
Also my side mounts for my seats arrived today :D
Modified the harness release buckles last night.
When they came, the buckle was permanently fixed to the crotch straps, meaning I HAVE to have 5/6 point friendly seats to accommodate them.
However, quick strip down, jiggles and pokes, and now the buckle is permanently attached to one of the lap straps making them 4point for now, and can be expanded to 6 point at a later date when compatible seats are fitted.
WIN
Gonna go fit them this afternoon :D
Harnesses are in
Rear seats removed :D
Will do when it's daylight mate :)
Ordered new IACV, TB and Inlet manifold gaskets yesterday.
Bought some new injector clips for the RCs
Also ordered whole new fresh nuts and bolts etc for the conversion.
Got the parts list from jackson and ordered up via a UK website, so everything is fresh :)
Going to order some silicone PCV and Vac hose in blue this week to compliment the SFS and coolant hoses too.
Just trying to source a Gatorback belt now.
Not long before i start putting it all together :)
Oooooooh goody gumdrops :)
Well the RC Injector clips i got were utter Toss!!
I was led to believe I was buying plug and play type adapters for the OEM > RC injectors!
Like this....
http://www.corsportusa.com/store/catalog/images/CLIP-BCC_M.JPG
What I actually got was this.... x4
http://www.034motorsport.com/images/InjectorConnectora.jpg
This type are installed by cutting the OEM Injector plug off and soldering these on!
Meaning that if i wanted to go back to OEM at any point, I would have to re-cut and solder the original plugs back on...
Not what I wanted!
So I'm sending them back and have bought a set of plug and play type instead!
Also got a lot of the Stainless Steel bolts/nuts/washers I ordered from Westfield Fasteners. (great site if you need nuts/bolts!)Still got a few more to be delivered.
Ordered the hoses too today.
deep pockets there stu, should be good to see it when all finished.
Dunno about deep pockets lol
Just living to my means :)
Cant wait til its built
Looking forward to some finished piccies :)
I now have pure carbon revolutions ;)

Does anyone know of a decent flocking company, out of interest....
Stoo

I used flockit! in liverpool. Very good, prices too. Was a few years ago now though.
Only thing they did a bit wrong , although it could just be my bad prep - was the fuse diagram on the cover got the glue treatment ; when removing ended up ripping some off it away.
I'll check both out.
Cheers guys.
Not even 100% sure what I want doing yet.

That's an odd looking kit on a nova
Surprising what can be done in a shed in Hampshire ;)
Charger support brace turned up today... YAYYY
Booked in for a Competiton Clutches Stage 1 Cluthc, Fresh Gearbox oil and Clutch Fluid next week too.
Also have the opportunity to buy a Mugen Cage.....
Ordered these seat brackets.
http://i41.tinypic.com/2lq4rc.jpg
Took some researching but found what I was looking for via the S2Ki forum :)
Vs a Buddyclub super low bracket ;)

A company called F1Spec in the good ol' US of A
£75 delivered for 8 brackets :)
Should see them sat a lot lower.
Popped in to see Uncle Tommy G today too, officially booked in next week for a new Competition Clutches Stage 1 clutch, fresh box fluid and clutch fluid change :)
Got my plug 'n' play RC injector clips thru today too courtesy of Tuf on CTRO :D
Not long to go now, starting to plan ahead for some time off with my mate to get it fitted. Looking at mid-march.
Just waiting on a new belt and I think that's it!
Once mapped, I'm aiming for the 300bhp mark.
I think that's an easily attainable figure.

Edit: Just read above.. nice power output.. Curious, is it 'quicker' than Lee's new Type-R??
Yes, very much so....
His will be c197bhp if it is completely std....
The DC5 is 217bhp and lighter when standard...
Mine is running c240+bhp at the moment, and has no interior
Mine is plenty up on standard power but heavier.
I bought a different car in the end Stoo rather than the standardish silver one.
Ignore me, just seen you're thread!!
Nice spec!!!

So pretty damn even as it stands. Main question is, which sounds better through the rev range. lol
I don't know about even, as mine has better gear ratios and a factory LSD, lighter weight, better brakes etc etc
£4k!!!!!
Its worth half of that in parts alone at used prices!!!
Toda manifold and decat (£450)
Kakimoto cat back exhaust (£300)
Tein superstreet coil overs with EDFC controller. (£400)
K100 Ecu (£500+)
ITG induction kit (£200ish)
RBC inlet manifold polished and ported to 70mm (£250)
Mugen pedals and front lip (£300 maybe for both)
You could put it back to OEM and make £1500 on it!

Does the Integra have shorter ratios still? I find this has really short ratios compared to the Nova with the F28. 80mph in 6th is about 4k rpm!!
Thats what TDI said about the price I paid for it today, they reckon I should have been paying about £5.5k for it :)
Its a good price.
I'm not sure the Ratios are THAT different, but maybe the final drive....
Iknow alot of EP3 owners have fitted DC5 ratios/boxes though
Yeah mine is exactly that, 4000RPM = 80mph.
c.20mph per 1000RPM, so theoretically, at 9000RPM i could be doing 180mph flat out....
Dropped it off at uncle toms today.
Collect on Friday.
New clutch-tastic.
:D
Well, I'm back after a week of smashing up the Marin Trail and surrounding area of North Wales on my other passion, My beautiful Trek Top Fuel :)
First thing I did, Pick up my mail!
Gator back belt 8) 8)
Also, the final bolt I have been waiting for for the JRSC Conversion.
I now have everything I need! Getting closer to the day it's fitted now!
This afternoon I also went to TGM to pick up my beast after leaving her there on Monday.
Many thanks to Tom and the team for a great service yet again.
The clutch feels so much better already! So much more bite, and a lighter pedal!!
Can't wait til it's bedded in properly and I can see what she can handle :)

I do like this car :)
Cheers Simps :)
I was going to wash it today but the weather is pump, so I took all the rear trim out instead.
All I have in the rear now is the rear 1/4 surround trim and the spare wheel/jack/toolkit (til i get some tyre weld!)
The rear 1/4 trim is coming out tomorrow probably, when I will also wash her. Depending if Rodders comes round or not.
I promise i'll get some pics up soon.

I just get a good wage, although I may not have a job next year..
Decided this afternoon, as much as I love the seats, They are simply a PITA to live with really.
Awesome support and comfrot, but awkward to get in and out of.
Also, if I come to sell the car, the Recaro's are a big selling point...
So, they are out, and the Recaro's go back in tomorrow :)
Recaros back in.
Anywho..
I said I was going to clean it on thurs, so I did.
Please note this was not including any cleaning of interior, exterior plastics or glass, or the exhaust.....

Still, it's not exactly slow as it is!!!
I haven't had chance to do a 30-130 yet, but i do have a datalog thats from 0-150ish but it isnt rolling start and full throttle throughout.
Still, that measures roughly 19.4 seconds 30-130 on the graph.
This is a list of times a mate sent me anyhow, to compare.
I reckon it'll go quicker than the measured time I have anyhow...

so here goes, little write up i suppose....
Woke up this morning.
LATE
Out til 4AM on a work do! Up at 8 to go to Chertsey.
So Off I go to fleet to pick up my mate and smash a tank of V-power in the old girl.
Gets to his, he gets given the keys cos i'm in no fit state.
Drive 100 metres up the road maybe and it threw the belt. Awesome!
Brand new gatorback at £60!!
He wasn't even giving it any beans either....
Strange one
Luckily, I had a spare belt and tools with me, so hungover to fook, I changed the belt on the roadside and we got on our way.
Gets to SRR about 0945ish and there was a hillclimbing S2k on the rollers having magic worked, don't know figures though.
Once he was done, mine got strapped on and ready to rock.
Baseline figure with the map I was running hit 215WHP/247fly..... read on
First map MASE uploads after, hits 245WHP instantly.
Couple of tweaks, more runs, more tweaks etc.... he settled ad around 253WHP/roughly 288fly.
Disapointed stoo.
Then he says, not bad for stock pulley, 4PSI is quite low boost.
To which I replied, this is a race kit with a 7PSI pulley......
So I tensioned the belt which I forgot about by the roadside.
Re-run it.
280WHP instantly, bang......
GOBSMACKED
Tweaky tweaky, final figures as above.
283.6 WHP - 326.1 Fly - 182lbft Torque.
Happy Stoo!!!!
8700RPM Rev limit
3800RPM Vtec window lower limit
975RPM idle speed
Took it out for a run and holy eff it shifted.
However we had an issue.
Something was awry with the TPS sensor reading and at WOT it was showing 0% (only at WOT) and cutting the fuel and ignition instantly like a limp/safe mode....
Anyway, MASE had a play and sorted it out, smoothed the idle out to so it no longer almost stalls after the throttle plate is shut.
All in all, a really good day, top guys, great result.
Afterwards my friend and I went for a blat with Dave C to get some footage which Im sure will be posted soon enough... :)
Cheers

That torque/power curve is awesome. Or should I say torque/power line? Looks like it has plenty more to give if you raised the revs too, not sure what you'd have to do to get that reliably though.
do you not run a front number plate atall?
Car looks awesome Stoo and great results, but FFS White balance the camera lol

I dont want to raise the rev limit mate, it's fine as it is lol!
Plenty of power...
Adam, no, nevarrr.
Ben, cheers... White balance? Learning still, not had it long.
Stoo
dont you get any hassle from the fuzz about it
Never been stopped in 6 months
Quick low down is:
Our eyes convert all light to white but cameras see the light for the colour they are:
Fluo lights are blue
tungsten element bulbs give a orange glow etc etc
So you can either set your camera to auto white balance or manual, i would say your camera is set to manual as its giving the light an orangey tinge in those pics, some people purposely do this for effect.
You can manually set it with a sheet of white paper in any light you just zoom in and focus on the white then set it but you need to redo this every time your in different light so just set it to auto lol

Plenty of power...
Pah, mooooooreeee revs lol
Cheers Ben,
I'll look into it!
