didnt know it was fixable, was just going get a gsi magnex rear box and sell gte rear box as i know someone with a gsi system with knackerd flange.......

so could sell a gte system

You could so that or just cut and reweld the exit on the box, but then if you can get a proper one then thats the way to go :thumb:

well spent a wee while on the nova today, rear axle was wire wheeled down and painted black, also has had new rear brake lines and rear braided rear hoses :D. chassic legs are good nick as are spring seats. also painted petrol tank black and the straps red. looks really good. aslo the car has been undersealed underneath and it seems to have worked well. so i think ill spray on some stonechip to give a hard coat and some burgandy painted mixed and paint the underside. also used rust eater and a wire wheel on a battery drill to tidy up the seams in the engine bay. may not be the best method but its far to wet to run electricity outside. pics will be uploaded asap

got a gsi interior and rear cage today. was told a show cage but its a proper rear cage so wont be fitting it atm. trial fitted it in the car and wouldnt fit without removing seat belts etc, and dont fancy harnesses with normal seats. so stored that way for future use. got the dash swapped over and fitted the seats for the time being as no were to store them. need a few bits for the interior, black centre console, black glovebox and rear shelf supports and front cappings. apart from that its in good nick. need to sort the drivers bolster though. will upload pics later

perfect that will save me sourcing one.

How hard is it to do a electric window conversion because my gsi door cards have speaker holes right were the window winders go, so might fill the hole wilth a speaker and fit electric windows.

been busy the day with the car, my pal came round and we got started making plates for the front chassis legs, got it plated up and looks alot better, next up was the inner wings and front panel so using a mixture of sheet metal and inner wings a got he fabricated the inner wings and hen we fitted front panel and tacked it in place so a can make sure it lines up correctly. so we left the front end for today. i cut out the drivers rear arch and he tacked the new on in place as it was getting dark. had to send cle a few pics as i couldnt upload them

well was fannyin about with the corsa this morning, changed bonnet and wouldnt shut so my dad slammed it shut and it wouldnt reopen, managed to pry it open so made a start on the nova this afternoon, started removing drivers sill, never done anything like this, just seen another member recently do it so i kinda followed what he done. will remove rest tomorrow and do passengers too.

more progress today on the nova, cut of the rest of the drivers sill, also removed passengers, insides arent that bad tbh, a clean up and few plates will do the trick, and its inseen, while was at it i tidyed up the inner archs and applied seams sealer and more hammerite rust eater paint stuff.

what u find so funny? Never seen rust before? Its a 19yr old car ffs. If you havnt got anything nice to say then dont comment. Looks worse than it is. Never done a project like this before so am learning as i go along. Dont have a massive bank account to chuck at it, things get done if and when they can. Least once it welded it will be done right.

Its getting there Craig.

I think you should concentrate on getting the car solid/good bodywork and running nice and not spend any more on mods like alloys etc.. and tune it up over the years.

I made that mistake with mine what went from being a cleanup and on the road ive now got 3-4 grand in it and its still not on the road.

Think about it pal and keep up the hard work

P.S lol at the nova scotia comments

moffat

cheers for the comment lewi. Just getting the wheels ive always wanted. Got offered them on a good basis so not turning them down. Most important thing atm is welding. Once sills are that are attached, engine getting dropped out for engine bay to get tidyied. Got a corsa for a daily now so not in a rush for the nova. Plenty time to get it right. Also means a can go ahead with my plans for 1.6 8v.

been thinking long and hard for a few days, good novas are geting hard to come by now and mine structually is sound, my mate welding it is happy to help out with welding when he can, theres a few wee bits in the front inner archs am not happy with and was thinking of reshelling but at the end of the day would it be worth it? probally not. so plans are atm order a strenthening kit, drop engine out and just wok away sorting out all the bad bits might take a wee while but at least ill know its been done and done properly. going get more seam seal and underseal aswell.

wee pic of the nova sitting on dry concrete now

** update

some more welding done today, got off to a good start, bought some grey stripe seam sealer and red oxide primer and rust eater, then got the passenger splashgaurd plated, inner sill was repaired, and got a patch done on th rear inner arch. was about to get sill on and it started poring down :(. also got some 60mm rear springs today, going have the stub axles raised on a spare beam and 60mm suspension on the rear so it roughly sits about 80mm.

bainyboy sr
01-02-11, 11:45 PM
ano that but if thats the way the cars getting welded you may aswell stop now as it will just fall apart , done mean to sound like a dick but your trying to do it rite so why not get the welding done right

moffat
01-02-11, 11:47 PM
once treated and caked in seamsealer and a good few layers of underseal will be fine. the bit on the inner sill will be covered by sill skin so that bits fine once its sealed properly.

bought some 60mm front shocks and springs, they should be here tomorrow, bought some rear shocks too and got given 60mm rear shocks. and bought some strut top plates so the wanted list is getting smaller ;) also going to see another shell tomorrow as the winter has taken its tole on mine, should never left it out in snow but had no choice

bainyboy sr
04-02-11, 08:59 AM
lol im sorry but i half to laugh what was the point in buying all this stuff starting to weld it and givin up, a few people said at the start of your thread not to bother with it, but youve not got much left to do welding wise and your givng up , just keep at it mate just the sills an back arches todo surely you can do that

moffat
04-02-11, 09:21 AM
drivers splashgaurd, the bit behind the passenger one, battery tray, back panel, both sills, back archs. Never said i was giving up. Said i was going to look at another shell, doesnt mean il take it. The boy who is welding this one is happy to continue, obviously the last bit of welding needs finished,

im just looking at costs, im not wanting to be welding this one come come every mot. Nothing isnt fixable. Another option is to buy a welder, learn to weld and take a year or so to buil it but then id know everything was done.

bainyboy sr
04-02-11, 09:51 AM
if the car is welded right mate you wont need to weld it evrey mot , keep at it mate youve come this far why give up now?

moffat
04-02-11, 10:00 AM
really dont want to give up. Got to think whats more cost affective. As said a few posts back im wanting to put in a 1.6 16v, not wanting it to rip its self apart. Il view the other shell but if i dont take it il still continue with this one.

bainyboy sr
04-02-11, 10:44 AM
a 1.6 16v wont rip it apart mate will be fine what is the the other shell?

If its welded uo right now then all sealed up it should last mate just stick at it :thumb:

moffat
04-02-11, 12:28 PM
will see what happens. Either buy a welder, learn to weld and finish this one or reshell. As said ive got to look at it from a cost affective angle. Do have a garage but will only fit car in. So can only work on it outside. Folk are repairing worse shells, just i dont have experiance yet but i know if i keep at it ill learn/gain that experiance.

brainsnova
04-02-11, 05:58 PM
You should really learn to weld as with most older cars welding is needed and go the gas mig welder route

Agreed :thumb: Were always gonna need to weld these old things at somepoint. Stick at it, do it right and it should last you long enough. Also sticking at this one will give you the experience to build a better one in the future ;)
