Cool project, a mate of mine has one with a Clio lump in it on nitrous, goes really well !

I convinced him a while back to do something a little different so were currently fitting a Honda S2000 engine in another 340 but using the Honda 6 speed and a complete rear subframe out of a Nissan 200sx as well as the front uprights and coilovers for a S13.

Looking at the work yours needs we were lucky as we found a 1 owner from new 340 and everything has come off without a problem so far, certainly going to be a wolf in sheeps clothing once done though !

Keep at it, I'll point my mate in the direction of this thread

look good hope u having fun rust busting

Cheers Danny. I'm having a right laugh mate(!) lol

Looking good, a really nice project.

Thanks mate. It has definitely gotten under my skin. Cheap and has potential. Ticks my old skool box and satisfies my old skool JDM needs by about 25%. :/ lol

Makes me want one haha

wish id kept mine now lol........

off to ebay lol

Do it man. There's not much else out there with as much bang for buck!

Cheers Jonelm, my mate has had a few F7P/F7R 340's. None on gas mind! Bet it shifts and sounds cool! I'm liking the sound of the F20 Honda lump/box and Nissan bits. Should definitley be one to watch, and as you know with any car, starting with a clean base always makes snese. I take it he's gonna drift it?
Aside from the bushes being seized in on mine, it's in about the best condition I have seen of anyone elses projects and most are a lot newer. Mine is a one owner from new OAP job too, spent 15 years unused in a garage too - I'll blame that! lol

Tell him to get a thread up on V3M. The build would certainly be well received on there! If your shell is a 1700 then I'm sur eyou know a lot of the parts are sought after for 16v conversions. Could make a few quid back.

Fair play dude. Cracking on with it!!

Thanks Pete! I shall be asking you how you went about brushing on the body colour on yours without ending up with colour coded hands! lol

Got in 3 hours on this tonight. I can think of better things to do when lying on your back lol. Actually, the car isn't very high off the ground atm so I was mostly on my side. Meh. 3 hours is all my old-ass arthritic hands can handle. As you know, this is a sh!tty job. It's morale boosting to see it change to shiny steel - in most cases - then red oxide primer though. :D I managed to get most of one side of the floorpans done.

Underseal on the floor/on my chest. Clean steel FTW.

The only areas of 'concern' Now look like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/PICT1513.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/PICT1512.jpg

No doubt they wanted to grow up and become structural holes. Sorry guys! The kind of thing above is my reason for taking it back to bare metal. You think some areas are fine, but the steel is nearly always corroded beneath it. Those were showing as blisters through the underseal anyway, but you know what I mean lol.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/PICT1515.jpg
Jacking points like to rust away on these cars. I'm fine thankfully. I knew they were good anyway as I often jack the car from them.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/PICT1514.jpg

Marine spec red 'lead' FTW.

Anyone happen to have a pair of mk1/early mk2 front doors for sale? I want some. A pair of mk2 wings would be good too, oh and a mk2 GLT rear screen surround. lol
Did anyone visit that guy with the job lot of parts?

Thanks for looking, Liam.

Where do you find the energy to do all these naff jobs? Determination is an understatement. I can't even be bothered to finish off the cambelt I removed 2 weeks ago on the RST.

I just want to enjoy it mate. Sick of building cars in the warm weather instead of having fun, y'know? I can't blame you for not wanting to bother with a cam belt atm. Is it outside? The nights are slowly changing but I am still double layered and can see my breath lol.

I'm just wanting this done so i can start with the fun/uprated parts. Light at the end of the tunnel and all that. lol

I do get what you mean. I had the same intentions this year, to enjoy cars more. But so far it's not working out as well as planned. Yeh it's outside, but the weathers slowly getting there. I need to get it back together and ready to sell, as I'm desperate to get into the drift scene.

Yeeeeh, gotta love shiney uprated parts, another reason I want to get on the drift/JDM scene. They have endless amounts of cool parts easily available.

I reckon we may well have a late 'summer' again this year mate, so hopefully you will have plenty of time. I'd love an FRST, and yours is great. Just the wrong time for me!

What motor are you after then? I dislike the scene tax on anything JDM now, but what can you do lol. All of the worthy subjects are great cars for the purpose. I'd be rockin an old Datsun or Toyota, but my pockets aren't so deep anymore. lol

Hopefully, but then again, hopefully not, Japfest isnin May this year, and I've booked and paid, so I hope the weathers nice. Not to worry if it's not, we're taking the sprinter to camp in anyway. I'm sure it will go, I paid very little for it, so I'll sell it for a very reasonable price, especially to someone like yourself, who knows how to maintain such a car.

I'm well into S body's at the moment. Mainly s13. Having driven an s13 and s14a, I'd say the s13 would be a great basis for an amatuer drifter like myself. The short wheelbase and lightness of the car gives great confidence in corners, or I found anyway! Lol gotta love J-tin! If money was no object, it would be an old school skyline. I know the feeling, with money, even more so now valentines approaching, and my girlfriend insisted we celebrate our 3 year annerversary next month. I'll be glad when I do have a mortgage, at least I won't have any spare money for her to spend lol.

I'm sure you will find a buyer who will give it the lovin it needs dude!
I've never driven an S13, every other S Body though, I'd stay clear tbh. The chocolate CA18DET isn't worth the hassle. You can pick up dirt cheap 14's and even 14a's easily enough, and you don't have half the rust issues!

Hands off my KGC!0! lol Saying that, if I had one of those I would be scared to skid it! But if money was no object... lol
lol she's just after more presents mate! Like you say, get a house and a roof over her head can be your gift to her - every day of the year. lol

I'll bring this up to speed, copied from V3M.

OK, I've had a few days off. Been helping a mate move, sore for a few days... and just generally getting on with life, but here's the latest 8 or so hours work.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1522.jpg

It doesn't look much in those pics, but that is a large area. Save for a few harder to access areas and around the rear spring hangers, that is the back of the car done.
Obviously I need to address the hole in the boot floor.

Fuse, these are the wire brushes I have been using. Quite effective, but still wear down faster than I would like.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1517.jpg

The golden ones at the top of the picture I am yet to try. I only bought them out of desperation. (I also asked for one and was supplied two lol). I have a feeling underseal may clog them up, but they should be good for primer/rust etc.

I thought that Mark. There's a few areas that became mirror-like from a few more passes with the grinder. lol

Cool Andy. Good to hear mate. :thumb: I always wear loads of layers. They still get me though! :( lol

Yeah, when I blow something up/snap something at least it won't be as unpleasent under there. lol

Been faffing on again. John was over this afternoon and we raised the car up higher and moved the front stands. Cheers mate,

Then tonight I created some room so I can work on the O/S/F

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1526.jpg
Cabinets were previously about a foot away from the O/S/F.

I removed everything else (running gear wise) that needs to come off. Sorted now. Just the engine left, and that is staying in.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1525.jpg
Can see the damage where it fell off the jack in all it's glory now. lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1524.jpg
Damn straight! Although when I stuck that on I never envisaged going this far lol.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1527.jpg

Crossmember, subframe thing, steering rack, tie bar, bottom arm, front leg etc.

It may not look like much, but it put up a decent fight in places - espsecially the steering rack. Could have done with hands that don't have crippling pains running through them whenever I am in an awkward position tbh.

More underseal removal next time. Joy(!)

LMAO! You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Andy again. :(

Block of wood and jack on the subframe this time. No ramps at home. lol

That's good going on your own mate. It's never fun supporting a gearbox when trying to line up the splines is it! Could you not covert to a soilid fly? You know you will be back under there again in the near future, right? lol

Cos my garage is full of Nova and it was Evans Halshaw Beverley who were dealing with it and my mates unit is 2miles from there,so it made sense to do it there where i had the space.

Another belated update. Had other things on lately, but still been getting some stuff done on the car. Here's what's been happening over the last week or so.

I am wanting to raise the front turrets to allow for more suspension travel.
Thanks to one of Johns scrapper GLT's I have another pair of turrets, perfect to extend mine the 2" I require.

Ronnies ideas and keen eye came in very handy once again. I wouldn't have thought of going about it this way. Makes perfect sense though. Thanks again mate!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1529.jpg
Stud bar allignment FTW.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1531.jpg
N/S looking a little worse for wear!

These seem to be the only pics I have. Steady hands in action. lol

One side fits, just needs a little more tweeking and the turrets cleaned up (underseal) before it's welded to the car. The other side isn't as far on.

I have modified the front valance so that it is now open, instead of being a trap for water and horrible sludgy crap. De-lipped it too, so this one will never rot out. It had a bit of surface corrosion in places, but nothing serious.
I will weld some brackets to the rear of the valance and the underside of the crossmember to regain the panels strength, but leave enough room to keep the inside free from unwanted nasties.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1540.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1554.jpg

Here's what was hiding and happily eating it away from the inside.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1535.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1537.jpg

Inner arches bare metalled and painted. No nasty surprises hiding there.
Lips also trimmed right back for wheel clearance.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1547-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1555.jpg

The seats and carpet etc are out to allow interior access. This was surprisingly complicated.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1541.jpg
One side of sound deadening removed. The reasons for taking this off are twofold. To see what if anything lurks beneath, and when I do fit a couple of buckets and strip the car out all I will need to do is give the floor a quick rattle can.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1542.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1543.jpg
Will weld the bungs up. As can be seen, one of them has diseased the floor pan.

I think that's about it. I really should update more frequently. lol

I have done my favourite trick of bare metalling further sections of the underside and then not being arsed to paint them, no doubt they will need another quick pass with the wire wheel to bring them back up to spec for painting. I was planning to have the underside as good as finished this past weekend, but my hands have been really sore, I couldn't be bothered to crawl about on the floor and it's been freezing. LOL

Cheers kiddo. Need to get a clear run at this, but life keeps getting in the way!

Such as, Saturday I went down to Torquay with a mate to get an MR2 Turbo, and on Monday I was window shopping - not the kind you are thinking! Two little scrotes decided to put out the passenger side glass on my daily/beater/****ter/Fiat on Sunday night whilst I was in the garage working on the 360. Could have done without that!

Once I had taped black bags over the car I decided to cheer myself up by mocking up its soon to be new look. I have a few parts stashed/in the making. Here's four of them/ (Eight if you count the wheels) deeper, lower ET ML's than the previous ones).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1565.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1567.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/ManorQuay/Volvo%20360/PICT1559.jpg

I like these profile tyres, they will cushion the ride a little, don't seem to make the wheel look less dished, and will allow me to lower it an inch further than previously. I will run these all round.

Fitted to the axle. Shouldn't need very large spacers.

Aye they're from RR. Same as Octagonal Paul has on his Nova saloon. I asked for 'style 1'. The thinnest most subtle ones. Me thinks I need to revisit RR and see what the measurements are, cos they are like 70mm. I wonder if I have the wrong ones, although they are growing on me. I just don't want them to stick out past the bumpers.

Typical me though, I now look like another sheep cos I never act on these things when I first become aware. Then again, I would have had to source some genuine 0mg Work jobs or similar had I opted for this style a few years back. So be it. lol

Aye, these cars can look and go alright if you give em some love. lol

db - save the plaudits until it's back together mate! lol If you praise me now, then I will consider my work to be done, afterall I only exist to be a forum ASW. (lol).

Garage time after I make some tea. :)

I think Im a member on RR.... I was at RR 2010 with dub low when I had the golf. Great forum for interesting projects.

I think those arches look the business, you figured out what size spacers youll need yet? I know what your getting at with the bumpers..

I guess you had a day off today? I dunno what it's like your end, but weathers been excellent today, and I didn't have much work myself, so cleaned all underneath the RST and gave it a second wax coat.

Doing great work as always anyway Limp, keep up the good work.

Err can I reply now? The weather is great here today. lol

Gonna watch Wolves/WBA and Man U/Chelski then will be down the garage. I agree RR has some mad projects. They go well OTT with the importance of a thread title etc in general though! lol

I found the louvre on eBay. Had been after one for about 1.5 years (or however long I had had the car at the time) They're very hard to find as you know. I think including mine there are two Volvo 300 ones in the UK. lol

I bet one would look great on a 3i! They look awesome on a 3dr Sierra. :)
Cheers for the rep. I shall return it - I'm a bit late though. lol You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to db_1.2 again. :(

Just FYI. This is still happening. There has been quite a lot of work done it since I last updated here. Most of it looks like I have spent barely any time on it, but trust me I have - although not as much as I could. Pics don't show a great deal. This really is awkwardly shaped in places!

I am being quite pedantic about underseal/rust removal. Not much left now, but I don't like leaving the bits I can't access. Time to buy a blow torch. Or another* heatgun. I have been doing other stuff inbetween too, bits of welding on this, helping mates on their cars etc you know how it is.
I am hoping to have it in seam sealer/stonechip/painted underneath and in the arches etc in around a month.

Then the cleaning up/reassembly of the running gear can commence. I have collected pretty much everything I need for that, and I am REALLY looking forward to not having to lie on my back
90% of the time I want to do anything to the car!

*I have been through 3 in about 4 years. :/ lol

Good find. I've looked for ages but not found one. A guy had one on an xr3 last year at rs combe, was awesome!

I've finally managed to buy my own place now, with space for a small workshop eventually. Can't wait for a project like this, was even looking at 240 sedans on eBay last night ;)

Get some pics up, thread needs a refresh :)
