Right next to the 9 pin ECU one? Thats also part of it, Can't remember exactly what it does, Might not even be needed for your XE conversion.

How many wires and what colours are they?

Yeah just checked the engine loom I removed from the car an the other half of it is there.

RPM wire
Fuel x2
Handbrake
Indicator light x2
And 3 others that ive forgot already lol probably EML, ABS & Fog light warnings at a guess though.

How it connects to the Jenvey loom though is another story lol lol

Update timez lol heres what I been upto on the weekends over the last few months....

I did hactually make a start on slimming down the wiring loom in Jan, an started again in late feb but ened up removing half the stuff I hactually need!

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/scapz.jpg

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/poosticks.jpg

So needed a new loom! Alex saved the day, an saved me some time by kindly chopping up a Corsa loom for me an sending it to me so all i had to do was wrap it & fit it

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/alexw.jpg

So with the dash out, finished the metal work inside an got it all painted in satin black

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/interior.jpg

Wrapped the loom, fitted the dash & put all the interior elec back in (well all for the time being!)

Got me some V6 calipers off eBay for £20, complete set of pistons seals from big red an some Meriva 280 discs an got busy

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/lolz.jpg

It'll work in theory i told myself.....

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/lolzz.jpg

Unfortunatly in reality no it didnt

With the Cromodora's not fitting for shizzle, I sold them on to a guy with a Belmont SRi & opted for the RFX route.

But even these are uber tight

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/tighter.jpg

From there it was all engine bay & front end work really. Undersealed an cleaned out the inner archs, changed washer pump from twin outlet to single, cleaned the washer bottle out, cleaned down & prepped the bay etc etc

Looks a very good build so far as well

There some more bits yet, just not uploaded the pics. *Hopefully* it'll all be sign written the same as Im planning on having my van done so it'll look sweet when there both on the move with the B on a trailer :)

Monday just gone I was really REALLY bored at home but the weather was poop. Staring at the roof vent I had something was amiss......

Just woundnt've looked right if Id have fitted it painted up as it was so I had a master plan.

Carbon kevlar wrap it :)

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/vent1.jpg

But the master plan got even better by a complete random chance of luck! The epoxy Id put on the vent reacted with the paint turning it into goo so once the kev set hard I could prise it off (WIN!) and end up with x2 roof vents!

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/vent2.jpg

Once removed I reinforced the inside of the vent with some roving & black out epoxy....

A quick spray wax & buff later....

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/vent3.jpg

With the Fiat directional vents attached the complete kit weights in at a shade over 480 gram's.

Well havent realy done much to this sack of cack latetly other then an epic brake pipe instal session yesterday. Just left with two pig tail pipes to put on in the back, pin back the pipes in the scuttle & the brakes are finished.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/IMG00289-20110416-1442.jpg

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/IMG00290-20110416-1443.jpg

Once the scuttles all back together it'll be hidden out of sight so no nasty brass 3 way connectors looking out of place in the bay.

Oh & another demeaning task of cleaning the shÃ*t gaurds an refitting them with all new plastic rivets. How boring...

Mike
24-04-11, 06:00 PM
Not really done owt to this the last few weeks as been busy working on things like this...

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/IMG00272-20110405-1716.jpg

And welding some of these....

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/IMG00291-20110420-1732.jpg

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/IMG00292-20110420-1733.jpg

So all Ive managed to do is strip the pass door of its elec window mech, fit a manual one & get the door card on. Which then presented the problem of lock/unlock meh.

So copied a trick from an Evo8 track car build I once noseyed an voila!

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/IMG00294-20110424-1340.jpg

Just left to cut the actuator rod down & fit a nice little handle/knob affair to it.

Iain
24-04-11, 06:09 PM
Is that going to be the handle to open the door or lock it?

Mike
24-04-11, 06:13 PM
Its the pin thing to lock the doors from the inside like Iain, the OE door cards have a hole in them but because I got these gay ass carbon trims theres no hole :( so I just bent the rod at 90 degree, an will shorten it & put some form of little knob thing on the end.

Iain
24-04-11, 06:16 PM
Ah cool, assume you're not having central locking then? Cos then you wouldn't need one :)

Mike

Nah the RCL is long gone lol still yet to take actuators out the doors mind but on the whole its gone.

Yea thats all sorted now, will be picking one up at National Day & going from there.

Got Bored budget has took a blow though as the Bread Van failed its MOT good style so needs some remidal work, its been neglected for the last 12 months/26k miles so needs a once over & fresh tax.

Still undecided on the overall engine spec for the B though.... But got all the bits to build up both doors now as ditcing the polycarb route & keeping a steel boot door for now.

Just a couple of fittings short now & Ive got all the bits for a twin bottle direct port setup for a measly sum of £390 for both the kits.

Not bad considering on WoN site a brand new twin 11lb direct port kit is just under £1k!

What spec XE is it getting?

A pretty decent spec N/A motor basically Paul. Omegas, rods, ARP, Autosprint race head, 300ish cams, L&B fly & bottom end, some throttle bodies & a nice old dollop of direct port gas ontop.

With regards to gas, the other kit I bought arrived this week :) contents including a baby 5lb'er & MiniMax controller so I been having a play about with that this evening & constructed an awesome flame thrower device in the garden using the fuel pulsoid lol lol but I think ill be using my other bottle with this as its an 11lb'er & sell the small bottle on.

Soooooo, in no particular order....

Bought an engine

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/motor.jpg

And took it to teeny tiny little itty bitty pieces, and got it rebored etc etc

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/block2.jpg

And its still in teeny tinny little itty bitty pieces now...

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/baremotor.jpg

Played with my knob for a bit. Had a right problem getting it to fit (not the first time mind)

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/gobabygo-1.jpg

Bought a battery & fitted him, along with the wiring for it & kill switch

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/battery.jpg

And some harness's courtosy of our very own Mr Merris (thanking you please)

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/harness.jpg

Move the extinguisher out the way ~ for two reasons. Its looked shÃ*t where it was, an keeps heating up, setting off & filling the car with foam :S

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/moved.jpg

And put the zoom zoom bottle in its place

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/zoomzoom.jpg

Didnt like the kevlar roof vent, so made a carbon one. But dont really like that either

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/carbonvent.jpg

And decided on complete inner floor trays as the grip tape just looked cheap. Will carbon'ise this in morrow & get it fitted along with the drivers side one.

Theres a piston in the block if that counts? Literally just one, balancing on its rings in the top of the block lol lol

But, I only actually work on this when Im bored, literally, that is the only time I kinda go near it :S

Oh, and Ive bought a selection of brake pads, couple of different compound Mintex ones, budget GM & Police spec GM, so in ten years time once its finished I can do some testing & see what falls off & what doesnt :)

As for the roof vent Scott, you dont actually need the internal part to make roof vents work (if youve ever seen the current M Sport Fiesta roof vents with directional ball vents you'll understand)

EDIT: And been making some carbon fibrer door pockets too, so they'll be fitted soon. And put more of the dash back together today lol so I am actually doing er, stuff :S

scott.parker

Yeah but would be nice to have the directional parts etc, then i can go for sliders an pollys all round, but till the time comes for roof vent/pollys I'll stick to glass.

Ah right ok, I havent got the inside mould for this type vent:

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/102_1674.jpg

But I do have the moulds to produce the classis Es'cos style vent like so:

Finito'd this earlier whilst making loads of other tat lol

Carbon composite inner floor w/combined foot rest in one easy step :) reinforced it with a bit of roving so its pretty damn sturdy now.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/innertray.jpg

Had to shorten it down a little as fire extinguisher is in the way so its not full length, but Mrs Mike is a short ass anyhow.

Does it smell strangley sweet, almost like syrup but not quite the same as? As thats all I can smell most of the time lol epoxy resin lol

Hopefully the engine will be pretty good, gonna have to shift a lot of FG parts to pay for it mind :S

Mike your the Willy Wonka of carbon fibre lol

Have you decided on spec then for the engine? I've a feeling your looking at spending megabucks

Mike
10-07-11, 03:52 PM
FLOL lol tbh Im doing more fiberglass stuff now lately, quicker & far easier to produce, saving the carbon'ness for the Corsa :) still yet to do the drivers inner floor aswell :S

Engine spec wise, Ill just make it up as I go along if Im honest, in no real rush. The actual car tho, its soooooo close to nearly finished its unreal! Just a few niggly problems, some odds & ends to buy & the funs over as it'll be all engine. Until I get bored of engine then I might make a complete Corsa carbon dash & definetly a GSi kit from carbon :)

AlexW

Cheers Dave, I got loads of roof vents knocking around lol carbon & FG. Got rid the kevlar roof vent & rocking it out with a carbon one now aswell lol

If you change XE rods to 144mm centre to centre ones, JRE can supply a 94mm stroke crank that will give you 2.3 (or near enough) litres. They do 2.5 ones aswell (97mm) (cranks start at £1850+vat :S & rods are £785+vat).

Barely touched this lately, but did get round to getting hold of a Bilstein Tarmac rear setup. Got some Bilstein an also ProTec tarmac springs, bit of choice.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/102_1759.jpg

And also started assembly of the short block.

Early type crank
86.5mm rebore
ACL main bearings
JRE main bolts
JRE front & rear crank seals
JRE high torque starter motor (1.0kw)
GM water pump
GM oil pump

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/102_1760.jpg

All I need to do now is order a set of new rings from Omega, H rods, ARP fly bolts, take fly to Autosprint, SBD oil gear & relief valve & then assemble it all with one of the JRE baffled sumps Ive got. And the front coilovers & x6 tyres come pay day. Had the wheels done at A1 in the city & picked them up yesterday. Its very nearly ready to go off to R3 for some bodywork TLC!

As it stands, providing I can get my hands on truck to pull it, it'll make PV/National Day on a trailer but be a fully legal running motor ready to blow to bits.

Scott, he 'got bored' of building it so decided to sell, he then 'got bored' of trying to sell it, and then 'got bored' of seeing it there so decided to finish it!

In a nutshell pretty much.

It owes me money (obviously lol) but not a great deal (maybe £1800 max?) but its costing funk all to have it sat there doing nothing so decided to keep it instead. I was asking £1k for the lot + all parts & spares, but I put 12 auctions for minor parts of it on eBay and within 3 days they were totalling more then £500 in bids, so I know for a fact if I ever properly break it Ill make what it owes me back with ease.

Its going to be interesting to drive to say the least lol was going to run it up on DTH bodies but if Im honest unless I can blag some with an ECU for £800ish I aint gonna bother with the extra outlay as I want a new road car aswell so would rather put £2k into the savings for that.

Im gonna go full chat round qaurry corner at Combe & take out some armco's at some point tho, gives me excuse to torch its remains :)

Mike
29-10-11, 11:21 AM
Done a miniscule bit more :S got rear dampers fitted without springs at the moment, so its properly decked on its little 14" 3 spoke rims lol

Blagged some dirt cheap bits off eBay.... MTech rear disc handbrake cable kit with all the brackets & bits & cables for £20, Bilstien tarmac springs for £40 & some bargain adjusters for £10 off wmamanoonoo lol turns out Nova springs adjusters differ to Corsa ones tho :/ so that plan went out the window.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/102_1824.jpg

Blagged a brand new GM oil pump off eBay for 99p on a midday auction a few weeks back also & ordered up SBD gear & gasket.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/102_1823.jpg

Consulted my Westfield building friend about mini alternators & how they get around paying the £200+ SBD pricetag. So Ill see what he turns up as hes got some info & sizes for me.

Got the handbrake cables all fitted up so just need fettling to suit & two rear pigtail copper lines need making up to fully complete the brake lines. Took the RFX's to A1 wheels in Wolvo for finishing so they need tyres & still need to order front suspension.

The remaining list of to do jobs is farking tiny now....

Fit rear springs
Front suspension purchase
Tyres x8 purchase
Lug nuts (currently using Honda lugs)

GSi skirts & Rear bumper
Re attach spoiler
Take for paint
Weld in nitrous bottle mounts

Rear brake lines x2
Bleed brakes & test hydraulics

EPAS coloumn purchase/fit
Finish internal wiring + heated screen purchase

Piston x1 + set of Omega rings
Rods
Headgasket & headbolts purchase/fit
Head & fly to Autosprint (to do)
Fly ARP's
Gearbox, diff, shafts supply/fit
Loom, ECU, inlet supply/fit
Engine mounts supply/fit
Mapping

Done. Ish.

It's just a giant washer to hold the bottom pulley to the crank, if you tried to fit it without that it'd slide over the bolt. Fairly sure the pulley sits over the washer.

I'll take the Corsa off your hands though if your wanting to let it go mega cheap i.e free, I'm skint since getting wed last month lol

When I sell it I wont be asking much as I didnt give much for it at all, all things considered. Part ex'd Bread Van on it which dropped the price nicely too.

Dude I need to talk to you about making Carbon stubby mirror covers..

Mate I really havent got the time! Im having to down CarbonMike work as I just havent got the time to do it anymore (easier & a lot more beneficial to to do overtime at work!).

But, an yes there is always a but, my gaffa at work has wrote a fiar few books on laminating etc & have given me a set of plans to make a very effective oven to cure carbon in :thumb: Over christmas holidays this is the project Im on, be able to cure pre preg carbon at home & get very easy perfect results 99.9% of the time.

scott.parker
15-12-11, 07:26 PM
I understand mate, but i will make sure you see some good money from it if you can do me some sets from a mold of the mirror covers Ive made, as im sure your aware a set of stubby carbons will be worth selling compared to normal ones.

Mike
15-12-11, 07:38 PM
I know Scott, labor cost in this instance is irrelvant though, its time, well lack of in this case :/

When I made a prototype standard size mirror cover I ended up head scratching at how to get them to attach to the mirror body etc. For pure ease I just opted for a simple "bond onto OE cover" affair like the Impreza mirror caps that CarbonMods make.

Re: Unfinished prototype cover:

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/brapy0.jpg

OE internals:

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/102_1593.jpg

As you can see, OE is compliated simple interference fit. Time consumption central!

Anyway, besides that the cheap china bolts are IMO only fit for the bin so there in there already lol and Ive also machined up some 17mm spacers for the coilover/top mount from a bit of scrap T6 aluminium at work.

Attempted a little more on this pile of shÃ*te yesterday to no avail.

Swapped the drive in the oil pump for the SBD one & from there it all went downhill.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/102_1837.jpg

Mounted the oil pump to the block, torqued it up & crank has a really bad tight spot. Losen pump off & it spins freely absoloutly fine. The tight spot is that tight you cant even spin the crank with two hands :S

Little video, hard to make out as whole block move when spinning the crank, but watch the bottom right hand side of the screen. Block is upside down, you can clearly see the oil pump to sump mounting face moving up & down as the crank is rotated.

They are mate. Im growing bored shÃ*tless of messing with cars & no longer have any motivation. Would much rather have a cushy daily & thats it.

Couple of mates of mine have recently not long bought 1300/1500cc Sea Doo's. There aint no speed limits out on the water mate. Plenty of tunning scope for them & can run nitrous oxide too.

Fancy that lol

Been mincing again tonight. Coilovers I bought were designed for OE top mounts (yawn...) not eccentrics so ran into a small issue.

Turned down some lovely small T6 ally spacers, built suspension units up but decided where the insert bolts to the top mount just didnt look right at all (read as unsafe).

Being the all round genius & general awesome top bloke that I are, I devised a plan. Stock + dye x coilover insert = win.

Bought a big old 38mm dia split die (as the punny 28mm one I was using didnt like big chunks of stainless steel & shÃ*t its **** out as soon as I tried), a nice hefty stock & got busy.

LH with spacer, RH without

Much better (and cheaper!) then sending them back to GAZ to swap the inserts out for eccentric compatible ones.

Slowly but surely plodding, probably around 10 months behind schedule now but such is life an all that jazz.

Picked up some new old stock NLS ex works GrpA alloy bells for a steal, just need the rotors for them another day. Came in a box wrapped in newspaper from June 2000!

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j181/mikenova/The%20knacker/6boltbell.jpg

Fitted coilovers out with 10" tarmac springs & got them on the car. Got my hands on some Corsa GSi skirts made from GRP which I plan to take a mould from at some point & obviously fit to car. Pair of Corsa GSi driveshafts for a bargain 22.50 off eBay this morning too.

CarbonMike wise though Im not to busy this weekend and because its only 3c outside instead of spanner work Ill make a start on a carbon fibre drivers side inner floor to match the co-driver foot tray instead.

Right then chaps, this is now up for sale as I cant take it with me fortunatly

Asking £2k for the lot. The car and all the parts associated with it etc etc. Will be sold rolling on standard Corsa Sport 3 spokes so can be trailerd or towing dolly etc. Failing a full sale ill be eBay'ing the best bits & the rest is going down EMR's compacter.

PM for details or hav a look through the thread for just about all the parts & junk thats included (around £2ks worth, could easily break this for £3k IMO if you know how to sell properly)
