heya bought a 1.6 16v corsa the other day, its down as a 1.4 sport though, it drove fine for a day and a half then it the engine started to make a reli loud noise like a deisle (cant spell) and wouldnt get past 5 mph, rick open the water bottle cap and steam was peeing out, when it calmed down it looked like there was next to no water in! we topped it up waited for the engine to cool right down then started it again but it wouldnt go any faster than 5 miles an hour :( any ideas??? (oh and its an astra engine)
Also with it being a 1400 shell i have been told a 1.2 16v corsa engine should go in but the wiring would be tricky because it may need extending!?! any help with this as well would be greatly appreciated :thumb:

what? why buy a 1.6 corsa that should be a 1.4 and then put a 1.2 in it?
Sounds like a headgasket or worse i would scrap it and buy a nova :thumb:

sound like you bought a bag of spanners
you need to find out exactly whats what, see if you can find the enigine number, may have bee removed as its a 1600?????
if it should be a X14XE find one (easier than a X16 to get) and put that in, servvise and timing blet it up, you should be ok then
ring garbutt brothers scrappy up your way they usually have good stuff and not silly prices

Maybe because you found out that it was down as a 1.4 it tired to get rid of 200cc's before it's cover was blown lol (sorry soon as I read that it was the first thing that come into my head)
Back to being serious though, it does sound like a headgasket issue, have you done a compression test? With it sounding really rough, no power, no speed, drinking water, pressurised expansion tank and it steaming just sounds like it.
I'd do that first.
If you decide to change the engine why not just get a 1.4 sport engine?
Really no need for 3 threads?!
it ran fine for the lad before us and i no thats fact, no i havnt done a compression test will do that 2nite and the reason behing the 1.2 16 is my mates everything there for it, its cheap and will go in haha

sorry :( only did the 3rd cos of the post about thread titles in technical

erm, if you take the header tank top off when the engines hot, then yes, you will get steam and water going everywhere, and you will end up with an empty header tank, as water has a higher boiling point when its pressurised
I'd look somewhere else before putting it down to the head gasket
fitting the 1.2 16v is alot of work as you need to change the in car loom aswell as the engine loom, and tbh that engine is crap. find another 1400 16v lump or a 1600 8v or 16v lump and fit that.

why do you think its the headgasket if it made a knocking noise?

water boiled, went and had a quick look, but it was too dark to have a proper look, no mayonaise on the oil cap, and the radiator is leaking
