The saloon was in okish condition but its a 4dr so meh. The black one would have made a good track car, but I offered it for free and nobody wanted it so CHOPPY CHOPPY lol

I was going to just scrap it but donated it to Lee's Projecto Minceo. Well, by donated, it was more a kinda "I'm going to chop the black rat in half" "ok" lol

FLOL lol The black shell was more than pants tbh, and the green one, despite being described as 'mint' by craig had two wobbly wheels, a bent drivers door, and a dubious smashed column with the barrel hanging around by the pedals. (yes, I do have the logbook lol)

More mincing.

mini nova or no door dukes of hazard nova

But at the end of the day, mini-cars have been done (even to a Nova) and although the Dukes idea sounds cool, it'd merely be a Nova with the doors welded shut. Do you not forsee the amount of stick we'd get at shows for that? lol

SAloonaque is different (as Lee rightly said, how many trailers do you see that are made out of two ends of the car? Rather than just a big metal sheet) and serves the club as its functional.

Oh god, theres tonnes to do if we want to make it look half decent, then theres all the bollox of making a useable barbie which wont set fire to the back of it, not to mention the paint and all the other crap we want to stuff in it!

When you come up next, getting it into a towable condition will be all i'm aiming for tbh, plus blending the quarters from the hatch properly. We have another rear bumper now though thanks to Jackalous :)

we all rekoned we really could have really done with it last weekend!!

Yea a towable state shouldnt be to hard at all TBH matey, we've got both sections of the A frame made all's we gotta do is weld it together, bolt & weld to the chassis an we're practically done Re: Towing state.

The qaurter panels could be a little faffing about as we gotta get them right so the doors can still open, else we're funked lol

I'd put a brace between the nearest points on the 2 'inwardsy bits' on that, as once it tries dragging a couple hundred kilos+ they're going to try and straighten up, might be fine but better safe than sorry lol

Thats not the issue, the rolling resistance from a 250 kilo trailer is minimal. The issue is the uppy downy bouncy bouncy motion from bumps which *could* bend the A frame up, so we plan to brace the middle of it to the front (or rear lol) panel of the trailer to stiffen it up. Its just going to make fitting the rear (or front) bumper a pain but im sure we'll get round it.

Hopefully next weekend we'll have a useable trailer and maybe even a barbie installed lol Then it'll just be asthetics, electrics, and some finishing touches ;)

I was thinking more of the inertia trying to get it rolling than when you were actually moving :p Long as it's being braced somewhere you should be fine though :)

Mike popped up again so we could do another full weekend on the trailer :)

After popping out shopping sor some bits and bobs, we got back and started to complete the hitch.

Firstly, attached the hitch to the A frame

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/06032010176.jpg

Then we started bracing it up to ensure I dotn lose all the club gear on the way to an event lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/06032010177.jpg

Connected up the handbrake

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/06032010178.jpg

Then we started on tidying up the join between the hatch front and the saloon shell

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/06032010179.jpg

SHould get loads more done tomorrow than we did today as we spent half the day driving around shopping for stuff!

Needs a hatch GSI bootlid with comedy backwards-facing roof spoiler lol

And also, a white plate showing towards the front :thumb:

Lee
07-03-10, 07:34 PM
lol spudders. No., the front half will be for lugging all the club stuff such as the gazeebo, flags, banner, banner frame etc. its far too short for me to sleep in. That means my Van will actually have room for me to sleep in it then!!

Lots of other goodies will be installed though. A Caravan battery for a start which will run some 12v lights at the back for illumination in the evening, a stereo of some description which i intend to have a flying lead so anyone can plug in their ipod, as well as a full on bistro affair at the back with sauce dispencers and the like.

Hardest part will be finding somewhere for a trastle table, but I may get a nova roofrack for that lol

Craig, your havin a laugh. We had to make it stiff so it wouldnt retract mid cookage lol. Rams would probably punch a hole in the back of the boot lol

Dave, its getting a standard hatch door with a polycarb window to keep the frontal weight down probably. And obviously a white PNG showplate ;)

But then on the flip side a pair of nova boot struts would aid the fold outyness and also help to make sure it stays out during cooking:thumb:

More mincing with Mike

Thanks to RETRONOVA I had a new strut and grab panel / lock so we could fit the tailgate to the front end. Unfortunately, Jack robbed the catch from it so i need one of those as well lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20032010194.jpg

Unfortunately we mostly had to do bodywork today.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20032010204.jpg

Originally I wasnt going to bother fitting seats, but then Ive just aquired a new sofa from the 'rents, and the old one had cusions which fit the bill a bit too well to not try!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20032010199.jpg

Found an old seat cover! Needs some adjustment but you get the idea

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20032010200.jpg

Just thinking of sitting at billing in it with a can of cider and a tab with my feet up :) its proper comfy lol.

Tomorrow should have primer on all the exposed bits, front bumper on and some windows cut for the front quarterlight windows.

mowgli
20-03-10, 08:43 PM
the roof gutter seams are a bit wonky because of the differing roof shapes, keeping the bit over the doors will stop water dripping in when used at crap weather events (nat day etc), but the bit on the new front end isn't doing anything

Well today, the basic chassis was finished. Its a one piece watertight trailer!

First job this morning was to finish off the rubbing down and get some primer on all the joints. Really pleased with how the two halves have come together. its not perfect, but it was never going to be, but Mike agrees with me when I say we surpassed our expectations

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/21032010207.jpg

Just for mowgli, some better pics of how we blended the gutters

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/21032010208.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/21032010214.jpg

As you can see on the last pic, cut some polycarbonate and installed the front quarter windows bu cutting down the original hatch rubbers

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/21032010210.jpg

Mike made some front side panels to plug the gap up left by the old hatch wheel arch. They look great, and we stuck them on with loads of nail and seal to keep the water out, and some rivets.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/21032010211.jpg

Then loaded up all the remaining gaps with nail and seal (farking love that stuff)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/21032010212.jpg

Cleaned up the hitch and A frame and got a first coat oh Hammerite on

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/21032010213.jpg

Last job was to roughly fit the front bumper. Will be trimmed neat before paint

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/21032010215.jpg

So there we go, pretty much complete. Still need to cut a polycarb sheet for the 'front' window, but that can be done later. Some pics of how it stands now. Spoke to Dan, and if the weather holds out, should get paint on it next weekend!

Pair of Cav slabs in white (to match the white Vito rims)
We've had a mince about & think about lowering it, an the general consensus is yes, by 30mm, providing once loaded it'll still make it/down Lee's lane/driveway.

You can get it from Bodyshops as well Mark, in mahoosive rolls.

Dan popped up to lay the paint on. As per usual he did a fantastic job. Any bits that didnt come up to scratch were due to the conditions in the barn, and the prep as some of the rags we used to wipe the panels down seemed to have a small amount of silicones impregnated in them). Luckily, Dan managed to save a few bits that could have spelled disaster, so big thanks for your time today big man :)

Was great catching up with the lads again as i have been locked away in work for so long now, esp great to see mike as i hadnt seen him for a while, i reckon when he starts eating properly he will be a healthy lad lol lol lol lol ;)

The first coat of paint went on a dream, then decided not to after it had hit the panel lmfao, but luckily with some messing around and a thick second coat it cured many of the early problems

Its called Hyacinth blue :( Very camp name, but its the standard blue you see the MK1 vito's in (although the paint appears to fade worse than flame red, so my van is a lot deeper than the other ones you see, just look at my roof lol)

Anyhoo, was bored today as I didnt have much to do for once so I went for a mince.

First thing was to clean up, prep and paint the slabs Dan donated to the build.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/02042010220.jpg

Then I set about fitting all the windows back in, and I cut a sheet of plastic for the front window. All we could get was polystyrene sheet which is for interior use only, so it'll be interesting to see what happens to it lol May need replacing with some polycarb next season, but this'll do for now.

Tomorrow I intend to get some rubber on the slabs and have a look at lowering the suspension. Unfortunately all I have are 80mm springs from my old Breeze SR, so Im not sure if Ill get any travel on standard shocks, but there's bog all weight in it, so theres only one way to find out lol

On the plus side tho, its looks fantastic with the colour coded bumpers on & a screen in the hatch!! Appears the plan with the decals has worked a treat then :D

If it's indoor use only lee it won't be UV resistant so will yellow/fade over time, go brittle and fall apart, should last a year being out for a couple weekends fine though :)

Unbelievably, it still has some travel, so should do the trick. With a bit of luck it will tow a little ass down, which means more weight will be transferred over the wheels taking pressure of the hitch end.

Also added bumper stripes and some triangle reflectors

Then turned my attention to sprucing up the bbq

And spruced up the jockey wheel

i think your gonna get pulled the first time you take it out... looks dodgy as feck IMO.

would have been better if you just used the loon backend. an plated the big hole up like they do with the trailers, then used the loon boot as a bbq.

No it wouldn't, it would have been boring. And they can pull me as much as they like, its as safe as houses and 100% legal. SO to put it politely, go and boil your head :)

+1

We had many a discussion about "just" using one end of a car & welding a mahoosive wind trap of a plate over the open end, it looks gash & has been done to death.
