Wht not use glass in the tailgate?
To keep the noseweight down Paul, due to the axle being set further back we needed to keep the front end weight down, and you know how much the glass in a tailgate weighs!
Before i started i wanted to be able to lift the trailer by the hitch with one arm, and we've achieved this easily :)
Bet it handles better lol
i once had a sort of a race against a tuned up reliant. i was cat & mousing him up to ninety (seriously), he had it lowered & with a passenger in, it was surprisingly well balanced.. then i got bored of him and floored it & buggered off
Just showed the wife this picture and she said "it looks like a reliant robin" lol I then scrolled down and you spoiled my post
It needs a white pinstripe carrying on down the front erm back door oh I'm confused lol
Love it btw :)
Cheers :) Unfortunately, the front and rear bumpers are not at the same height, so continuing the pinstripe wouldn't look right.

How about a gsi skirt in white then, just something to break the door up a little.

No it wouldn't, it would have been boring. And they can pull me as much as they like, its as safe as houses and 100% legal. SO to put it politely, go and boil your head :)
in that case have fun...

I did think the same but if it's at an angle it will look :tard:

Ah yes, talking of the junky doners, the saloon had a wobbly rear wheel, and I was worried the beam may have had a whack on a kerb as it looked like one wheel was sticking out further than the other. Turns out at some point in its life, it had alloys, and on one side, the noob who put the steelies back on had left a collar on one of the hubs, so the steel had just been done up against the collar rather than seated against the drum lol lol
No wonder it was sat out and wobbling like fury! Looks like the beam is fine :)
I hate side bump strips so thats a no, but i will try something tomorrow that may work, we'll see :)
Looks good :)
at least your doing it properly unlike someone else on this forum...
Keep it up. :thumb:
Seeing as you posted this on someone elses trailer thread, pray tell why this hasn't been done properly? i take it you are some kind of structural engineer and I have made a cataclysmic error, so for god sake please tell me before i cause a horrific accident.
Or, as I suspect, you are just a pathetic tool who just enjoys arguing on the internet. I dont care if you dont like it, feel free to slag it off to your hearts content, but I DO care when someone starts saying I have done something improperly, therefore state your reason or STFO.
I saw the same and thought it was a bit of a handbags moment... Looks cracking to me and probably far beyond my own abilities, at least to knock it up as quick as you have!

I Cant see how he can say thats mines being done properly and yours isnt Lee, I cant even say myslef that mines been done properly.
Even after all the box section ive put in, im still not 100% sure that its going to work. I think i worry abit to much though.

Ive had the same worries pal lol, but the forces acting on such a light trailer wont even slightly worry your beast. I took a long look at my car trailer before I sold it, and some bits on that were properly flimsy, but my Nova never ended up on the embankment! lol
There's more chance of a loaded trailer trying to bend your hitch up from bumps rather than tear it out, so long as there's provision for that you'll be fine :)

this is just truely amazing :)
Yeah i think im just playing on the cautious side. Ive even bolted the main beam through the trailer as well as welding it.
What did you about the rear suspension on yours? Ive but spring clamps in to bring the height down. It sat so high due to lack of weight.
80mm rear springs on this I believe :thumb:

Depends on what you plan on hauling with it. if its never going to take much weight, i dont see why grinding off the odd coil would hurt, the same rules dont apply to trailers as they do cars lol
Anyhoo, to my idea i had. A few people mentioned the door needed breaking up, and I had enough trim stripe to do this. When I first put it on, I was undecided (added to the fact the zig zag isn't as fat on the other side due to the way the bumpers have been bodged on lol) BUT I left it on all day and its grown on me considerably. It can stay for now anyway.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/04042010231.jpg
Re installed the bbq to see how it all looked painted up. Quality is the answer :) Just got to clean up the grates now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/04042010232.jpg
Added last years billing badge which i had kept all this time especially for the loonaque. Hopefully plenty more of those to be added in the coming years
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/04042010233.jpg
Then I turned my attention to the interior. Had a load of carpet which i kept from the loon when we stripped it, so cut a load of bits up and made a reasonable job of the front part (as I said before, this was never intended to win any prizes, its function over form all the way)
And you may be wondering why we left the seat runners in? They will be perfect as tie down points for all the club gubbins!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/04042010234.jpg
Cut up the old boot floor carpet to fit on the back half
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/04042010235.jpg
Then just had to add the cusions again lol. Sat in it for a while and pondered about life. I think they can stay for now despite being garish and not matching the colour scheme at all lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/04042010236.jpg
All that left is to sort the roof lining, and then some proper fun making some condiment attachments for the back end for ketchup etc.. (Hopefully Mike will be back for that) Also got to add a fire extinguisher, and I think we'll be there for now!
Only issue I have is a problem Ive created with the back end with the fold down rear panel. The water that runs into the gulleys either side of the bootlid will now run straight into the boot lol. I have a few ideas for a solution, the most likely will probably be to block up the gulley as far back as I can, and drill a drain hole each side connected to some rubber pipe running down and out of the rear quarters behind the bumper.
Now i'm confused, theres seat runners in the boot! erm, one of the boots... lol

How very dare you lol Mike and i talked about stuff like this before we even started. one of my pet hates with other car based trailers (as well as a flat sheet of metal as a front end) is still having an exhaust. Its a farking trailer, it doesn't need an exhaust :wtf:lol. In fact, one of the bonuses of a MK2 is there is no unsightly hole in the bumper for one. The only reason i would have kept the zorst was if it was functional bolted up to a generator, but even then it would just have fumed out whoever was cooking, and Ive dumped the genny idea for a 12v system instead, so NO was my resounding decision :thumb:
you put bolt on exhaust tat on the van though... lol

Is this legal?
As wont it need some form of testing? like load bearing?
Or can I build a trailer, and get pulled, but say its ok, I say it can take 5t for example?

I think theirs a basic test they have to undergo, not too sure though, just stuff like working lights, safety cable etc etc

Light trailers dont appear to come under any requirement for testing, so long as its under 750 kilos afaik.

and this is over spec for 750kg because you have actually got it braked.
i donated a nova beam for a trailer once, we had to narrow it 8" and fit it upside down. i have seen it with 2.5t on it, and it never bent at all.
and this is over spec for 750kg because you have actually got it braked.

Yup, that was my theory, even though I only fitted the braking hitch to use the handbrake, its a bit of belt and braces for the plod if they want to get anal ;)

That truely does look excellent!
Didnt have much on today so decided to have a mince about in the barn again.
As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the fold down rear panel created a big problem, ie any rainwater that flows into the gulley around the boot seal will now flow straight into the boot! To remedy this, I decided to build a dam, and directly behind it drill a big hole and use some water hose to direct the water under the floor.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20042010252.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20042010253.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20042010254.jpg
Once that was out the way, I continued garnishing the cooking area lol
Shelf added for cooked stuff (should be a reasonably warm area)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20042010255.jpg
Folds up and locks flat to the boot lid
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20042010258.jpg
Then added some hooks and popped up the road to purchace some cooking utensils. Looks more like a kitchen now lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20042010260.jpg
All this extra weight basically meant the shelf was useless because as soon as you put any weight on it, the bootlid tries to shut itself! Easily remidied with a fook off bolt lock
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20042010259.jpg
Extinguisher just in case lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20042010261.jpg
Then thought it might be wise to see if I can get all the club gubbins in it. It all fits apart from Daddy Gazeebo, so he'll have to ride in the van like a loner!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Bottlethroddy/20042010262.jpg
I think thats the thing prety much finished. I want to get a small fold up trestle table that can be sat next to the bbq, but that can be slung in anytime :)
lee, now i've seen the final barbie installation, can i advise you to make some sort of heatshield cos i fear that paint will burn off the bootlid on the first firing.

Shouldnt do, none of the bootlid is actualy directly over the bbq. If it does singe the paint, ill look into a shield of some sort, but at the mo i dont think its going to be an issue.

with the stock ish nova rear lights, isnt there already a reflector???? if so, then you didn't really need the triangle reflectors......... or was this a deliberate act to convince motorists that it really was a trailer?
