Bolted the front wings and onnet in it final place. I used M5 ss allen bolts and nuts with ss penny washers. Really finishes it off, forgot to take a picture in the rush to get the car finished for the 9th of next month lol

[quote=novalovingned]Quick update.........
Discs and pads on.
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s3/novalovingned/April10Nova036.jpg
you havent got the calipers fitted correctly there mate,
the spring clip should be on the other side of the caliper carrier bracket.
other thing the pads don't look right for the discs?
looks like the pad is to wide for the width of the disc face
(looks like its running on the cooling fins on the middle of the disc,
or is it my eye's) :thumb:
or it could just be that the clips wrong???????????
novalovingned
26-04-10, 11:29 PM
See what you mean mate. I thought the outer pad carrier looked wonky. lol Will get that retaining springs on the rite side, good spot :)
The pads are correct though. Its just the way they were seated at that point when i took the picture.
no problem fella,
i looked at it for a couple of seconds thinking
there's something not quite right. ;)

Took it out the lock up tonight as the wheels are now on. Its ready to go minus painting the back bumper an fitting it properly, fitting the exhaust and bleeding the brakes again.
Oh and small matter of my cambelt snapping tonight lol Will whack on another tomorrow and hope for the best, heres hoping im very lucky and have no bent valves. **** happens though lol
Imo looks good with the white cesaros :)

looks good, needs dropping on the back end though lol
novalovingned
07-05-10, 10:10 PM
Once the springs settle im sure it will be fine. Im not intending to lower it anymore at the back :)
what springs is it on? looks about -20mm to me, so maybe 60's with a stripped back end? that's about where mine sat on 60's I think.
novalovingned
07-05-10, 10:15 PM
Yeah its 60mm rear springs that are on it.
is tough to judge with stripped rear end but that's very high compared to the front, I tried 100's and that went a bit too far. Maybe worth looking at 80's to get it to sit at a genuine 60mm
Finally it sees day light lol
Unlucky on the belt, fingers crossed no valve damage.
What a real beauty mate excellent work, you should be dead proud.
Get a belt cover on it, might help :D
Looks nice though bud

I really dont know what happend mate. The thin backing plate on the water pump had taken a chunk of of the belt though :wtf: was just sitting on idle when i snapped?
New belt on and it fired up though........... No bent valves :d took it for a rasp and it was fun. Not very reponsive when the foot is planted, timing must be slightly out. Im going to advance the timing on the cam a couple of degrees and see what happens lol
First thing i done was hold the revs at 6000rpm when the engine was hot and pinged the clutch. Have been waiting for 5 years to do it lol

Not to keen on that scott. I feel that the A reg needs something but i also like the clean look.
Muzzy C20tbo is the only thing thats stopping me painting the cage blue lol Dont want it to look to similar tbh. I know whats coming from the local neds though "Your just copying that turbo nova"
C20tbo is still the best nova in or around Aberdeen imo. But the money thats been chucked at that thing im not surprised

Yeah the blue cage looks really good, not had a proper look at C20TBO since Mitsu had it, I would imagine it is still in as good condition as it was before.

And i recieved the next engine on sat. Its a c16xe from my old corsa gsi :d It was a cracking engine. I sold it to a friend 2 years ago, he then sold it to a friend and it sat in his garage for a year and a half. So its done 0 miles since it was taken from the gsi .

Craig: It is indeed cut. Why i dont know. Will be getting a replacment lower inlet at some point. I fancy having a go at making my own upper inlet at some point too. Something like the "power box" but without the stupid price tag :)
Cheeze has been at me to run carbs and megajolt, still an option but will have to see how cash goes.
Muzzy: It is an xe mate, a baby xe :d toyed with the idea of buying your friends one, but just dont have the money atm.
Damn beat me to it ;)
Craig the inlet was going to be a attempt at the homemade one for R1s but i got the offer of my 2.1 so it was never finished.

will you be making the trek down to billing? would be awesome to see it.

Small update.
Ive ordered some graphics. Not over the top but ive taken some insperation from a White manta 400 with white wheels
As some of you may know ive been having problems with my sump. So ive decided to use a c16xe cast sump with built in baffles. It ties in well with the F15 box im running as the sump also acts as a flywheel cover plate.
So first things first, had to clean it. So removed all the baffle plates. Out to the steam cleaner. 2 minutes later.........

Wanted to do something that wasnt that common, but didnt look too wrong on a nova. Did'nt want sport colours as it was'nt a sport but liked the design. Did'nt want dealer sport colours as thats been done to death so i went for the opel colours in the sport design :d
These are by no means the finished thing. Plan is to put these on and when the car finally hits the road im going to drive to the local vinyl company, get them to make replicas and fit them.
This is just to see if i like them :)

That looks awesome dude!
I use to have some vinyl on mine last year, i used the Irmscher/Opel theme as an idea, but also thought about the sport too to get my final look, then just before PV this year i got the side's resprayed, and had the vinyl replaced in paint etc..

Keep at it Ned. It will be worth it for the grin in the end & I'd say the car looks far from sorry in that pic, it could have forced rust & a VW badge on it! lol
Cheers buddy, like you said it will be worth it in the end.
If it returns 1 trackday this year i will be a very happy man :d

Bit of an update.
Took a wee road trip to Ayrshire to pick up a c16xe, there getting hard to find these days. I already had a c16 in the workshop but it was just a bare engine and needed another for all the missing parts lol
So stripped the donor.

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s3/novalovingned/P1080844Large.jpg
So started to clean up the block that i will be using, was out of my old corsa gsi, cracking engine no faults at all.

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s3/novalovingned/P1080845Large.jpg
Took ages to change all 16 lol
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s3/novalovingned/P1080846Large.jpg
Some time later i bolted it all back together with new head gasket, head bolts, valve stem seals, cam shaft gaskets, idler pullys, auto tensioner, water pump, timing belt, oil filter and sump gasket.

The other nova beside mine is stevens 2.1, aka Cheeze on here, Scorge is next door lol
The 8v has been nothing but a pain in the **** tbh Scott. I will be keeping it as i've always wanted to build a 8v turbo engine for the nova, so it will come in handy.
I was all set to put the c16 into the wifes corsa as the 1.4 8v auto is returning less than 25mpg, but she now wants a different coloured corsa now lol
So i might make it to knockhill yet :wtf:

Not to keen on that scott. I feel that the A reg needs something but i also like the clean look.
Muzzy C20tbo is the only thing thats stopping me painting the cage blue lol Dont want it to look to similar tbh. I know whats coming from the local neds though "Your just copying that turbo nova"
C20tbo is still the best nova in or around Aberdeen imo. But the money thats been chucked at that thing im not surprised

Well everything hooked up and running, all is well :) runs fine apart from a tps or speedsender issue. but have a digital dash coming so that sorts out the speed sender and im sure i have a x16xe tps laying about, hope its the same a the c16xe setup? If anyone could shed any light on that it would be a great help.
Anyway this is how it looks minus tidying up the engine loom and fit the engine cover. Needs a bloody good clean too lol

It still looks great. One of my fave builds on here.
Boyd, just measure what sizes & angles you require & look on ebay or call a Samco/Roose supplier. You should see what is available in terms of reducing bends etc or close to what you require.
novalovingned
20-04-11, 11:29 PM
Cheers Guys, means a lot :)
I used an old 90 samco bend an trimmed to suit, then I needed a 135 reducing bend from 80mm-60mm for the filter Im running. Had to settle for a 76mm-60mm so it was a tight fit on the afm.
Bit more progress tonight, I flashed up the fault codes as the car wouldn't hold idle after revving? Fault 22, Tps, swapped it over after a lot of cut hands and swearing I reset the ecu. Idles perfect and revs as it should. Test drive Saturday i hope :)

Not updated this in a while because nobody wants to read "tonight i sorted a small leak and fitted the alternator belt" lol
But it runs and runs well took it for a small drive but im limited to were i can go with no insurance etc.
So thought i would take a quick picture of how it looks 99% finished. It looks good next to my white mk4 van lol
So next up is insurance then mot. I tried to log the conversion with the dvla but they want a reciept for the engine change or a engineers report. But am i rite in thinking when its motd this is a form of report? I would have thought so as its being declared fit for the road if it passes?
anyway......

Dash was put on hold at the last minute, wanted everything put together to see if it worked. The added fact I had bought a digital dash just meant even more work, plenty of time for that come the winter :) yeah I really think the Opel colours work well against the White.
The steering wheel etc has to come off again though, theres a small click that doesn't sound right from inside the cowling, don't know if it has anything to do with the steering wheel boss? It's from a mk3 Astra?

Engine bay is going to be tidied up and painted again, couple of performance parts for the c16xe which will be manifold, inlet and GTE flywheel.
Painting the underneath White, running gear etc will be painted again, mk1 dash is going back in, new fuel and brake lines, move ecu and hide as much of the loom as i can, hopefully funds allow a new cage, or a front loop if one pops up.
First job is stripping the car back to a shell to get it on the spit for painting :)

Im seriously considering cutting the firewall to open everything up, more space the better. Also might paint the whole engine bay in a anthrecite colour leaving the slam panel etc white, could be a nice contrast of colours as my engine is silver and my bumpers etc are anthrecite already.............. have'nt decided yet, could just be white again lol!
The rear cage with door bars are now for sale, aswell as a 6 point luke harness, copper s charger, Astra gte digi dash with all plugs and transducer curve type fully working. if anyones interested let me know.

Those cards look great, really subtle classy touch!
Wow, those door cards look really nice. Can I ask how you did the rear ones with the recess. Did you wrap them in material?

30-01-13, 07:01 PM
Looks quite smart. What is it exactly is it a foam or felt kind of stuff. Did you manage to get an interior for it? The door cards would look smart with a black dash.
novalovingned
30-01-13, 07:19 PM
Cheers guys. Im pleased with them as its my first time doing anything to an interior lol
I wrapped everything in Acrylic felt. It has enough of a stretch to allow you to do the recess of the rear cards. Had to work out the creases as i went along but it was worth it in the end. Theres a picture a couple of pages back.
Rear arch cover was a nightmare to do, dreading doing the other side!

Are you still keeping the mk 1 dash in it? Recon it will look wierd with a grey dash, black door cards and seats.
How did you get on with your inlet manifold, has the engine fired up yet?

31-01-13, 05:15 PM
So what seats you fitting in it, you still keeping the buckets? Are you still keeping the mk 1 dash in it?
How did you get on with your inlet manifold, has the engine fired up yet?
Still fitting the sabelts but have to get the removable covers dyed from blue to black, either that or get the covers retrimmed. Will be fitting the mk1 dash again.
Inlet is done and fits well but haven't finished hooking everything up yet so running is a good bit away. Can't help thinking the inlet looks crap though lol going to paint it black, make in less noticeable!
In no rush though. Well not yet anyway ;)

31-01-13, 05:24 PM
I saw that when I went back a page. you must of typed your reply as I edited mine. Your probably better to re trim them cant imagine the dye working that well. be interesting to see the results.
A flocked mk1 dash would look nice.
Yeah my engine bay looked crap anyway so the inlet kinda blended in on my corsa. Yours looks like it sticks up further than mine did.
Come the fine weather youll be rushing again.

31-01-13, 05:44 PM
Yeah that could be just because the firewall has been removed. There's still around 20-30mm between the inlet and the bonnet so it's not to much of a problem. I'm always on the hunt for a sensibly priced mantzel.
I like the look of the opd inlets on eBay but there's a couple of things that don't look correct on it though. Like the tb flange, there's a clear hole where it should be solid to stop unmetered air entering the inlet.
Yeah that's true, mortgage saving just now though, can't justify paying mot, tax and a 3rd insurance policy :(

New stainless bolts and washers came for the cam cover and inlet, finishes it of nicely imo. Also decided to ditch the intake idea, it will come back down beside the headlight again.
Next up is making the removable firewall.
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s3/novalovingned/photo14-Copy.jpg
Do you not need to block up that hole in the side of the inlet manifold or is it just redundant as the EGR stuff has now been removed.?

08-02-13, 06:08 PM
No I still need to make up blanking plates mate, the templates for it are made though :) ill fit them once I take the inlet of to paint it black.

10-02-13, 09:21 PM
Well i painted the inlet black. looks 10x better now imo. Also made up the servo-inlet pipe. I used the corsa gsi attachment rubber as i think it looks a lot better than the screw on nova type. So drilled a 18mm hole in the end plate and that was it ready to fit.
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s3/novalovingned/9C31D993-A931-4B64-883C-8A4604680EB1-1511-0000024F5776AD1F_zpsb44f0f03.jpg

Yeah could be a nice contrast with the stitching on the seats.
Baz your seat mounts don't have to bolt to welded in bars. These seat mounts were in my clio cup before my nova. The existing clio seat mounts were adapted to fit the side mounts. Was a very neat job once done and allowed the seats to obviously move back and forwards :)
Who has the unenviable task of sorting that 205 rear beam then?? lol
