View Full Version : wireless bridging
Yeah, more wireless networking woes lol
Right. I'm thnking about setting up my home machines as so:
{Internet} -> Belkin FD7334 ~{wifi bridge}~ USR9106
PC1 hanging off the belkin router via ethernet, 192.168.2.3
PC2 hanging off the USR router via ethernet, 192.168.2.4
Belkin ip 192.168.2.1; DHCP disabled; ADSL connection fine; Enabled wireless bridging checked; SSID "belkin" on channel 2
USR ip 192.168.2.2; DHCP disabled; Wireless in AP mode, default gateway forced to 192.1868.2.1
Neither routers have any mac restricts or WPA/WEP shizzle at the moment.
buuut... its not working. Why? :p
Because in order to connect something, you need a physical object like wire or a piece of wood and nails. This wireless crap is just fail lol
I am thinking this
Anyone have a spare 15m ethernet cable I can steal? lol
Surely you can steal some from work cant ya jack and just run nine miles of cables around the house and have multiple "plug-in" points lol
I ran a cable up into the roof, across the loft, through an exterior wall (extension on the house) and back down both floors to get a wired connection. Sod wireless lol
Rented house though, so drilling holes in walls is a no no. I'm just annoyed that this isn't working. Don't like it when I can't make things work
Just drill the holes needed and say it was a massive mouse that was sh**ing wire as it ran through the holes lol
Run it through the house, before I routed mine properly it went across the landing down the stairs and into my room at the bottom lol Health and safety would have loved it, loads of hazards for them to write pages and pages of risks over :p

Not really up on pc connectivity but have you had the wireless routers working before your move? What operating system are you using? If vista are the routers compatable?
Just thoughts and probably no help
Both XP, SP3. I did have a wireless NIC in mine (PC2) connecting to the USR router which had the internet connection, and all was hunky dory. Then ADSL24 screwed up my internet, so in an attempt to get it working I thought I'd stick some security on. Epic fail, the NIC has never worked properly since then, hence the requirement to have both PCs cabled

Have you got a spare hd kicking about that you can put in as a additional drive with just the operating system and nothing else. Then install all your internet gubbins and not loose any vital things.

ive not read this properly, sorry its too early, but if your connecting the routers together you need a crossover not an ethernet, sorry if this was a pointless reply!
The routers are connected via wireless. Hence wireless bridging :)
The ethernet cables are connecting each PC to each router.
