Will be checking in here as much as poss, although it just took me about 5 mins to load the pics :(
wonder if this engine will last longer tho ;) lol
looks good hobbit, be ready for the castle coombe action day then ?
Epic engine transporting skills, proper job that is lol I wasn't quite on the same level chucking my 1.6 8v's straight in the back of the Nova lol
Progress???
Umm...
Still collecting bits, got an f20, solid engine mounts, few little engine bits, Omp wheel.
Waiting on some bolts off Colin so i can get the engine on a stand.
Oh and got a tow bar on the Omega lol
Ahem? Avatar hints to progress?????????? :)
and those wheels looks familiar, speedline 2118? :d
got one of the wings fitted, but the lights dont fit. Gotta love these Nova build tolerances lol
I'll update this when i make real progress, I dont see the point in bumping the tread with "Oh lookie, i bought a bolt..."
lol , will be good to see it back together again matey
Good buy, tis a very good shell! :)

Ah not seen this before. Should be a good one for you to thrash as previous owner did.
Are you going to change the outside to put your mark on it, or keeping it as "Lees old car". lol

Think he's hoping to keep all the rods inside the block actually lol

Are you going to change the outside to put your mark on it, or keeping it as "Lees old car". lol
Hmmm, Different shades of blue and pirate stickers? lol lol
It will be all the original blue including the bumpers lol plus some yellowness (thats all im saying) plus it will be sporting some wide arches. :thumb:
any updates on this mate?
The nova now has a new home
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/Track%20nova%20build/001-3.jpg
Its an old cow shed, it has a lower bit in the middle, two raised bits either side. Would be nice to have somewhere flat but this is a decent size and cheap :)
All our stuff is crammed in the middle at the moment as they are doing a bit of concrete work to make the outside bits more usable.

Measure the Justy up I'm sure you could make the Nova 4x4 easy enough as the wheel base must be similar :d

In what way does the center bracket from the equal drive shafts not fit?
I got the set up from a v6 calibra so i'm guessing I need a different bracket as none of the holes line up on the block.

Oh god your not going to do the wiring are you :|
Bit slow on the wiring front today as Russ kept getting interupted by proper customers lol
So while he was out the way I bunged on the wings and fibreglass skirts.

£5 on it blowing the rods out on start up as a final tribute? lol
It runs :wisewood: Tis a bit of a lash up, has a shonky astra diesel header tank, gear linkage needs looking at (but can get first and reverse :thumb:) Has some electrical gremlins. Has a pikey max power air filter. Is sitting on standard 1 litre suspension. Wont have time to polish it. But meh. Its coming :d
Just uploading pics

Bout time I pulled my finger out and finished this lol
Picked up a heated screen off Spanishfly at the weekend,
Old screen out and new one lined up...

Hopefully I should keep the updates flowing now. Plan is to have it out on track by the spring action day :thumb:
That sticker is awesome
Heated screen is cool aswell,
Good to see progress Mr Hobbit :thumb:
Oops, last update was 9 months ago.. lol
Well with moving house and getting a new job I dont really have time to finish it, so i've decided to break it...
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/novbuildstripped.jpg
not really, just dropped it down to Russ again for him to finish, I've changed my mind on the engine front
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/novbuildeng2.jpg
Z32SE removed from a Vec C GSI, has had a few bits done, From Mr Dixons for sale ad...
3.2V6 engine with modified 2.5 heads (gas flowed), G & J cams, new steel head gaskets, new water pump, new timing belt kit, rst spark plugs, new 8mm red silicone ignition leads, modified inlets from c25xe inlcuding loom and ecu. The engine should be putting out around 240bhp+, they are standard at 218 but this is not standard. the engine is running on cav v6 loom, ecu and manifolds, the compression should be up to the same as the early v6 engines
Although the engine hadn't long been "rebuilt" Russ decided to do the cambelt, good job as one of the cam pullys was about to fall off :wtf:
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/novbuildeng1.jpg
also added some ally rocker covers with GM gaskets to lower oil mpg lol
Obviously the standard XE clutch wont take the power so I picked the paddle clutch off ebay, plus a lightweight flat type billet fly off WillF, got the paddle recovered and the fly skimmed for 85 quid which seems a fair price.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/novbuildpaddle.jpg
and finally engine in,
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/novbuildengin.jpg
Russ is working on this when he doesn't have real customers cars to work on, so progress will still be slow.
How does a cam pulley fail?
Cam belt is a must change no matter how old in my eyes.
Looking good dude.

Oh very nice, I thought the 'mega was donating it's heart for the cause though?
Oh very nice, I thought the 'mega was donating it's heart for the cause though?
It has, I put the 3.2 in the mega for a couple of months when the head gasket went on the 2.,5. the mega is now cube shaped ;)
and Benn, cam pully was about to fall off as bolt wasn't tight.
Standard xe clutch would of been fine imo.
Anyhows, 3.2 looks pretty well in that tight bay. Should certainly have plenty of go.

You ****ing mentalist! lol love it..
If you happen to have any yellow pipes spare that you cant use chuck them my way, and i had never looked fully through this, i forgot you had that brace of mine, lol that things got around! i cant remember where i got it from now?
Has it a new home again?
Scott
Hmm, not checked to see if it will fit over the V6, will see.
how many yellow pipes do you need, you coming to the summer action day?

23-08-11, 07:09 PM
Whens that? I'm pretty skint, as no job, and have bad back at mo..
Depends what you have pipe wise mate
10th of Sept, I've not used any of it yet. Still not sure if I'll use it or just go buy the proper fire proof stuff.

An XE clutch would have been fine?
It cant be that much past 240bhp can it?
A standard xe clutch built for 150bhp would be fine for constant abuse from 240bhp ish v6 round combe? Mmm kay, think I'll cover my **** with a half decent clutch.
And anyway, did I "need" omp carbon fibre bucket seat, or a quiafe lsd, or did I "need" to paint my fibreglass panels? So why are we grumbling over a couple of quid for a refurbed clutch? :wtf:
scott.parker
24-08-11, 10:16 AM
Dude imo that clutch is the best thing you will have replaced, it wont have cost much more then a standard plate either, and in my own experience with mine there the best thing you can fit/use, as at least I'm burning out my tyres and not my clutch! lol plus with an lsd you would burn the standard clutch with that much power imo, who wants slippage?
Ok it might of been why my drive shafts has been killed and both cv's were mashed, but least i know where the power is going and not being lost in slip, so i say cracking purchase!
Scott
Awesome engine stuff :d
Is that going to weigh much more than a LET/F28 set up then?
mr hobbit, are you and jack having a game of `whos engine exits the bay first` nowlol
No, who has the biggest engine, this puts me ahead. For a bit lol

**** that's going to be a beast. Oh and nom nom nom on the wheels
**** that's going to be a beast and nom nom nom on the wheels
Corrected a touch, as the engine is going to nom nom nom most things in it's way lol
RWD to FWD conversion fail, Engine over the front axle by 6 inches fail, creating something I'd actually think twice about stepping into on a trackday, win lol :d
Kinda update, as I no longer have a daily, this is now getting made road legal and will be made a little more user friendly...
so long range tank is coming out...
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/utf-8BcGhvdG90YW5rLmpwZw.jpg
so I can have a working fuel gauge and wont have to take the boot off to fill it up lol
also fitting a full dash back in and a key start so i can take it to the shops without it getting robbed (as easily) Should also make it a bit more insurable.
Russ has this in as a breaker...
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/utf-8BcGhvdG9zeGkxLmpwZw.jpg
is a shame really as its not a bad car but he wants the pannels and I want the interior bits lol

Will you be parking it up in our works car park then ? :) always nice to have a look at someone else's nova
Hope I don't see you about in it when the Sports on the road as it's never nice to get creamed by another nova, that beast of a engine will destroy my 1300 lol
Will you be parking it up in our works car park then ? :) always nice to have a look at someone else's nova
Will still be getting dropped off and picked up by Donna but if she goes away for the week I might use it. This is why I'm putting a proper dash and key start back in. Don't think I'd fancy leaving it there with its current level of security lol

I think I prefer it with a full dash.
Nova's need a dash, mk2 ones preferably as that gives you a nice base to stand your drink on when you go to the drive-thru lol
I'm so taking it through the drive through so i can watch thier face as a demand they post my big mac though the small hole in my poly carb windows lol
I'm so taking it through the drive through so i can watch thier face as a demand they post my big mac though the small hole in my poly carb windows lol
FLOL, you need to have a camera going for that one and post the vid on here lol
Reminds me of the old Clarkson vid 'unleashed on cars' and he is driving a countash, he says that about the pitiful little window drop on those, 'imagine trying to order a big mac, through that' lol
I recognise that OMP wheel lol
I should work out who's donated what. Its a bit of a png parts for sale special lol
I should work out who's donated what. Its a bit of a png parts for sale special lol
No shame in that mate. Got Bored was built mostly from parts of friends or friends of friends race, rally or track cars (here aswell as elsewhere).
No shame :) the carbon fibre seats are out of a Ferrari race car which I think is pretty cool.
Coming together nicely Hobbit.
Top job
feels like a big hurdle with dash and loom in but it going to be a laugh when ive finished it in a striaght line that is he should get a season past at santa pod rather than a track lol
it is sitting to the drivers side due to the heavy v6 lol it going to handle like a dream
it going to handle like a dream
Certainly will - even mine with the 3 ton inlet, road tyres and road suspension clawed its way round combe surprisingly well
Its still sat on 1 litre springs at the front. No wonder its not sat right!
surely thats gona be scary with EPAS mines all over the place as it is and my steerings heavy lol
its adjustable so should be ok :) Plus the atb should help it pull straight ;)

I trailered it to Billing 2010 :p
Right, Russ has been a bit busy but with the gritters coming out to play soon its not going onto the road till spring time anyway.
Got some Dunlop slicks for my spare wheels...
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/trackslicks.jpg
Gsi rad fitted, they've made up some brackets to space out the drivers side. It just gives a bit more space for a hose and eliminates the chance of the hose kinking.

Big jobs left are exhaust and wiring.
Have you still got the in-car tank?
Have you still got the in-car tank?
yarp, guess you'll have a prop running through where the standard tank sits
Yeah. lol
Might purchase that off you when I unleash the whippet onto the saloon lol

Good work!!! How comes the oz's didnt fit?
Et49 and 15x7 so they touch on the track rod end on the front and the inner arch on the back. Was always gonna be a long shot, so not really surprised.
Drive it to work when its done ? :d
Thats a shame, there epic wheels.
Still want to go wide track/arch one day so will just save them till then.

all thats left is wiring in the epas and bunging it in for an MOT... oh and the little clutch problemo.
Tappy tappy tappy, bloody GM engines lol
dosn't sound that bad in real life. the vid makes it sound that way though...
Nice
