View Full Version : Hobbits garage (3.2 Nova/Isuzu'd mk4/T4 bus..)
Cheers for all the comments and Merris dont be such a pussy, I thought you'd aprove of a nova built to smoke its rubber lol
i dont see any smoking rubber lol, get them wheels spinning!!!
Wouldn't want to upset the PNG fun police, best wait for its first 1/4 mile to do a burnout...
shweeeeet :)
Gotta love the V6 ticking! Mine was exactly the same!
Spot on mr hobbity thats ace, is the rev counter reading correctly though as it seems to rev up damn quick (or is it over reading and thats why it revs off the scale LOL)
Btw whats those white and yellow things with the numbers and letter on them sitting at the front and the back, its never had those on before lol
Rev counter is wrong as is getting a 6 pot signal not 4. Would be nice if it reved up like that for real lol
I did think that but wasnt sure as it seems to show idle in the right place lol

I did think that but wasnt sure as it seems to show idle in the right place lol
I was going to ask about that as it looks more accurate than mine, Im building an x25xe nova and the rev guage is way out with the 6 pulses instead of 4. it displays idle as just under 1500, does look smart tho lol
Err, who ordered the shonky gm wheels...?
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/photo-12.jpg
Doesn't look too bad imo. few more pics...

Epas all sorted. needed to buy a new controller as the one i got with the column easy fubar. not much left to do really. oh and all the auxiliary gauges on the gsi clocks now work so not gonna bother with separate gauges.
I dunno what dodgy porn Russ has been watching but he sent me this filth lol
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/photo-6-1.jpg
also anyone wanna buy Russ' v8?
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/photo-10-1.jpg
What V8 is it?
Keep those Super T's away from me, I might steal them for the cav lol
When's it getting a 6.7 LTR engine to match the plates? lol
V8 Westfield looks nuts :d Engine heavier than the car, correct proportions... I've also just noticed the filter seems to be above the exhaust and there's a shiny pipe heading towards the intake? Is it turbo'd as well? :o Or is that shiny pipe the top rad hose?
Its got a 4litre range rover lump. ally block iirc, so light as a small block... almost Lmao. And no boost but it it struggles as it is to get the power down.

Lol it will do untill your right foot gets used to that v6 noise lol
I had a V6 omega for a few years and never got bored of that noise, thats why I ended up V6'n the nova, couldn't live without the sound track. :d
cant beat a v6 noise - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvjuhqgQTP0 :d
Popped down to see Russ yesterday, had some poly bushes and cage padding from rally designs waiting.
So fitted the padding...
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/2012-03-09121818.jpg
Its also now sitting on billy shocks and custom spring.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/2012-03-09121802.jpg
The springs were a 50 mil drop, 400lb fronts and 300lb rears. The rears were a complete waist of time, not enough weight on the ass so was sat in the air. The fronts is ok but want it lower so coilovers are next on the list.
Also popped into doovla to register the 3.2 conversion.
i like! need any nova sport parts for it??
Stereo blank I can get flocked? lol
Bet they were a tad confused when they looked that you were declaring a 3.2 in a vauxhall nova lol
It was bad enough when I did my 3.0
Will be going back there for the 4.0 I think lol
Looks sweet
Driving it to work ? :d
Second week in April it might make an appearance. :)
Southie
14-03-12, 07:42 PM
In your honest opinion is it worth building a 3.2 Nova?
Don't ask me why but the cage padding makes the car lol. Looks great hobbit. Should bloody shift to :)
Not driven it yet so can't say lol
Edit (to sarfy)
i fitted the poly bushes to it the other day and what a difference. doesnt torque steer that much now and i hate to say it but it doesnt drive that bad now is going to be good fun when you get used to it:)
Will it not cost £5 to start it up? lol
it proberly will we have used nearly £40 in it to move it in and out the workshop and go up the road a hand full of times
it going to be juicy!lol
i fitted the poly bushes to it the other day and what a difference. doesnt torque steer that much now and i hate to say it but it doesnt drive that bad now is going to be good fun when you get used to it:)
:d Awesome! Surprised a few quids worth of bushes have made that much difference.
In your honest opinion is it worth building a 3.2 Nova?
why is it different to any LET? Power and Torque wise? Do you think it worth building a LET Nova lol Plus the V6 sits more central than a xe/let so will give better weight spread over the front. lol
:d awesome! Surprised a few quids worth of bushes have made that much difference.
even a set of std bushes will tighten up any novas handling dramatically after all these years.
Polybushes do make a big difference on the handling IMO
As for weight distribution, yes a LET has a turbo strapped on the front and the V6 is narrower, but I'd say the V6 will still have the weight further forward. Plus its more top-heavy so the centre of gravity is higher.
1. It'll still be a beast...
2. Its cornering will be somewhat dodgy due to the extra speed...
3. It'll probably turn high 30's mpg on a long trip...
Agreed with all of the above, the meg used to get mid 30's on a run and weighed easily twice as much. Although the uber light fly wheel won't help the cruising. But not really built it as a motorway muncher lol

That wasn't what I meant Nobster... I was after "his" opinion of what he thought on "his" progress on building a V6, not an overall opinion :p
My progress? Lmao. Ask Ron lol he's building it
As he's been totally against the whole idea of it and has now changed his mind I'm feeling pretty good. Only weeks left to drive it now and can't bloody wait!!! Keep checking the dvla website to see if the log book has been updated. I'm so sad... lol
Have you thought of filling the tyre well with concrete to balance it out??? lol ... But then you would need somewhere else to put the moonshine
I have thought about putting weight in the back as i'm convinced my old 1.2 handled better with a sub in the boot. Something to experiment with when i get it on track.
how the chuff did your omega make mid 30's on a run?!?!?! Mine would do 30 if I was really really lucky
To be fair i could be talking out my ****. Slept since then lol sure it got into the 30's though. The 3.2 was way better on fuel than the 2.5 though. Guess it wasn't working so hard to get the 2 tonnes moving.
I have thought about putting weight in the back as i'm convinced my old 1.2 handled better with a sub in the boot. Something to experiment with when i get it on track.
Spare wheel and massive battery should replicate the subwoofer weight lol
Spare wheel is a good call. could get a rally style mount  Already got a full size battery in the boot.
Omp do a mount with built in brace, sweet. :)

I used to run track days with my sub in the boot and full interior. Car had enough power to pull away from most things and just felt more planted than when it was stripped out.

Out of interest how much is the tax on this thirsty beast Mr Hobbit?
It'll be on the old <> 1500cc rates, so £220 a year.
Is that Southie?
And yeah, 220 per year.

Band K - £270, so £50 cheaper by putting it in a shonky rustbucket lol
When I was paying for all three cars, that was £645 a year in VED :wtf: not to mention fuel duty, VAT and IPT. Mmmm, taxy lol
No, moving back in with my Dad for a bit so can save for a house. He's down Eastbourne way. will be moving back in a year or so though. Mrs Hobbit loves the area :)
Not sure on taking it to work. see how brave i feel lol
and Jack, sod paying for 3 cars! Saying that I might get a daily, and possibly a camper one day. But that's different lol

Full kits are SOOOOOOOOOOO cheap now youd be a fool not to! I paid under £200 for both my kits (one 11lb, one 5lb) both are WON an came with pulsiods & the 5lb kit even came with a digi controller.
also fix my bonnet as that cant be helping.
Rope, fiber glass it on the under side at the front. Give 5% the strength, but hardly any extra weight.

Only problem was it was listed with eml light on and hesitates now and again, but it was cheap so thought it was worth a gamble... lol
Made it 25 miles before it get go. lol Turns out the oil and water were mixing in the oil cooler and I just kept driving till it seized :d So I dragged it to my friendly vauxhall specialist nd told Russ and Ron to deal with it. lol

I do like a nice mk4 van. The guy who recently bought my shell turned up in a bagged new MINI metallic grey one on Porsche wheels, cambered rear beam with estate sunroof roof skin, Porsche seats and steering wheel, euro look GSi kit, FMIC etc. Very nice.

Is it fairly easy to convert it to 8v td? I know the mechanicals will be straight forward but is there any complications with electronics etc??
davidfox280585

Is it fairly easy to convert it to 8v td? I know the mechanicals will be straight forward but is there any complications with electronics etc??
no though the crank sensor still needs to require a signal to kick the ecu into life as the 8v td doesnt have one,
so i tapped the green rev counter wire (spare pin )on the 16v alternator into the brown/blue iirc crank sensor wire which sorted it,then got chop happy removed all old sensor wiring and job sorted,
the conversion on my combo parts used were,
1.7dti engine mount
1.7td 8v engine with 8v timing setup
1.7dti alternator and bracketry and charge loom to keep it looking pukka!
dti flywheel and clutch
dti starter motor
dti thermostat housing as this part of the dti loom plugs into the temp sensor and runs as factory
one thing on the corsa combo and probally astra is you need to retain the ecu to retain the clocks working and also on corsa combo the ecu triggers the eps into life!!!
though triggering the ecu via rev counter from alternator overreads on the clocks on the rev needle so i removed my needle and thought meh!
Engine in...

Is that because of the floods last year at billing then dude, rock up and park up and thats it youre done, come hell or high water, youre staying put at billing lol
Pretty much yeah. lol Our tent died at Billing, we were looking for a new one, then this came up cheap. Plus now we're already packed for Nats. :d
the old saying goes 'where thar's muck thar's brass'
i guess your bonus got the vw?
Excellent show bus. I assume you'll tow the nova with it?
Yeah, got a trailer already, should be much more comfy than squeezing into the nova.
Mowgli, last months overtime covered the bus. lol
That looks awesome.. you even have fancy looking tiles! lol
Im already dreading having to pack up for the shows and put the tent up..Think we will have to get a wagon!

Did you use the y17 or x17 flywheel and starter?
I used my y17 as a donor and swapped the alt, starter, fly. Water pump. Alt tensioner and mount.
Yeah, we did the same.
Only problem is the lack if rev counter, but can live with that.
can't you take the feed off the isuzu alternator & use one of those doohickeys to change the revs like we stuck in the v6 at nats????
Using the dti alt that doesn't have a feed.
Same problem i have with mine, Dave had to remove the rev counter needle as it flies all over the shop apparently, but thats not a massive issue as it doesnt run atm lol
Today's van pimpage...

looks good that hobbit, i converted the back of my citreon relay so that there`s bed space in the middle and a tool area when you open the back doors, have you considered a drive away awaning? ive bought one for mine and it potentially doubles the "living space" the one i bought also comes with a seperate zip in bedroom. also for around £30 you can get an extension lead that plugs into camp site electrics that gives you 3 240v plug sockets that you can use in your van, i use mine to power the 19 inch tv lol
Van came with a drive away awning. Got a leisure battery which should cover lights and kettle got my weekend outings.

Removing the vw badge was a good idea lol
Thought I better drag the nova out and check it works before pvs.
Decided my rear bumper had too much bumper...
So got the angle grinder out.

Should let the air pass out the back easier.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/20130531_113916.jpg
Also decided I'd use the spare light Mr Parker donated to me for an air scoop. Its currently cooking away at gas mark 2

Lol cool glad the lights getting put to use. Miami blue the mofo.
Had some 300lb rear springs kicking around, I test fitted them before and didn't like how high it sat but I figure a higher stiffer back end will help at pv

Should get mike to craft you a nice CF diffuser to go under there
Want to put the exhaust in the middle and tucked up a bit, then I'll think about a diffuser.

Off the shelf ones are pap, if anyone else here has ever seen one tested in a wind tunnel you too would soon realise why. Badly designed non functional aftermarket tat.
Wind tunnel? Its a nova! lol
Wind tunnel? Its a nova! lol
No no, I mean just a generic XYZ car with an aftermarket rectangular type, straight finned diffuser.
I would only stick one on to tidy it up back there, I know I won't gain any down force.
a flat sheet of ally or plywood would make way more sense long before fitting a diffuser

You should have drilled out the bumper to spell out the word diffuser lol
a flat sheet of ally or plywood would make way more sense long before fitting a diffuser
To be fair the book floor is already flat. Its the sides that need tidying .
.
Wind tunnel? Its a nova! lol
Exactly, they have all the aerodynamics of a block of flats lol
Anyone got some speedlines? lol

Picked up a mk4 Astra splitter from Mr Parker at the weekend.
Just chucked it on with a couple of bolts to test fit, not bad imo.

Dude I love it, I never did try it on mine, that's going to get copied over and over by others, yes you can credit me, I'm a genius lol
But seriously I've not seen one fitted to a GSi bumper before, and if fitted nice and flush gives perfect lows and cold air feeds to brakes ;)
Powah!!!

im liking the look of them!
They are a work of art. Would be a shame to chop the **** out of them to clear my steering rack... :d
watch them intake welds now mr hobbit :)
So thats why you went to see mr dixon
So thats why you went to see mr dixon You stalking me?
Awesome, never had a stalker. :wisewood:
Vectra challenge car apparently.
So the car was pretty much faultless at Combe only issue was a heavy handed Lee snapping my shifter.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/20140502_095248.jpg
Luckily Russ had a replacement so that was a quick fix.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/20140502_095252.jpg
Not a fan of the pokemon knob but it gets me going again. Also turns out the old shifter had been straightened so the standard one monted backward is a much better fit, and no longer fouls the hydo handbrake.
Next up was Nos
Mr Jack popped round to helo with the wiring.

and pulsolinoids mounted under scuttle.

bit messy but that can be tidied up later.
Then on to testing, we tried a 25 shot and were pretty happy woth results, so we skipped 50 and went straight for 75... Oh my ****ing god it rips! Hopefully get it up to Pod tomorrow for some proper testing.

Is that Jack's head, looks like he's slowly joining my club lol
So we videos, an update about nos is pointless without warp time bending style videos.....
I tried to take video but failed due to the space time continuum tearing itself a new one. Passenger floor pan and intake welds are still intact though.
Next up, two bottles. Big one. We need them by TONIGHT
just nip over to harry's and get them in overnight
