Not reeally an update as ive been a lazy fooker & not done a fat lot!

Ade has been contacted about booking me bits in for paint so hopefully in next few weeks i will be dropping up to Crewe with some bits in the van for him to work his magic.

Picked the bumper 'L' brackets up yesterday.
As iam 'trying' to get the bumper to align up better when i trial fitted the wings i seemed to be at maximum adjustment on the bumper iron & wanted to shove it further accross so i dropped them last week at a local engineering company to machine the adjuster slots out left & right to give more movement. Hope it works!
Quick lick of paint & hey presto.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020771_zpsba1c3fdb.jpg

Hopefully my next update will be a picture of a van of parts going for paint :)

Benn
13-02-13, 09:05 AM
I've thought of doing the same^ The adjustment on the front holes (how i remove mine every time) isn't much and i think some times it could go just a bit more..

MARTIN KELSON

Had a little tat on the car over the weekend.
One of the only origonal Nova components was the radiator. At 22yrs old it was showing its age, so it was time for a change.

I came accross Mark Beeson's Nova turbo being broken so a deal was done & i was the owner of his ally radiator.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020772_zps29302bfb.jpg

Unsure on make, but its not a Chinese cheapo.
Then the task of fitting the damn think. One thing for sure, next time I take Nova to bits I will definetly be doing a removable slam pannel!

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020774_zps4383b72a.jpg

Decided this time to put the fan on the front just to tidy the bay up abit more.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020778_zpscbcde87e.jpg

Also sold my Kumho V70 track tyres & purchased some Toyo T1R's
The fit is much better, allot happier now, may even be able to lower it some more now!

Rad looks better, much betted with the fan on the front too. If you remove/make bolt in able the slam panel support bar, then you fan fit the rad in from the front.

Don't think it has yet,
I saw on Facebook he was breaking & contacted him.
Anything specific your after?

Didn't notice the intercooler.

Small update.
My bonnet, tailgate, front bumper, grille & wings were dropped off yesterday with Ade Culley to work his magic with his spray gun.
Hopefully get them back in a week or so then the build up can begin :)

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020887_zpsd6f94dcf.jpg

As iam not planning oh having a side repeater on my new wings ( i know naughty ) i needed to remove the bulb & secure the holder out of the way incase needed again at some time.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020890_zps39b74044.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020891_zpsc8c487f5.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020892_zps1172a833.jpg

The indicators are flashing fine without the bulb in, ive tried. At the moment i have no fronts or sides & the rear one still flashes as it should.
Quick bit of heatshring over the unit & cable tied out of the way.

Next job was radiator fan switch
I was going to run a external temp sensor as per previous posts, but as per Benn why dont i just use Vauxhall switch. No idea why i was trying to complicate matters!
The plug had been removed at some point so a quick trip to scrappy and a Corsa B was the same & stuck in my pocket!

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020893_zps0ec60113.jpg

Another job ticked of the to do list!

Next up, rocker cover.
Had a wee accident with this ages ago & a loose fuel fitting squirted fuel over the rocker at the bottom corner & ruined the powdercoat

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020897_zps59ae1be0.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020898_zps77d9c33f.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020902_zpse445d817.jpg

Off it came & dropped off today to be redone.
Popped into local Vauxhall dealer as i thought i would replace the rocker gasket whilst its off. £40.00 fecking quid for a gasket. I think not.
There about £15.00 online for a Payen one or the old one will be going back on!

Looking forward now to putting it back together & nearly ready for the summer!!

Nice to see the panels off to paint too.

MARTIN KELSON
27-03-13, 06:56 PM
How does it compare Benn?
Much difference to how yours sits?

Benn
27-03-13, 07:10 PM
Well my brace sits over the top 1/4 of the oil cap... (over the bolts that hold the cover down)
So quite abit.. But might be me moving everything for better shaft angle.

MARTIN KELSON
30-03-13, 05:17 PM
Had a couple of hours in the garage this afternoon.

First job was to paint the bumper bar.
It wasnt bad but a lick of satin black to spruce it up.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020904_zps38e24a94.jpg

And then refit

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020906_zps7f078b55.jpg

Next up was to remove the sideskirt clips from old wings
Now i have a small issue
The new wings gone for paint, i dont remember bthem having the 'tabs' on the wing to hold the clips on.
My question is, what has everybody else used?

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020908_zpsb41ac51c.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020907_zps22e87b34.jpg

I supose the wings were for a non sideskirt model

Bits will be back from Ade Culley next Saturday & the build back up will start.
Quite excited to see it back together :)

MARTIN KELSON

Do you use a normal rivet gun & drill a hole in the wing as per normal riverting?

I used self tappers on my old one

They are a different type of rivet head that are welded on Martin. We still use them now on certain jaguars to hold trim pieces on....... I'd give ade a shout pronto so he can sort it properly for you. If you can't source any let me know and I will check what sizes we have for you.

Nick.

Thanks Nick,

Too late, wings I think are painted already!
Sure I will sort something.
Worst case, I have the clips, I will have to use normal rivets to attach the clip.

Graeme

I wouldn't drill the wing it will just promote rust or bare metal just tiger seal that first clip on

Ah we'll not to worry... If your drilling/riveting I'd touch up the holes and rivet heads with some paint then just wax oil inside and out and they'll last years.. Especially with it only seeing dry weather use etc.

Nick.

Well hopefully picking the painted bits up tomorrow, aslong as i can fit them all flat in the van.
Iam told although the paint is dry its not hard enough fo me to stand upright in the van & strap them, so i will bring back whatever i can fit in.

Few pics Ade sent me in the week.

This was just a quick trial fit, quite happy with this passenger side but just couldnt get the drivers side anywhere near right.
Just couldnt get the bumper to fit anywhere near right with the wing on that side, anyway fealt lowzy so called it a day at this point.
I will pop back Saturday i think & have another go & see if i can get it sort of correct.

Only a few weeks left as May 1st is usual back on the road deadline - must pull me finger out!

Benn

Fit looks great, i have to sit and line the bumper up, as it will always sit to far out on one side, like its a little bit to wide..
So glad you've gone back to a slatted grille too. Front end looks great.

Do you know if this out of the gun finish? Or has it been flat and polished?

After a tat in the garage last Saturday its almost back together & ready for the road :)

First job was to fit the headlights. I had decided i was going to use rivnuts & stainless allen bolts to hold them in so a mark up, drill & install the M6 rivnut was order of the day

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020927_zps031a8f8c.jpg (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/NOVAMARTIN16V/media/P1020927_zps031a8f8c.jpg.html)

Non genuine indicators & there rubbish as you can see, so on lookout for new genuine items if anybody has any.

Next job was to fit the bonnet striker & latch.
What a tw*t i was, i dropped the bonnet latch, bolt & spring & where should it land, right on the strut brace!

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1020932_zpsf42c2fe8.jpg (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/NOVAMARTIN16V/media/P1020932_zpsf42c2fe8.jpg.html)

New plates came yesterday too.

Is it the only known piece of glass in the UK nova circles anyway?

Dont know mate.
Depends if ive done my homework correct with Vauxhall part numbers or of ive made an expensive mistake!

It should be GSI tint but without the heating elements, i suppose its what they used in the warmer climates where defrosting on a winter morning just wasnt required.

Hopefully Saturday i will find out.

Straight to where Nova lives to get it out & fitted!

And fitted.

Loving its clean look, really happy with it & one of my favourite subtle mods.

After chipping my strut brace it dropped it the powdercoater opposite work & picked it up yesterday.
Not quite the same as before. Not quite as course a crackle finish & maybe slightley glossier, but hey better than a chip & only £20.00

Now it was the first drive on brand new Toyo T1R's in 195 45 15
The back end felt loose & floatey. I turned quickly left/right few times & was iff the back was a millisecond behind the front.
Considering I have nowt in the back I ran pressures quite low, 26psi rear 30psi front.

Speaking with Mathew (mathew172) he runs about 34psi front & maybe 30psi rear so thinking its maybe the sidewalls rolling around.

Anybody any experience with what I say it feels like & is it purely down to pressures? Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

As for the unresponsive back end feel, I use to get this on my old track car, almost like your getting oversteer?
Was also only on road, the only thing I found to stop it was to soften of my rear shocks for on road use.

Not really an update but.......................

Met up with Jeffrey & Niek yesterday to collect my genuine Valeo front indicators to get rid of the copy ones I have been using.
Mrs was watching the voice for 2hrs last night so I took the opportunity to go & fit them.

Old ones

Last weekend was RetroRides Gathering at Prescott Hillclimb
Took Nova along & would have been a cracking day but on the way down I scrolled through the Stack dash to check all was ok, & all want OK! :(
Battery voltage wasn't what it should be, I was reading about 12v, then 11.5v then down to about 11.00v
In the queue in I stalled it, pressed button to start & was flat as flat can be! Luckily a couple of guys in a VW pushed be & jumped it back to life, but no way it would start to get me home!
Plenty of offers of jump leads but during a wonder I saw a RAC van & iam a member so might aswell use them.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/P1030376_zpse74decde.jpg (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/NOVAMARTIN16V/media/P1030376_zpse74decde.jpg.html)

RAC man taking a look!
He jumped me from a jumper pack, then plugged me into his van for 30-45minutes to charge battery enough so I could drive home!

Tuesday evening was to try to see what the problem was.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/096_zps3de54036.jpg (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/NOVAMARTIN16V/media/096_zps3de54036.jpg.html)

Battery warning light not working so the charge circuit is being broken causing alternator not to charge
Bulb out & tested on a meter - all ok

Into fuse box, I was going to take my TomTom with me, plugged to fag lighter & couldn't get it to light up so took it out & thought no more about it.
Checked fuse for fag lighter - all ok
Pushed it back in - Battery warning light comes back on!!

Took it apart

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/NOVAMARTIN16V/099_zpsce385497.jpg (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/NOVAMARTIN16V/media/099_zpsce385497.jpg.html)

Not sure if you can see but one of the fuse holder legs has come dislodged from holder & when you push fuse in the connector is just pushing into the fuse box instead of onto the fuse.
Clipped it back into its holder - fuse back in

Exactly. Modern cars are great to drive daily but when they go wrong a simple fault can immobilise the vehicle and there is no way around it. They are not easy to diagnose or fix for the average DIY mechanic so results in a trip to the dealer at over £100 usually. Sometimes new isnt always best.
