Well as it's non metallic you should find it easy enough, i used a few coats of alloy primer, then some filler primer to take the dents/scratches out, then a final prime and rub back before applying about 2 thin top coats, let dry for 12hrs, then put on another 2 and left for 24hrs (but i forgot to leave the rocker cover as long) must have only been 12-15 hrs, and the lacquer blew/washed the metallic's in the paint, what a bell end i felt after all that effort.
Heres some pics

Didn't take any of the fook up on the rocker, i also decided it was not quite the color i was after once i had it next to the shell.
Scott
That looks good scott, just the finish im after. The rocker cover has been polished in the past, can get this redone to a very high standard for £30.

I was really happy with how well it came out for spray cans, but it was the lacquering part that i let my self down on it, i got it all done the same as the bumpers in the end though.
Scott
Right.... Me and my dad are now back on level terms :) So rocker cover is going to my polishers and getting tomoz, as well as the Mantzel to have the lettering polished too :) Then will be getting gloss blacked.
Also ordered my new gaskets and ordering my cambelt kit and water pump tomoz :)
Good stuff, should go well :)
What the speed of the car or my work tomoz? lol
Scott you shouldnt leave itu any where near that long between coats.
As the flash off time (drying time) is only something like 20-30mins this is when they start to lose adhesion.
Prep work isnt hard tho, just take ya time Jay, if your not sure on anything just ask.
Thanks for the tip benn :)

Oh i was told that i needed to leave the top coat 12-24hrs before applying the laqure?
Scott
May sound funny but the small bits of spraying ive done, the halfords laqure cans have always said 12-24 hrs before application
Bits got dropped off today at my polishers :)
Also got my gasket set, cambelt kit and water pump today :)

Well, i'll change that. Proper paint lacquar shouldnt be put over base coat after about 8hours.
Rattle can might be different, but i've never had a prob working on the same drying/flash off times.

Nice work Jay, nice to see work being done instead of just being ignored and banging the replacemnet engine straight in!
How long before its up and running?
Got alot of work done today :)
First off when i was sanding down the fecking bonnet stay was in the way, so threw it and fitted my bonnet struts. Then finished off the offside chassis leg. Whilst Olly was making up the new plate for the other side i decided to get my old rack out. Whilst it was out gave it a clean around the mounts etc and started to assemble my new quickrack. Fitted the new tca's and gaitors and then put it in the pile of things to be fitted!
Whilst Olly was welding i fitted my corsa stalks and omp steering wheel, got rid of the bus looking gsi one! Then after the welding was done we started to filler some of the holes, and made the bay a bit smoother. Got one side in paint for tonight. Also fitted my new water pump and cambelt kit.
Pictures are uploading now... (30+!)
Jay.

Good work there. Are you painting the whole bay then or just the turrets and firewall? Also you had any insurance quotes for when the 16v is in?

bay looks excellent pal, great job
Looks like a top job, isnt the new colour different though? Looks more blue, your cars more of a greeny blue?
Was just thinking that, the match does look a bit different but you've made that engine bay look 100 times better. :thumb:
Firstly today i got the rack painted up, then started to apply more filler the the bulkhead. We then finished off the nearside chassis leg and got that into paint. Got some seam sealer on the inner arches from the welding. Found out that my brakes are actually Cav Turbo's not V6 which im chuffed about. Sprayed my wiper motor base black as it was minging! Then started to reassemble all the parts ready for the engine to be put in place. Went straight in with no problems..... But then Olly dislocated his leg again! So progress stopped there! I then got the shafts, tca's, balljoints and brace done. Then got the wheels back on and shut the bonnet for the night.
Its been a long day today 9 hours of flatout work and only stopped for a kfc, just hope olly is alright bless him!
Pics uploading now got 41 today.

nice work jay coming along fast looking very nice.
Fair play, quick turnaround. Should go well with the 16 16v.
Did you cut out the rot and then weld in plates?
Done similar with my Nova back in feb before I put the engine in, but cut the seams back to get rid of rust and then stitch welded seams.

I will be at PV indeed mate, you?
This evening i dug my new spare wheel out of the shed today, being et40 and 6J wide i didn't think i would have any issues, but thought I'd just check to be safe. All was well and took a few pics. I then put my attention to the bay! After putting the engine in a refilling everything we were going to make a bit of mess! So today saw me just generally cleaning it up. Few inside shots too, and I'm happy that can now go into the almighty fifth!
Oh and for anyone who was asking about the quickrack/300mm steering wheel..... I love it!!!! Bitch to park but who cares feels much better to drive when putting it to the limit.
Ill let the pics do the talking. Jay :D
