I was told today about putting this gearbox onto the 20seh engine. And just wondered if anyone had any info on mating these two?
Cheers
Andrew
ive just done it mine went straight on with the seh flywheel and lutch just needed to cut a little lug off the block for the linkage
Eh? /\
It doesn't go straight on as the f13 input shaft on the box doesn't fit the SEH clutch splines.
You have to mess with fitting different flys/clutchs to get them to fit together.
when we done it this way we used the 2ltr flywheel/clutch and the f13 clutch plate, the clutch cover skimed the inside of the gearbox so literaly used a few washers to space the engine away from the gear box about 5mm for clearance lol. it did work rather well tho. boxes didnt last long at all and we was in stitched when my mate realised he fitted a 4speed at 1 point lmfao
boxes didnt last long at all
Thats because the F13 is designed for 130lbft of torque, so putting it on an SEH (which is 133lbft), gear munching will ensue lol
Go for an F15. They fit the Nova shafts and should take the abuse.

I was just about to ask that. I want to tune the engine anyway. Should see around 160bhp hopefully. Would the f15 from a corsa gsi take the power?
nope need a big block to be honest. i wouldnt even bother with a small block gearbox tbh. just more hassle than there worth especialy if you blow one to bits just after the conversion lol. best bet is to go for a big block box to start with, especialy if you want to tune the engine. otherwise use a f15 gently , and save up for the big block stuff..
and jack, the f numbers actualy meed sustained torque in NM.
so will be
f10 -100nm
f13 -130nm
f15 -150nm
f16 -160nm
f18 -180nm
f20 -200nm
f28 -280nm
(all sustained torque ratings, i.e will take more is very short bursts)
CKs right. If you want it in and running, fit the f15, if you wanna tune it and use it as a 2.0 Nova should, you're gonna need an F16 for standard or an F20 to make it bullet proof even when tuned. Cant see 160BHP breaking an F20 unless you're dogging the living f uck out of it.

I can't see a 2.0 8v causing an F13 or 15 much bother tbh.
craig, i reckon its not worth it at all tbh. my mates used a 2.0 8v mounted to the standard f13, in the month or two he drove it round, he ripped the cross member clean off on one side lol (it wasnt rotten at all aswell) and think it was 5 or 6 gearbox's he went through nc the 4speed he didnt realise he fitted lol.
Its gonna be border line with a Standard SEH on an F13 and then tuning the SEH is gonna be too much for it and possibly the F15 to handle unless you drive it very very sensably.
so will be
f10 -100nm
f13 -130nm
f15 -150nm
f16 -160nm
f18 -180nm
f20 -200nm
f28 -280nm
(all sustained torque ratings, i.e will take more is very short bursts) Ignore those TBH.
They mean fook all seeing as f10s and f13s have identical internals.
F13s are fine on 1.6 8v turbo engines (160/170 lb/ft?)
So a 2L 8v will be no problem at all
how many times do i have to say that i know they wont be any good. isnt it saying something going through 4 or 5 boxes in less than 2 months?
and that is exactly what the F** means...
Why do the exact same boxes last fine on turbo'd 1.6s which produce more torque, and would put more strain on the box than a 130lb/ft Na engine...?

My point.. Unless you want to lay out on shafts & new CV's etc its a method to get a big block in with less outlay. I wouldnt put an Xe on an F13, but an 8v yes. If you already have big block shafts, fair enough.

All fair points. I think i may stick with the big block stuff and save up. Want to use it as a track car and hopefully will be tuned. After summer wont be able to afford the outlay of several gearboxes lmao

In that case, you'd definitely break an F13. The 133lbft of the SEH = 180NM of torque!
I thought the GTE/GSi came with an F13? Or did they use an F15?

cant see how an extra 3lbft can w**k an f13 that bad tbh. my mate has had his in for ages now with no pros:D

thinking along the line of adams thort, doesnt that red corsa from jamsport run an f13 box? thats a x16xe with 190bhp an so many torques(cant remember how much)
im hoping an f13 will take that much grunt from my new engine(emphasise on hope)lol

lol this posts great, outright brawlage, it was back and forth, back and forth, then razorjack delivered a knockout blow lol

oh FFS
the F number is alleged to be the sustained torque in NM the boxes can take. BUT as said the F10 and F13 boxes have the same internals so where the fook does an extra 30NM rating come from?
Also in the states they use the F23 on their 300bhp/300NM+ engines and the gearbox is the least of their worries.
The F number seems to merely be a number for ID'ing FWD gearboxes (RWD stuff uses things like the R40 etc).
Plus you could have a seriously worn out F20 that dies on a 1.0L engine or a minty awesome F13 that lives on for ages on a LET.

F20 no.2 is dieing on my Cav GSi ;).
If you want your track car to run with not worries of breaking, fit an F16 or F20. It'll be generally stronger.
Jack, GTE and GSi Novas did have an F13, the GSi Corsas (16v) had an F15 fitted and iirc the Corsa 1.4 Sports and SRI (16v) had an F14.

F14's dont exist.... well not in GM gearboxes anyway
So whats in a Corsa Sport?
Jack, GTE and GSi Novas did have an F13
1.6 is 134Nm, so that would make sense I guess.
Corsa 1.4 Sports and SRI (16v) had an F14.
Driven by Tom Cruise? lol
Stupot's signature linkage says Corsa 1.4's used F13s.

late corsa with x14xe were fitted with f15's..

A lad on MIG ran an F13 with a 2.0 SEH in a Nova. he reported no issues.

indeedy.... JACK pay attention. The F number is nearly the torque rating, but generally its worth ignoring!!!!!! even the F15 shares nearly all the same components as the F13/F10 box bar the FD pinon being part of the output shaft...... so how the hell is that box more suited to 50NM of torque more than the F10 ;)
Iam just in the middle of rebuilding my 2ltr 8v just nearly ready to get box i was thinking of useing f15 was told i could use this paired with 17d clutch and fly wheel of the old vaxhall eingine and use a set of nova gsi shafts with chris astley mount would this make mine fit or is thair any complacations and was told it would rip the feck out of my chassie is this true ive already welded few seems round the front panel and cross member plus cross member is in newish condition not long in wen i bought my nova plus welded along the chassie legs were thay meet the splasgaurds and round the mounts for a bit of extra strength? :thumb:
