Should a GTE engine have a tensioner?!?

We took the head off my brother's GTE and it didn't have a tensioner. But at the motor factors, they list it as having a tensioner!!!

Can anyone help?

Did you list the engine number as opposed to the Car? IIRC the late C16SE's had a tensioner fitted but early variations such as yours didnt.

your rite dod i have a c16se and it has a tensioner, the later 1s dont..

Both! The GTE's (late I guess) had a tensioner, whereas earlier ones didnt.

Supposedly the late engines have a squared top on the belt cover, but I've seen many variations in the actual blocks aswell.

I had a GSi (E16) & a GTE E16 & they looked nothing alike, block castings totally different etc.

And on the E16se is a water pump that make the tensioner ;)

Late e16se's did
