    Default !!!!!!!!!!!! Urgent Help need!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it possible to do the piston rings from under the car (though the sump)?????

Cause i've just done headgasket, valve steam oil seals, cam, lifters, followers and big end bearing shells and not really want to remove the head again! Its still blowing out blue smoke when booted so i must of damaged piston rings when No3 bearing shell snapped.

did you allow the engine to be run in before booting it?

if not it may still smoke/damage new parts...

or is that an urban myth???

    :?

I don't think you have to run seals and gaskets in first.
But i've just put the engine back in at it was a pain in the arse to do, i ended up being able to select 6 gears out of a 4 speed box some how.

i've just done headgasket, valve steam oil seals, cam, lifters, followers and big end bearing shells and not really want to remove the head again!

I also phoned Vauxhall to get price on piston rings and they said they were no longer available and i had to call Clifford Cox (reading)to get them , but i thought the nova shared its engine with the mk1 corsa so they must do them really.

reringing a 1.2 is dead easy, but it is a head off/sump off job. might sound daft, but have you cleaned out the breather filter assy, these can sludge up after a lot of use, causing oil leaks, and high crankcase pressure leading to oil blowing out of the exhaust.

rings are available from loads of places, hunt through the yellow pages.

cheers mowgli, i found out that the piston rings can be done from the sump and i'm losing compression so its defferently piston rings.

I got a price and for a set it was ?75 at trade discount.

I know the sump has to come off cause you got to unbolt pistons it was more if i had to take head of but my old boss said no you don't.

So just a case of saving up to buy the rings!

No i haven't cleaned out the breather but it works good cause i can feel air coming out when the engine is running.
