Needed to strip the dreaded bonnet that has previously had issues with paint reacting with previous layers.
So got a supply of these paint removing discs for the grinder and set about trying to remove the layers. Thinking this would take about half an hour I was somewhat optimistic !!
The layers were like rings on a tree, I think there must be about 10-12 layers on this bonnet - the swage lines were somewhat blurred due to the layers but I started stripping away....
This bit of the bonnet above the headlight took about 20 minutes ! You can see the layers as well here ...
So I kept going, taking it in sections and keeping the discs moving to not overheat the panel...
I used up two stripping discs...
You can see the micro blisters within the paint here....
After 2 hours we had got this far....
And after a final push it was done - phew!
It then got a couple of coats of zinc primer and was reattached ready for the bodyshop next week.
3.5 hours in total. Mmmmm . At least it weighs about 3kg lighter now!!
