    Default Slimline fan size

    Looking to buy a slimline fan to free up some bay space. What size fan should be used on a standard rad (1.2)?

    Ok. In which case, how do you measure the rad in order to determine the size of a fan? Is it a diagonal measurement?

    You measure the rad, if a fan is 7inch or 9inch you just need to get one that fits. So if you measure the rad from top to bottom you know the size you want.

    BTW, while your there change for a 1.6 rad and then you can get the right size fan and you will never need to change it.

    just go off the height of the rad..
    remembering:-
    12" = 300mm
    10" = 250.5mm etc etc

    I have conidered changing the rad to a 1.6 one as there seems to be very few available 1.2 rads on ebay etc. Would the 1.6 rad fill up the front end fully? Need to keep some space around the rad empty (as it currently is) for the oil cooler.

    It just goes the complete height from the slam to xmember.

    Should still have plenty of room for other stuff back there.

    I wouldn't fancy running a let with a 1.2 rad, at least a 1.6 IMO

    I had a 1.2 rad on my xe and it got hot very quickly.

    At first was gonna keep the 1.2 rad as I thought it was in good condition but after removing the engine and all bits the rad as probably on the brink of collapsing. So far I have found MK3 Cav rad's cheaper than 1.2 rads and a few 1.6 items for less too so I'll be going for that. Sod paying more and getting less.
