IIRC max fine for no insurance is £1000. If your car cost £50 and you dont mind spending a couple of hundred to retake your test, blah blah, then its a lot cheaper than some insurance!

I guess the thinking is if you're with mum/dad/whoever you're less likely to do something stupid, or if you get stuck you have someone else who can jerk the wheel (oo-er) to avoid an accident or give you advice.

Re: the driving with no insurance thing...yeah i can see why people do it, as the fines are sweet fa. Less than a years insurance. surely someone must realise this is why people do it??!!
I think the max fine for no insurance is £1000? Cool, you could get nabbed twice and it would still be cheaper

As for the limited power thing, I always thought this was almost the case with prices, i.e. the price to insure something over, say, 75bhp was too expensive so it would put people off doing it. Meh, when an 899cc Fiat is £2k to insure you may as well spend another grand and get a 2.0 turbo whatever

for me to get insured on my 1 litre nova, it would cost me £2,800 TPFT with a sum of £600 premium .... hence why im not driving becuase i cant afford it im doin all my touch ups on the car now, and then when im older and better off for money im going to get insured and have a half decent nova rather than some crappy bog standard 1 litre....

    But good invistigation there Jack.

    That really is stupid!

i got quoted for my nova, TPF&T, all mods declared, 1000cc in a medium risk postcode, £4600!

We did exactly the same for my dad, TPF&T, all mods, £228

I can seriously see why young drivbers like me do "fronting", yes it is illegal, but the chances of getting found out are medium, and also the fine is probabley less than the insurance!
