Well I blunted my holesaw so progress halted on the cage triangulation - and nowhere local sells a 38mm Bosch holesaw, grr!
So I did a mock engine fitting, and glad I did as it was an utter ballache. Block and box in, finally, after much agro:

But it just didn't go together very nicely, had to force the bracket for the block and it sat like this on the mount:

Because the solid mount's hole is kinda between the original 2 holes, I'm going to modify the bracket so it sits a bit lower:

Hmm sitting a bit straighter now, but going to file the mount some more. I'll weld up the unused holes and make sure it's nice and strong when I'm happy with it:
