    Default MOT time

    1st of all im not too sure where to post this here or mechanical admin please re-locate if needed .

    ok ladies and gents my novas for its MOT on the 24th and i was wondering what all to go over on the car , any hints and tips for me ? this is the first time i will have took a car to a test center so any info would be greatly appreacheated , also could anyone point me in the right direction as to ajust my handbrake ive read in the haynes manual that you go to the back beam but was wondering is it an all day job or a 5 min job thanks for all the help lads .     In all honesty fella, just run through the lights and check your usual rust places, just bung it in and see what comes out the other side, every testers opinion is different, and vastly different from yours, so bung it in.

    cheers saloony , ive a bit of rust on my chassis leg il take a pick so you guys can tell me if its serious or nothing to worry about .

    aslong as the rust isnt soft and can cause a hole you should be fine

    looks fairly solid from what i can make of the pics mate. as long as none of the rust feels weak enough to push through you should be fine

    Poke at any rust you find, if it goes through, its a fail.

    All depends on your MOT tester mate. The one that my dad uses is a right moany old geeza.

    Some parts of my dads underside on his Cav have started to corrode bit like yours has and he had a right moan about it and said he'd just let it pass.

    when I inspected it all the metal was firm no holes and wasnt flaking or poking through.

    So its all down to the mood of the guy on the day, not to put you off I hope but dont worry even the most conifdent of owners sometimes get a surprise.

    Paint over it with hammerite so it doesn't look so crusty.
