digi dash again

can any one help please i need to know how to cut and shut my mk1 dash bout please help

i havent done this but my mate did and what he did was take out the dash then put the clocks on the steering coloum where the would sit then he tried to put his dash back in and marked out which bitsd he needed to trim till he got them in. but he`s a butcher and it looked shit!
