Default Project 1300 Track toy - WIP

    Hello everyone, I'm back!

Well it's been a while since I posted anything on here and even longer since I've actually done anything with Nova but the time has come for me to pull my thumb out of my **** and get going.

The plan is to build me a 1300 SR track toy that I can have some fun with. I know it won't have breath taking speed but that doesn't mean it won't be fun. Please don't tell me to fit a bigger engine, I know it will be faster but I have my reasons for sticking with the 1300 and these will become clear in due course.

So here is how the car stands at the moment:

1300 SR bottom end, bored out to 1330 (ish)
1200 Head with some DIY porting
    AST2 Kent Cam
    Weber 32/34 Carb
    Janspeed 4-1 Manifold
    Mongoose Stainles Steel Exhaust system
F13CR gearbox with the standard FD
    GSi Suspension (standard)
    Polly Bushes
    GTE Calipers
    Ferrodo Pads
Drilled & Grooved Disks (nothing fancy but they do the job)
    Quick Steering Rack

These are the parts I have already bought and will be fitting this week:
    Weber DCOE 40s
    K&N filters
    Facet Fuel pump
    Filter king regulator
    ARP Bolts
High power ignition coil (still not sure about fitting this, opinions appreciated)
    OMEX limiter with shift light
    and a 4.18 FD

As far as the handeling goes, I will be stitch welding the engine bay while the engine is out and I will be looking for some decent suspension (probably Spax or Koni) once the engine is sorted. Strut braces will be fitted front & rear and choice of tyres currently stands with Yoko A048Rs.

Anyway, work will be starting tomorrow so I will hopefully have some progress pictures for you by Tuesday.

    Sounds nice.

Why not get a 1400 bottom end tho? New rod bolts/shells etc.
So you have more cc to begin with.

Edit-Sorry, thought that was future plans, not as it stands currently,Lol.

What chokes/jets will you be running on your 40s?

I didn't say fit a new engine, i saw:- 1300 SR bottom end, bored out to 1330 (ish)

And thought that was future plans, so i suggested starting with a 1400 bottom end.
But then realised it said current spec.

I really don't know about chokes and jets yet. The carbs I bought came off a 1300 Nova rally car so I'm guessing they are somewhere near the mark anyway. I'll get it all setup on a rolling road once the engine is back in.

Good stuff, carbs should at least run if they came off a similar engine

What a crap start to the week. I went to start work on the car on Monday as planned only to find that my Dad had set the alarm last time he moved it, which was about three weeks ago. The car needed to be moved to get in the garage and I had a flat battery and to really top it all off, I had fogotten about the fact that I had no steering wheel! All in all, I was going to have a bit of challenge getting the Nova in the garage.

Anyway, I got the battery on charge on monday, engine fired today, and managed to get the steering wheel fitted about an hour ago. No where near as productive I'd hoped but heres's a picture as promised.

It's probably a good thing that I'm planning on taking the dash out because it looks filthy under that flash.

Next update should have some more interesting pics for you, promise.

Nice to see people doing smaller engines though.

    At last! Progress!

It's been a busy week so far so I have't had much time to work on the car in the evenings and I'm travelling to Birmingham tomorrow afternoon and not coming home until Friday. So the challenge for today was to get as much work done on the car as possible, making make sure I get it back to a state where I can get the car out of the garage so my dad can work on his while I'm away.

    Lets so how I did.

Bonnet off, most ancillaries disconnected, this is how things were this morning

Front up on axle stands, tie bars & drive shafts off and chains securely attached.

Heres my engine bay, it's a bit grubby following a blown headgasket but generally it's all quite solid.

Wheels & tie bars back on, I now have me a rolling chassis (should keep my dad happy anyway).

And heres my little baby. I should be starting work on it next week when I get back from Birmingham

All in all I'm quite pleased with my self. I know it's not a massive step but with the engine out at least I'm committed to the project.

    Gethin's Final Thought
When lowering engine and gearbox, it's usually a good idea to disconnect the speedo cable first.
