    Default Bad fuel smell

Just wondered if anyone could help I am getting a very strong smell of fuel from the car I?ve checked all the fuel lines and there are no leaks drips ect everything seems dry. When I jack the car up in the garage a few moments later it?s like I have spilt some on the floor the smell is very strong any ideas

Is the tank wet? Got a hole in it and leaking when jacked up? Its hard to say really as there's multiple places it could leak. May be a case of just following th fuel lines from the filler right though to the carb. Also check the breather in tbe filler neck, they like to dissolve

If it’s the braided type breather hose, these can visually look fine but like Millworm said the rubber inside the braid likes to break down and disappear which can’t be seen

Had a few instances of this in the past with various Vauxhall's. Tends to be a fabric braided hose, tank breather, fuel lines underside of hose on fuel rail which are hidden around the inlet manifold (depending on what engine you have). Use some soapy water spray on to the fuel hoses while running, it'll help you see if there's any air being being sucked or blown.

It’s not only when the car is running I can rock the car back and forth and a few seconds later there will be a strong smell of fuel in the garage but I can’t see any leaks or anything it’s like once the fuel has settled the smell goes away but if I shake the car the smell comes strong again. I’ll check that braided hose out
    cheers lads

The dodgy breather goes through a hole in the chassis to the filler neck so may not be an obvious leak.

Does it do it at certain levels of fuel? My GSi one would do it on a full tank to 3/4, but that was a tank failing.

My filler neck rotted away here and I had to get a longer joining hose to solve it
