Default Are 14xe and 16xe alloy sumps the same size.

Are x14xe and x16xe sumps the same size?

I suppose the easiest way to check would be to see if both engines require the same amount of oil. However i dont have a haynes handy.

could someone please let me know.

    thanks.

You would think that but the z18xe and z16xe have different size sumps as does the 1.3 and 1.6 8v sumps. im just not sure where the change over is if the 1.4s are different.

I have a haynes, just not handy.

8v for me too but the xe sumps are way better.

16V alloy one only has one gasket and the windage tray is integral to the sump. the gasket is better and is fully baffeled as standard. It also doesnt rust. The only good thing about the steel one is the you can gain acces to the back of the fly wheel without taking of the sump, which is handy for marking TDC/BTDC ect and locking the engine to stop it turning.

Does the alloy 16v fit the 8v engine? Do you just lose access to clutch cover plate?

yes but 1800 16v ones dont fit.Im still trying to work out if the 14xe fits a 16se. you dont loose access to the clutch just the back of the flywheel. you also need the right pick up pipe for the sump.
