C20ET donor Equal Length Driveshafts onto Nova

Hi,

Have managed to source a complete equal length drive shaft set up (including the equal length bracket), and have the 2.0 hubs to match. I have been told, but not had fully explained to me how it is, that I can utilise the donor shafts.

The gentleman that sold me the equal length set up mentioned something about using a slitting disc in a grinder and cutting a new groove for the circlip to sit in, and that this is effectively how you make them shorter.

Makes sense, though what of the excess length of shaft protruding from either side that will surely be left? Sounds a bit debaucherous to me!

Please can someone shed some light on this procedure?

Heard/seen it done on a Corsa but not a Nova, thought our track was too small for that 'trick'.

Iains right, there isnt enough room for that idea.

You need to get a new shaft from somebody like david dixon. You use both inner and outer cv off the shaft you have, along with the dummy part that goes into the box and bolts to the block.

You have confirmed my suspicion - new equal length shafts it is. I'm as happy buying new from LMF (as was my original plan), and using using the inner nearside CV and outer CVs from the donor shafts - I'm pretty certain that the offside inner CV joint cannot be used.

I will also have a look at your build/progress thread for some pictures to get a better idea of things.

The offside inner cv has a female end which fits onto the dummy shaft, this will be needed for your new o/s equal length shaft from lmf along with the outer joint.

The nearside shaft as you said uses the inner and outer off the old shaft for your new n/s one.

Rang LMF several times recently and they don't have them in stock, so I'd give them a call before placing the order online.
