    Then this happened

The clutch failed and took with it the gearbox housing

It also damaged the radiator and took out a water pipe, this is not an issue and we have replacements.

    However!

    This might be an issue

the flywheel got some real heat by the looks of the clutch friction plate and there is distortion around 3 of the stud holes, quite hard to see on the photos but is about 1.5mm in towards the centre of the flywheel.

Looks a good car mate replacement gearboxes can be picked up for £25 or so, so that shouldnt be too big an issue.

Id suggest taking the flywheel to an engineering firm to see if they can skim the face up. If not then another flywheel will be required.

Just ask questions on here if you get stuck, plenty of friendly knowledgeable folk

Thank you rich, I had a look at a few different forums before settling on this one, I liked It's vibe , seemed a good bunch I just hope that you guys enjoy the nova pics and that we can put on a good show and report back here with it. First stage is in April

Well I will show you our gearbox situation, hopefully without the accidental massive pictures like the ones above

The one on the right is the one that came off and had to take the stresses of the failure and so is being treated as broken. Also the floating shaft that the clutch friction plate sits on doesn't float, but does jiggle side to side more than the new one does.
