iain, if you can identify them, then notify them of it & give them opportunity to put it right. if that fails, go thru the legal channels, then if that fails, get TJ to cut their gas off

Homebase car park he was kind enough to show me CCTV and also getting a reg tomorrow.

ok, go ask your insurance first to see if they can do this without getting the police involved, and if not, just get the rozzers involved.

Would prefer cops instead of insurance, don't want to risk any premium problems...?

Amazingly. .. this afternoon I was talking with a friend of the wife who is going thru the same thing. The big problem is getting the info and using it to get it sorted. The rozzers will only be interested in prosecution and not in getting it fixed. She has had to fill in some forms and send several forms of id so they can make a legal request for the other car owners details.
