I have always thought about buying a welder but I would probably end up making a mess of whatever it is I'm welding. One thing I have always been told by professional welders though is avoid gasless!

If you have an indoor or really sheltered place to weld, then get gas, it will be better.

Definitely get a gas one, if you didn't know already a MIG welder, and the more powerful you get the more thickness you can weld. While most metal on a nova isn't too thick, you may well end up welding some of the thicker stuff, so having a versatile welder is a good bet. I bought a Clarke Mig 135 from Machine Mart a few years back, and have done plenty of welding on my Nova with it.

The mask that comes with it will no doubt be utterly hopeless. I highly recommend you get a proper autodimming helmet, they aren't that expensive any more and make welding so much easier.
