to be honest i needed to weld a few brackets of about 5mm thickness and went and got some flux gassless wire from halfords, did the job very well! nice penetration and no bird crappy look.

i have to add though i have used flux wire before and it was absolute ****e!

I have a miller welder, bought it on offer about 8 years ago, was about £325 iirc but like the old saying goes, you only get what you pay for. With your temper marris you will have axed a Clarke welder after 10 mins

gas all the way, I got a cheep gasless off the 'bay for £50 with a load of wire, tbh it started out awfully, but as i got used to it it can be quite good at the odd job, more useful outside on really windy days, but in the end if you want a good end result get a gas one, altho I do think if you master gasless then when you swap to work with gas, the results will be 10x better than before.
