the civil war in libya has had a huge effect on us.... the oil they produce is 'sweet' and is what makes petrol really well & cheaply.. once its back on stream, the world fuel price might just go down.....i hope

yes. it is right. any form of trouble in the supply of oil causes the spot price to go up as people have been dealing & speculating in the oil futures markets, and a war like this sends the global price per barrel thru the roof....

So how long for it to return to normal??
I'd bet my last quid it wont go down much, most petrol/diesel customers dont know where its from or whats involved and thus the government can still charge what they want.

In my opinion, we've sorted that **** out and the oil company's will have the government in their pockets so now they have all the oil they need for the next however many years they can control the prices.

    Or something like that.

the problem is that 80 odd % is tax, so if the wholesale price goes up by 1p/l, the retail after tax goes up 5p...
