Default Upol or halfrauds bumper paint?

    Hi all...

Looking to tidy up the nova, and wanting to spray the standard mk2 bumpers with bumper paint...

Looking into the UPOL dark grey (as i want to be slightly different) but just wondering what you have to do to prep.....

Is it just clean the bumpers and apply the paint, or do i have to plastic primer the bumpers also?

I dont want to lose the texture of the bumpers so how do i key the surface?

And is the halfords bumper paint any good??

I want to paint the front and rear bumper, side strips, handles and mirrors... so a fair bit, and want it all looking mint.

just key them up with p800 wet, the paint applys with the same texture anyway so you wont lose it. Can apply straight on top its up to you if you use plastic primer i never do personally. Go for the u-pol its **** hot never tried halfords one though

just prep with soapy water with the p800 or use scotch brite, you will be best of picking up some panel wipe/degreaser and clean them thoroughly as they have probly been coated in black 2 black over the years and that stuff is a nightmare for silicone.

Many many moons ago I painted the MK1 bumpers with halfords dark grey bumper paint. I did use platic primers

    - light rub down of bumper
    - cleaned with prepaint
    - plastic primer
    - flat with 800 wet n dry
    - clean with prepaint
    - bumper paint

This worked well, never chipped and was pretty durable considering it probably only cost me about £15 back then.
