I can see what you mean after looking at the pictures again, but it took you telling me it was there to see it, and I think it looks a lot nicer smooth/painted. Depends how much it would bug you having the recess between the lights I guess Maybe a smoothed and painted colour coded plastic piece is the way forward?

Black smooth, but I'd add some black vinyl on the lower part of the bootlid in line with the tops of the light clusters.
