I think the biggest thing people have to realise is there's about half a dozen different specs and powers on Impreza's that are often badged the same, ranging from 230 brake to 300.

As above! There's some very decent bulbs out there these days. PIAA do a nice range as well. Or a bit cheaper, Halfords Super Brilliance and Extreme Brilliance are worth a look on bogof.
