cavalier turbo's

i was just wondering if anyone from here has had one or know's someone that own's one? the reason being is because where i come from (sunny buckinghamshire) there are always the same old cars going around and people tend to copy eachother ie one person has a nova....the there's three going about....another person gets an rs turbo then there is 2 or three floating about. now as far as i can remember there hasnt been any cavalier turbo's atall in my town so i would like to buy one. but before i buy one i just wanna know what people think of them and common problems. any help would be great. thanks

i think there nice,i heard the brakes arnt good because its the size of a barge but they look nice,get 1 lower it 70mm and your away lol

yea i love them nice and low. would like a silver one, raised bonnet, black wheels and just keep it realy clean and tidy. hoping to get one next year now as xmas is coming fast and havent hought about what to get the missus yet.

my brother is running a sri but with gsi bumpers and 6 spoke alloys,its in that dark green colour, looks top :)

The transfer box in the 4x4 system is a weak point.

the engine is far better off in a nova or mk2 astra :)

if you lower them, you have camber problems, its a let, so get a few AFM and Crank sensors lol

why doesent people fit better transfer boxes and give some of the jap cars a run for their money it would piss them of because of it being a vauxhall cavalier

Because its less powerful than most jap 4wds for a start :p

tbh, if a cavalier overtook me, I wouldn't think "oh no, a cav over took me, now I am p!ssed off", I'd think "look at that gibbon in his sh!t car" lol lol lol

cough* cavs are far from **** cars.

cheap to buy, huge availability of cheap parts, easy to look after and work on.

they handle very well and for an old car pretty quick. thus why im selling my nova to buy one:thumb:

iv not long bought a cav turbo and yes the 4x4 aint working but hey ho ill get over it :( the car itself is good its runnin about 270 horse but expensive insurance and 18 mpg takes the piss a bit BUT again i shall get over it :thumb:

cav turbos are lovely cars imo, fairly pricey for a decent one nowdays tho

Thats true, but now with the Cav turbo your entering into what is now an exclusive club. Cos idiots out there keep breaking them or drive them like ****holes. Which is a shame cos they can be a rewarding car to drive.

The transfer boxes can be upgraded for quaife units, but are bloody expensive. So you could covert to FWD and slap in an LSD. Or one mush i saw welded up the tranfer unit, never saw how he got on with that.

I thought it was FWD only until you start losing traction/certain load levels/whatever, then it feeds 30% to the back.

The main problem with the 4x4 is people not looking after them properly... tyres need to be replaced as a set of 4 and also need to be rotated on a regular basis as the fronts wear quicker resulting in different rolling diameters which causes the transfer box to overheat and fail. Excessive lowering or lowering without correcting the camber has the same effect.

The power split is variable as the transfer box is a viscous coupling and iirc rear wheel drive disengages under braking. I've not owned one myself (only a 2wd GSi with a LET/F28 transplant) but know plenty of people who have or still do, all of them used as daily drives all year round.

You're probably looking at ?3k plus for a nice one, really good ones are nearer to ?4k and I know somebody who recently sold his for ?5.5k and that wasn't mint. There aren't many about as the vast majority have been broken for their engines so the good ones that are left are holding their money and more likely to increase in value than decrease as they're becoming sought after.
